The Phoenix King
Streams of sizzling fire tore across the sky, painting streaks of orange energy over the blue. The Avatars friends watched in awe. All except for one.
Youre still holding back, Zuko declared from his place near the front porch of his fathers summer home.
Katara glanced at him incredulously from her seat on the steps. What are you talking about? she demanded, gesturing to the last airbender. Aang did a jump, flipped in the air, and landed in a blaze of fire, seemingly proving her point. Aangs doing great. His form is perfect after all Ive seen you teach him.
His form is good, but the energy behind his attack is still too weak, Zuko pointed out calmly. Hes afraid of the fire that he should be controlling. If he isnt a complete master of his own fire, it will

The Old Masters
Sleep had avoided Katara for most of the night before she decided to give up on it. Her mind whirled with what Zuko had said to Aang what he had said to all of them.
Katara shivered despite the warm breeze rising out of the ocean below the balcony railing she was perched on. The sun would rise in only a little while to light the world, but it couldnt shine any guiding lights on Kataras lost mind.
She knew her father would never do such a thing like Ozai did to Zuko, and it was hard to imagine such cruelty from a father to his son. The men of the Southern Water Tribe were strong and fierce in battle, but to their families, they were immovable guardians willing to sacrifice anything for those they loved. Why would any man do something so morbid and cruel to his own flesh? Katara shivered again, a tear of sympathy sliding down her cheek.

A Moment to ReminisceIt was early morning. The golden rays of sunshine could just be seen behind the hilly horizon of the fire nation. The deep indigo remains of the night sky mixed slowly with the bright yellow sunlight forming a beautiful purple colour in the morning sky. A light breeze flew in gently from the east bringing with it the scent of the salty ocean. Today was the day. Zuko thought to himself. The war had been over for 6 years and the world was finally beginning to heal itself. Old ties between nations were reformed and a new era of peace and kindness had begun. The past and all its painful memories had been forgotten. Zuko remembered the day he had joined the Avatar and smiled. That was the day he decided to create his own destiny and become the man that his uncle always said he would. Though times were hard, he enjoyed the time he spent with the Avatar and his friends and was glad that today was the day they had decided to come to the Fire Nation to have their liA Moment to Reminisce6 years ago in Fan Fiction More Like This

It took far too long for Aangs likings for his vision to stop swimming. He felt dizzy. Was it the fall, the impact, or the tears that kept his vision from clearing?

Suki gave Sokka a quick kiss on the cheek as he rested in his bunk below deck. Ill be back, she whispered to the now conscious youth, giving his bandaged leg a last check before turning to leave.
Be careful, Suki! Sokka called weakly after her. Suki flashed him a comforting smile and disappeared up the stairs, leaving Sokka in Momos company.
When she emerged onto the deck, the sky was ablaze above her. Literally. The Comets unnatural red hue spread over the sky, accentuated by flying fireballs trailing ribbons of thick black smoke. Jeong-Jeong did his best to hold off the flaming boulders before they struck, but he couldnt block all of them. One particularly large fireball resisted his attempts to halt it and crashed into the water beside the vessel, nearly tipping it on its side. Suki was thrown across the ship, but Hakoda caught

Aang struggled to keep his eyes closed against the blinding light outside his eyelids. His limbs felt unnaturally light, and the Avatar realized suddenly that he no longer lay on the bed in his room.
Aang Wake up. I have to ask you something
Kataras voice made his eyes snap open. But instead of the waterbender before him, his little earthbender friend stood there, staring right at him, though she couldnt really see him. Mint green crystals surrounded them, jutting out of the cool grey rock, and Aang recognized it immediately: the crystal catacombs under Ba Sing Se, in the same cave where Katara and Zuko had been imprisoned.
Aang tried to ask Toph where Katara had gone, or even how theyd ended up in the crystal catacombs, but his voice failed him.
Toph moved her mouth to speak, but instead of her voice, Kataras voice was again
Whispered Lore - PrologueThe sun was beginning to set over Ba Sing Se. The trees had begun to drop their leaves and children were running around playing in the cool autumn air. Mothers were setting dinner on the table and fathers were out getting the children in. Grandparents sat watching the streets and young, learning Earthbenders played rockball. Almost everything in the world was right again. Currently, in a tea shop in the top tier of the Impenetrable City, the young heroes who had helped bring about the end of that insufferable war were having a quiet celebration, a toast to themselves for their sacrifices and their hard work. This party was a small and rare chance these days; a simple evening to get away from their now incredibly public lives. They were superstars, celebrities; it wasnt that they were shocked by the sudden shove into the limelight, but the people who knew their names and knew wha

Where All of This Started
The first morning rays of the sun were descending upon the city of Ba Sing Se. The banished prince of the Fire Nation woke up in the house that was situated in the lower ring of the earth kingdom's capital.
When Zuko walked out of his room, he found his uncle sitting by the table with a cup of cold tea. You havent drunk your tea. He stated with a raised brow, bringing the old man out of his thoughts.
Oh youre awake! Yes, its really a sad sight, isnt it? He answered, while peeking down at it before making a small smile. Ill heat it up once weve talked.
The young bender sat down next to him and looked at him worrying. Did you sleep? You look tired
I am tired but its not what I wanted to talk about. He hesitated for a moment and looked up from his tea to his nephew.

The formula I used to analyze the Kataang relationship is a simple formula: how does he treat her (and vise versa, though in Kataangs case I only studied it from one side), and how closely do the pair match, morally. This was easy to do for Kataang because of two things: they had constant contact, and they had the same goal. They were already allies and friends. It is easy to judge Aang based entirely on his own merits, entirely on his own actions and words, from moment to moment. Plus, Katara has the opportunity to understand Aangs background, to understand for herself why he is the way he is.
Studying Zutara is more difficult. Zuko and Katara seldom see each other, and the few times they do meet before The Western Air Temple, theyre mortal enemies with driving goals that directly conflict with each other (save world vs. capture Avatar). Katara had little opportunity to understand Zukos motivations and ba

"Weve gone through so much: seen so many new places and things, met so many people, learned things we never could have imagined, and hurt like we never thought we could hurt. And weve all changed so much, too, so much in fact, that we can barely recognize ourselves. Its been hard and long, and at times, more than exhausting, but I know I speak for all of us when I say that I wouldnt change a single thing. Out of our every victory, and our every failure, weve grown stronger, and weve become better, wiser people.
Even so, even after the fall of the Firelord, we had not yet achieved our final victory. The world was still divided, the nations, anxious. Our hardest, longest fight was still to come. This time, though, we had no idea what to expect: no maps to help us find our way, no masters to teach us the skills we would need, and no certain enemy.

It was over. It was finally, finally over.
Ozai had been defeated. Azula had gone insane. The Earth King had been restored to his throne and his city. Their friends and family from the eclipse invasion had been released from prison. A new Fire Lord had been crowned. Peace hovered on the horizon for all the people in every nation.
The Avatar had saved the world.
Aang walked outside the Jasmine Dragon, leaving his friends inside to discuss- or rather, complain about- Sokkas less-than-accurate portraying of their little group, and gazed up at the benevolent sunset.
He was content. He had done what he had been born to do- and now, he could look to the future with a hopeful heart.
A soft noise behind him alerted him of someones presence. He turned and saw Katara, as lovely in green as she was in blue, or red (or any color, in his opinion) emerging from the tea house with a shy

One of the greatest lies of today is how spontaneous romantic, couple-love is. People just fall in love and get married or get into adulterous relationships, and then fall out of love and break up or divorce. This is a horrible lie that destroys lives. The truth is, love is much like a living being. It needs to be fed and built up, nurtured and exercised, and it grows or dies accordingly. If a woman is mistreated or neglected by a man, her love for him will lessen or die (unless she's too badly broken to love herself anymore). If a man does not serve his loved one, hell take her for granted, and his love for her will die. Selfishness kills love. Love also depends on respect and admiration. A good, moral woman cannot love a spineless, amoral man because she cannot respect and admire him.
Using these two statements that love needs to be nurtured as well as exercised, and that lovers need to re
A Moment to Reminisce part 2Days had passed since Zuko had last spoken to Katara alone. Aang, and the rest of the gang had arrived three days after Katara. Appa had become sick on the way which is why they had arrived later than expected. The days that followed Aang and the rest of the gangs arrival were uneventful. They consisted mostly of formal meetings with various other representatives who were all fairly uninteresting. In the evening, most of the visitors were asked politely to stay in their rooms. Although the war had been over for a long time there were still many people who preferred life during the war and would do anything to return to the way things were. Katara and Zuko slowly were drawing an attraction towards one another. It wasnt something they planned nor was it something expected. It just happened. The day Zuko saved Kataras life was the day everything changed. In her heart she knew she felt something for Zuko. Deep inside, he knew it as well. And now, he had to make a decision. Would he tell Katara how he really felt, or would he just let her walk out of his life?
The day he was crowned as Fire Lord was the day everything would change-for better or for worse. It was the biggest news to hit the Fire Nation. However, it also brought sad news with it as Katara had to leave with her family later on that night. Just hearing about that made Zukos heart break.
She walked outside towards the gardens that night, waiting for him. He told her earlier he wanted to speak with her. She hoped he would ask her to stay. She turned her attention to the party and saw him standing there, talking with her father. Zuko really did loo

After flying all night, Katara signaled Appa to land in a remote spot far away from the defeated city of Ba Sing Se. Kuei was reluctant to dismount Appa, "Are you sure we shouldn't keep flying? The farther we can fly during the night, the less likely we'll be noticed walking around during the day." "No, I think it's best that we rest. Aang's almost waking up.", said Katara as she helped put Aang in Sokka's arms to be carried down. "A little help, Toph?", Sokka was looking over Appa's saddle wondering how to get down. "Gladly.", she said as she jumped off of Appa's back, landing on the ground with a loud THUD! The entire earth seemed to shake as a bender was once again reunited with her element. She bended up a pillar or earth with a flat top that would serve as a platform for the others to step on. After lowering them, she bended a rather lage tent that would serve as shelter for them all.

Dont Mind Me Im Just Another Canon!Zutarian.
This is actually a little mini-essay in response to a mini-rant by Xerxes93 entitled About Avatar and Shipping That I found truly hilarious on top of being a typical complaint about us infamous and apparently scary Canon!Zutarians.
I never even thought of myself as a canon Zutarian until several weeks ago, when I started showing the signs and symptoms Or at least started noticing them in a new light of realization But symptoms like wanting my ship to be canon, and believing it to be possible!! I really am a lost cause when it comes to that.
Odd thing is, I didnt start out as a Canon!Zutara shipper Until I actually saw that Zutara could be supported in the show! So I guess maybe thats the key to this whole thing; you dont start out that way, you gotta develop it. The more you see, the more you believe.
Or maybe it just takes a certain kind of person t

It hadnt gone well at first, but as soon as they had officially let him into the group, he seemed to fade into the background. Aside from a few strange glances, the members of Team Avatar, as they so ridiculously dubbed themselves, had basically acted as if he had always been there.
