Horror and Macabre Photography FX FAQ and guideSo, ever fancied trying out you skills on the horror and macabre side of things? I started out horror and macabre photography with a crumby camera and mostly improvised props. After receiving many questions about my horror and macabre blood effects, I put together a FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) journal to help people out and also let people know how a lot of my work is done- whether it is for curiosity, or if people want to have a go themselves. This news article is meant to be a reference to the methods used in my work and the work of others, as well as useful tips and a glossary for some of the items used.
My horror work uses an extensive kit list of props and ingredients. Not all of it is used at the same time, but some people may not be familiar with them all. Here is a basic glossary of some things I have used (with examples), so you can find them yourself.

As this image is titled, Goodbye, Summer.
Goodbye long winding roads well traveled.
Goodbye carefree blue sky days,
peppered with endless cloud puffs and
the sound of our echoing laughter as it touches the mountainside.
--hello memories born in gold and crimson sunsets,
flourish inside fertile recollections
and be reborn on chilly nights when the land is white.
Revisit in dreams, bring me the warmth of your light, and
the intoxication scent of some far away tomorrow.

Critique my work! #3 [CLOSED]Critique my work! #3 [CLOSED]7 months ago in Personal More Like This
I know, most of the comments under your pictures are "fantastic", "awsome", "great work", "i like it" and things like that, right? These make you smile but have you ever wondered why? Why do they say this? I have, and I often miss a longer opinion. Because of this I thought from time to time I'll make a journal like this where you can link a piece of your work and I'll give them a longer, more detailed comment, or if you have critique option, I give critique!
What you have to do:
Fave this journal!
Write a comment with your picture's link or thumb! Don't forget, you have only one entry per 'Critique my work!' and it has to be a photo.
(Optional) Pick one picture from somebody else in the comments and critique. Then send me a note with a link to your comment. The best commenters will be selected for a featured journal on the 10th August. (If there will be anybody who does that. )

They look like tiny versions of dinosaur ancestors who have survived into our age, like sharks and crocodiles, but actually they are of a separate evolution and not related. They have scary devil–mask faces, many even sporting horns—but actually, most species are quite human–friendly and can make affectionate pets.
Their endless variations in skin coloring and tattoo–like designs are what draw the artists’ and photographers’ eyes. The chameleons even “change clothes” all day long, wanting to always be wearing the appropriate colors for the “room” they find themselves in.

I've been confronted to an insane amount of art theft cases lately so I've decided to create this journal explaining some important points about this issue.
Many people think images are free because they find avatars, psp tubes, myspace layouts, signatures, etc made out of some pictures, without credit.

Hey, everyone! I’m Eric Proctor (TsaoShin) and I’m a US based digital painter. My work is a mix of fantasy, fun, and the stuff I think is cool. My background in oil painting influences my style and I like to keep my colors outrageous. I’ve been on deviantART for 10 years and my artistic growth has been shaped greatly by this community. I am continuously inspired by the amazing work that people submit here and I’m motivated by the love and comments left by people who appreciate it. Thank you for all of your support!

Celebrating Diversity #26The idea behind the Celebrating Diversity Project is to post an article with deviations not from my area of expertise (Artisan Crafts) but from other Galleries that I almost never visit. This time I specifically searched for mediums that I enjoy but kind of forgot that I did.Celebrating Diversity #261 year ago in Art Features More Like This
Once again, I strongly encourage you to step out of your zone of comfort and take the time to discover or re-discover other types of art. The world is full of wonder and beauty, we just need to take the time and open our minds to see even more of it.

Some of the many reasons why I'm an Atheist… and why Africans and women should not LOGICALLY be christian (in my opinion). Some of the many reasons why I'm an Atheist11 months ago in Personal More Like This
I got some videos from youtube Atheist Dusty Smith, aka CultofDusty on youtube. He is originally from Mississippi if I'm not mistaken, and has since moved to Colorado. So yes, despite the stereotype, there ARE southern Atheists.
I will post the links to these videos. Warning, Dusty gets angry and uses foul language, honestly I don't blame him, christianity and religion in general is so ridiculous it makes ME angry.

- Ansel Adams
When photography was first created it was used primarily for portraits. It was not yet mobile and therefore could not yet be used in genres like landscape or journalism. Portrait painters at the time felt that photography was not legitimately artistic, and this spurred the "Pictorialist" photographic movement. In defense of their art, Pictorialists depicted subjects with soft visual effects and artistic poses. At the beginning of the twentieth century a man named Paul Strand countered the "Pictorialist" movement stating that it was too apologetic, and did not take advantage of the new medium.
Paul Strand was an American Modernist photographer leading the drive to establish photography as a valid form of fine art. However, he did not believe that all forms of photography held artistic value. His argument was based on the idea - central to modernist art, of 'trut
