A Look at EmbroideryWhat is embroidery?A Look at Embroidery2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Embroidery is a sub-genre of Needlecraft. It is broadly defined as the art of decorating fabric or similar materials with a needle and thread (or yarn).
The applications of embroidery are as wide as imagination allows. It has been and still is widely used to decorate all manner of clothing, from wedding gowns to hats. Embroidery is used to make rugs, adorn quilts or even to make pictures out of.
Embroidery first found its roots in ancient China, around 500-300BCE. The need for stitches to mend, tailor and reinforce cloth led to the development of many new sewing techniques. The decorative potential of these stitches was quickly realised, and soon the art form of embroidery was born. Each culture has its own history, tradition and style of embroidery, each as beautiful and captivating as the next.
Today, machine embroidery has lessened the prevalence of hand embroidery, but there are still many individuals who practise it, both as hobbyists and pr

Shaving Faux fur:
For Faux fur plushie makers, You should invest in a WAHl Kennel Pro, I bought two Andis clippers, both gave out after trimming faux fur for a few min. Also Make sure to keep your Clippers oiled and cleaned after using.
I recommend trim the Faux fur first before cutting out the pattern, so if you do cut too deep you can always make a new piece to replace it before sewing your plush together. Make sure to trim with the fur pile not against it, or you will just cut all the fur off, you want to trim it not make it bald.
Keep in mind being a plush artist gets very pricey, with Faux fur some fur colors are rare and you will some
Describing your CharactersDescribing your CharactersDescribing your Characters2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
As writers, one of our primary goals is to bring characters to life in the readers’ imaginations. To do this, a character needs two things:
1) A personality.
2) A physical appearance the reader can imagine.
The first is created through characterization, and the second is said to be done through physical description. While both statements are true, what I’d like to discuss is how physical description needs to do more than just craft appearance, and more than anything, it's characterization that contributes to vividly imagined characters.
Take a look at the following example.
1) When I entered Mr. Smith's office, he stood and smiled at me. He had a big nose, brown eyes, and short, brown hair. He wore a dark suit. I shook his hand.
What do you know about Mr. Smith from this brief scene? The physical details I’ve given say that he has a big nose, brown eyes, and short, brown hair.

And even now I'm seriously considering disabling comments for the things that I make. Because I'm so fed up with the continuous hate. And I'm so goddamn sick and tired of people that send me messages that I should just die, just because I happen to make a tutorial. (Yes, this message was literally send to me -- by PM ofcourse)
In the past weekend I hadn't so much to do. I wasn't that inspired to make art, so I decided to work on that tutorial that for which the idea had been floating inside my head for a while already.
Like some of you know, I've been giving drawing workshops every now and then for the past 2 years. Nothing too serious. I don't even get paid for it (aside from an occasional artbook or fanart drawing). I was there because of passion. Beca

Best video resources for digital artistsLearning the theory without any practice is incredibly pointless when it comes to art. No book, no lecture and no video will ever teach you how to paint if you won't find the time for creating something yourself.Best video resources for digital artists11 months ago in Art Features More Like This
On the other hand, doing everything alone and without any instructions is the longest and hardest way of achieving anything. What's worse it doesn't guarantee you success.
Through the last couple of years I've been painting, I've learned that the best way for me to learn to paint is to copy techniques of people who know what they're doing. There's no better way doing it than watching videos with commentaries. That's why today I thought I'd share with you some great lectures, tutorials and demos I've found on youtube. Below you'll find a list of the best YT channels and samples of videos. Go and subscribe for more great vids!

Yet we all do it. Either aware or unaware.
It all starts when we see an artist here whose work we like a lot.
Most of us have been there. Seeing the work of an artists that hits a soft spot in you, for whatever reason that might be.
You admire it, but at the same time you feel sad because you realize your level is still miles away from this artist, and you will probably never be able to do the same.
But despite everything, you start following this person. And you keep following him.
Because somewhere deep in your soul, you hold the believe --or rather, hope-- that when you watch it long enough, it will reveal it's tricks.
That it will inspire you in some way. And that you'll be able to do the same.
Unconsciously, we all build images of our idol.
It's human nature, I guess. We fill in all the blanks. The things that we don't know from this person.
Because an idol isn't a person anymore at that point. It has become an ico

Ever since I posted Wolf Link and Midna I've been getting an influx of messages asking me to teach, reveal my secrets, take people under my wing, and so on. The sad thing is I can't spend all that much time one on one with everybody asking me to teach them. So I've decided to put together this massive block of text, relating some of my personal experience in plush making and listing off all my resources at the bottom. This will cover the very basics of plush and pattern making so if you are completely new to plush making this is for you, if you're not and you're just looking for resources skip to the bottom. I hope this will be helpful to someone!
First off, the reality. The big secret. The key to becoming a good plush artist is...
I can already feel the glares and exasperation but hear me out first.
One thing I've noticed with a lot of the messages I got were that a lot of people were scared of screwing up.

For the longest time, I had been trying to find a good way to keep my masks from touching the oven rack or pans when I bake them, resulting in that nice brown grill mark across the back of my masks. I tried wax paper, but the wax would heat up and cause a resist texture to show up on the masks when I dyed them (actually results in a cool effect on the masks, for future reference when you want to do this *on purpose*). Using foil scrunched into a ball would only conduct the heat right into the mask, resulting in brittle masks and burnt edges.
Finally, I rando

Last March, I proclaimed "what the hell, I'm going to write a My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic fanfic." I took those words, and posted them on the Internet for thousands to read, thousands to judge me by, and even left the door open for thousands to potentially drop a comment about how sour a turn my life must've taken to have consciously confessed to the Internet, with my real first and last name adorning the top of my dA page, that I actually had aspirations and ambitions to writing fanfiction for My Little Pony. Now whenever a future employer does a background check on me, they will learn that I was so moved by a show made for little girls that for the first time in my life I wanted to write fanfiction for it. &
