Exploring Art 31: It's about the money. Or not...You know, this week has been pretty horrible for art theft for me. I think the hardest part about this week is not that people stole my work, it is the reaction to being busted.Exploring Art 31: It's about the money. Or not...2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I've had everything flung out from 'you're not a lawyer, don't tell me what I can and can't do', to 'if you were a REAL artist you wouldn't care about the money'. I've had people call me a bitch and a whore for asking them to remove my work. I've had people state that I am too rude in telling them to remove the stolen work, and that I should appreciate that they gave me 'free publicity'. I've had people tell me they will now be boycotting my work, and will tell everyone what a shitty person I am and to stay away from my work unless I let them continue to use my work without compensation.
To be honest? I was very close to giving up this weekend. I ended up taking a break and curling up in a hot bath and just crying for a few hours over the weekend. It's painful, it hurts. My pride is wounded, my soul feels
From Resources to Fractal Art #2From Resources to Fractal Art #23 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Welcome to my new serie : "From Resources to Fractal Art".
What is really interesting in the fractal community, is the way deviants interact between each others to share their knowledge with tutorial or Parameters Pong (Sharing Parameters to tweak the main fractals).
Therefore, in this article I'm going to select a resource randomly and show you how to start from a tutorial to achieve a wonderful fractal.
This week, let's take a look at Fiery-Fire & SaTaNiA tutorial : Splits Elliptic Fractals
We were hanging in the :#aposhack:,ponging some params and then a wonderful idea came to us ! What about explaining this simple technique to the deviants.
When we released this tutorial, we honestly didn't think it was going to be such a loved technique!
Some deviants even says : "It is a elliptic-splits mania on DA"
This tutorial is a step by step o
Witchhunts among artists.I was very reluctant on writing this journal, as I often just want to inspire and write uplifting things. This topic is a little less so.Witchhunts among artists.7 months ago in Personal More Like This
The word 'Witchhunt' comes from a time were some women got accused for being witches because of their beauty or their way to modern way of living (being a single mother or non-christian in times where that was absolutely outrageous). Those women would get ridiculous tests to proof their humanity from which they ultimately would die (burning on the fire stake or getting drowned in a river.) The fact that they did not survive it would proof that they are human and not a witch. We all know that there are no immortal people.. so no woman had ever survived it.
Now when we talk about Artist Witchhunts it's pretty similar, an artist would get accused of using unorthodox methods or plagiarism. No one likes plagiarism and
There's a big problem in the gaming community. To be honest, I could write a lengthy essay about the importance to raise awareness about ongoing harrassment against female gamers in the gaming community of today. This is especially since it's close to home as I've been victimized myself plenty of times along with my friends, but there's a really good article which covers it a lot better than I would have. There's a big problem in the gaming community.3 years ago in Personal More Like This
I really think this is important to share and discuss over especially because it's such a frequent occurrence. Please give it a read if you have any care at all in the world!
CLUB RULES IMPORTANT!CLUB RULES4 years ago in Personal More Like This
These are just some general club rules you must read before joining. Please respect them.
In order to become a member, the artist needs to have at least ONE original dragon deviation in his/her gallery. This can be fan art or of someone else's dragon, but the art MUST be original and created by yourself.
You can submit ONE deviation per week in the main gallery. Submission limits are displayed in the main club journal on the front page.
You can only submit deviations that are your own, meaning the submitter and original artist MUST BE the same person. Please do not submit other people's artwork as it will be declined.
Please submit your deviations to the club Gallery in the CORRECT folder. The ones submitted in the wrong folder will be moved to the correct one without notification. If you think your dev

Ponyscape v0.4 Patched!!Hi Everypony!!Ponyscape v0.4 Patched!!3 years ago in Personal More Like This
The patched version of Ponyscape 0.4 is here!! Currently, the Windows, 64-bit Linux, Mac OS X 10.6, 10.7, and 10.8 packages are available! The Linux package was built on Linux Mint 14, but it should work on most up-to-date distributions. On Windows, download the zip file and extract it using 7zip or winrar and run ponyscape.exe. On Linux, download the deb package and install it by running "sudo dpkg -i " or by using a GUI package installer of your choice. On Mac OS X, open the dmg package, drag Ponyscape.app to the Applications folder, and launch Ponyscape.app from your Applications folder. For this patch version, I revamped the Linux package so that everything is now installed in a separate directory from Inkscape and you now run "ponyscape" instead of "inkscape" from a terminal. Additionally I revamped the Mac OS package so that it's now called Ponyscape.app (and I tweaked it a bit so it runs smoother).
You can get the binary packages here (md5's are provided f

Tips on HOW TO BE A BETTER ARTIST.Sometimes I get a notes from you guys asking about tips to draw better. It's okay to ask if you're prepared to get respond that does not resolve all your problems ♥ Many of you ask about techniques, specific things to make your drawing work or just anatomy. I'm not at a place when I can teach you any of this. I'm still at my artistic journey and I'll be in it for the rest of my life. But I can still share with you some experience that I gained while travelling with my drawing. So here they are 8 core points to improve.Tips on HOW TO BE A BETTER ARTIST.2 weeks ago in Personal More Like This
1. Don't try to find your style at first. When your hand isn't warmed up by tons of training and studies you'll only get frustrated. So just draw, regardless of style.
2. Try to understand anatomy. And when I say "try to understand" I mean fill thousands of pages with it. But only one theme at a time. It will be easier. So lets say today you'll be trying to understand an eye, second day work with ears.
Good artI've seen a lot of people claim they know what "good art" is or isn't, so I I'll just add my two cents.Good art4 months ago in Personal More Like This
I spent a very long time trying to make my own art more realistic (never got close to realism, but there was an attempt) but then I realized I didn't even like realistic art and the only reason I was trying to achieve it was because others had told me that's what I should strive for.
It's not that I think realistic art is bad or that other people are wrong for liking it. I can most certainly see the appeal of it. It's simply that I'm personally not that interested in it. When I see realistic art I tend to not notice the work put into it. It's more like a photo to me, even if it includes a lot of fantastical elements. Again, that's what a lot of people like about it, and that's great. I just happen to like when a drawing is unapologetic about being a drawing, like the styles of Bjørn Wiinblad and Tove Jansson.
There are only two things I personally think are important to learn wh

The Greenscreen BudgetSo it's been pretty obvious that the VFX company that did the effects for the Life Of Pi underwent huge financial disaster and a large layoff among its very talented staff. It brought the world's attention to a much needed part of our movie industry, and that part is where all the fictional aspects of movies became a reality, so to speak. The Greenscreen Budget3 years ago in Personal More Like This
However, this is NOT something that only happened yesterday or this week. VFX studios declare bankruptcy ALL the time due to various yet clearly avoidable reasons such as an over staffing of management and under staffing of artists and technicians. Studios constantly underbidding each other simply because the budget just can't afford over 40 mins of quality CGI but needs over 70 mins of it.
Now from a smaller picture, we can clearly see that there is an unequal distribution of budget and funds, and due to poor management of pipelines and a lack of constant client work can put the entire studio out of a job in today's already disastrous economy. But wh
