American Comics, Manga...AND WAR!This is a major turning point in the history of comics, World War II. This period of time not only changed comics as we knew them, but also other areas in graphics such as propaganda posters. Now mid to late 1930's we've seen the birth of the modern comic book. Due to the war as well we're also now seeing the birth of war comics. An obvious example of this as I'm sure many of you have already guessed is Captain America Comics in 1941 (before American involvement in the war). Captain America was created by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby who worked for Timely Comics, which of course has now become Marvel Comics. He gained amazing popularity and is often fighting the Axis powers in World War II.American Comics, Manga...AND WAR!2 years ago in Art Features More Like This

Ah, wow... I haven't updated in a while, and I figure it's time to replace the previous journal entry. I haven't read any of the latest questions and comments on it, I guess I should owo; Not sure how many I'll be able to answer, though.
As many of you probably know, but just in case you don't:
Skullgirls is now OUT! You can get it on PSN or XBLA!
I'll try my best to catch up on comments and notes, and possibly answer any questions you might have, especially if they are related to the characters, world, story, or art. (unless it's stuff I don't know yet or am leaving a secret until the intended reveal)
Also, if anyone sent any Permissions for images to me in the past few months but never got a reply- feel free to send again. I'll try to get into the habit of checking my messages more and approving those.
Man... so much art to catch up with on here too haha... I wonder if I'll be able to.
Thanks for all of the amazing support and inspiration you guys, and have fun with the game
Starting my new job at HBO!so I just now realized that I haven’t mentioned my new gig- I’ve officially started my first week at HBO! I can’t talk about what we’re working on, exactly, but it’s exciting stuff; after five (admittedly amazing) years at Microsoft, I think I was ready for a change.Starting my new job at HBO!7 months ago in Personal More Like This

Kandy Coated Kackles- HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!Well guys, its Halloween again and I'm doing something very special this year. I'm sharing my personal Halloween playlists with everyone! I've been collecting kooky tunes and spooky tracks for about 7 years now and I really feel like sharing with everyone! So for the next 13 days I will post one mix tape up until October 31st! So we got 13 mix tapes in all. Each mix will have a cover drawn by me (some might be new art some might be old since drawing everyday has become difficult for me during work). Also each mix will have some secret treats that you can only hear when you download them.Kandy Coated Kackles- HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!3 years ago in Personal More Like This

Noah's Ark - short reviewOut of curiosity, I recently watched the 2007 version of NOAH'S ARK, an animated movie from Argentina. The film was originally titled EL ARCA ("The Ark" in English, duh), and received an English dub that same year. However, Shout! Factory was "kind" enough to release the English and original Spanish dub on DVD a few months ago. I saw it at my local video store, so I figured it could be good for some laughs.Noah's Ark - short review3 months ago in Personal More Like This
So we all know the story about Noah - Noah is asked by God (who's potrayed as a fat black man, for some reason) to build an ark for his family and for two of every animal in the world, for a flood is approaching. A flood that will wipe away every single person on the planet, and will start life anew. So Noah and his family work hard on this boat, and....
Yeah, you don't wanna hear about this, right? Who cares about NOAH in the movie NOAH'S ARK? Clearly the focus should be on the animals right? Yeah...the movie barely even focuses on Noah and his family. It's about the ani

My Robin Williams storySince we're all sharing... MY ROBIN WILLIAMS memory is when I was working at the Disney/MGM studios Animation (Tour/Studio) in Florida and he came down to take a personal tour of our studio. (He was there for an event/publicity/vacation, can't remember). The tour part of our studio had a film called "Back to Neverland" that he was in and it taught how animation was done. It looped over and over all day long. He got a kick out of the fact that we had to hear him yelling and screaming all day long. At one point, I was shooting at the video animation set up and he came over to see what I was doing. I explained it and he couldn't stop looking at the tour of people going through on the other side of the glass. I explained that we looked at them as "moving wallpaper" an tried not to look at them directly. Not Robin. He was on stage and he immediately found a crazy hat to put on and was running around the place. Robin Williams exuded joy and its sad to hear it wasn't always in his heartMy Robin Williams story3 months ago in Personal More Like This

Live the dream, don't talk about it!Doug TenNapel, independent comics creator, is an inspiration to me in many ways. He has a fun, accessible art style that is dramatic and fresh. His story telling is always askew in the best of ways. I don't think I've read one of his graphic novels without having some smiles and a surprise or two along the way. On top of that, he is outspoken about almost everything in his life. (I think of him as the Rush Limbaugh of comics- oh man, that sounds really bad, but early Rush, not present day Rush, if that helps.) I agree with most things he states on Facebook. BUT- the thing I am most inspired about him is his drive (in the old days we would call that "work ethic"). The guy does NOT give up. Because of that, he single-handedly will put out a new graphic novel a year. While creating a webcomic. While pitching new TV show development ideas in Hollywood. While running a half marathon. While working freelance jobs.Live the dream, don't talk about it!2 years ago in Personal More Like This

Actually, ignoring me is incredibly easy. All you have to do is not read my page and move on with your life. Amazing. Like Kajm, I've forgotten all about you for significant lengths of time, only for you to show up again moaning about how mad I make you by existing.
Anyways, a while back, when I was more politically active on DeviantArt, I posted a link on Conservatoons' page. Scythe then replied to me, "Are you trolling? That's obviously a fake misconception written by bible-worshiping loonies." Our interactions spiraled downhill from there.

All art, no payI just had a discussion with an aspiring writer and manga artist at the convention last week. He told me he has good ideas for a story he's writing, but as he's terrible at drawing, he needed a manga artists to draw the actual manga for him. As he seemed to be pretty serious about it, he tried already to make contact with several artists. But as he doesn't earn money (because... hey... there's no manga yet) he didn't actually pay an artist for the work. As a result, most of the artist gave up after a few pages. Either that, or the art quality was (in his eyes) not good enough. All art, no pay1 year ago in Personal More Like This
As a teacher for the mangaschool organisation, I see a lot of this kind of people. More than I'd like to, actually. This guy was a case book example of the young, aspiring, wannabe manga writer that doesn't understand that you have to invest in something, before you can actually get something from it. Especially when it comes to art.
He kept on ranting about how people didn't draw stuff for them, or how the
Watch out for Von KreepHello, fellow artists! Please follow this link to learn more. For a more in depth thread of those sharing their experiences with this guy, go here.
Now, before I go on any further I’d like to mention that I worked for this guy. It wasn’t long before I heard the horror stories from others who worked for O’Neal. Things usually follow the same pattern. Kreep hires a team of animators to do his bidding, and when he receives compensation, no one on the team sees the money. Besides him, of course. This is something that he’s done for well over five years. Everyone knows that once you’re a scam artist, you’

Someone argued to me today (based on my wearing the cute little Bombshells T-shirt that I bought a week ago) that the character of Harley Quinn is anti-feminist - namely, because she keeps coming back to The Joker, a mercurial psychopath who belittles her, slaps her around and abandons her at the first sign of trouble.
It's an understandable opinion, I'll grant you, but only when coming from someone with a very shallow understanding of both Harley herself and the nature of toxic relationships. Living with an abusive partner isn't like some trashy Lifetime movie-of-the-week, where he begins snarling and throwing you against doorknobs the second you're alone: in real life, tragic as it is, there are
