My third and final submission to the contest This took quite a long time, been working on it steadily since day 1 of the contest. Thought I'd give a Shinigami/reaper character a try along with a respective noise form.
The idea was to give him a sorta manic, wildboy appearance to match his berserky, yet lovable werewolf noise form(which I essentially designed first before the boy.) Was playing with the idea that he assumes his noise form upon the removal of his bandage..which is kinda dumb, but the idea that a bandage can hold back a lycanthrope's transformation, amuses me...
He doesn't use a weapon of any kind in battle, but can exhume a sort of 'halfway' form in which he can use his tattoo as a formidable weapon.
Overall this was a fun project, despite it taking so long, I learned A LOT of new shortcuts in photoshop...and kinda found out the hard way the disastrous consequences of cutting corners when it comes time to assemble all these freakin' images together...
I started my boards before the clarification/revision of the WEWY contest, so I went with the premise of playable stage concepts for the game. I used 4 real Shibuya locations that I didn't see in game screen shots and made sure the designs had hallmarks of WEWY style like distorted perspective and 1/2 or 2/3 screen playable area.
This is the first time I've ever done environ concepts and I had lots of fun. I wish I'd had time to bring more than one to a completed concept stage. Wished I'd spent more time in Shibuya than I did, because I obviously missed out on seeing some amazing architecture first-hand.
EDIT: Holy hell, Batman! Thanks to the judges and Square for choosing this as one of the ten finalist pieces. Major kudos to everyone who entered! Keep drawing and take a little time to make a critique/comment on a few pieces that didn't place. If you note me with a link to your entry, I'll send a little critique love your way.

What a strange little critter this girl turned out to be.
I have a play scheme in mind for her, based on her unusual name, but since I haven't played the damned game I have to keep my mouth shut.
The blocky, heavy inking used in the example images for TWEWY was something I had to try out. I didn't get the feel of the game down, but I took a decent stab at it. You can see through the pictures of Koku Haku that I gained more confidence as I played with it.
Also, my stroke order and all that jazz sucks. Please excuse my horrific kanji!
Fullview is huge at 1213x2100 pixels. Just a warning!
EDIT: Thank you to all the people that stopped by to leave some kind words and thoughts! I really enjoyed making this character design sheet, and will likely make more in the future. I encourage everyone to go through the whole gallery for this contest. There were some real gems contributed.
I thought about giving up this thing ... I had few hours per week to create the concepts for this contest... And I have accumulate a lot of things to do because of this , that´s why I couldn´t throw everything to the sky and run away. Initially, I had 3 characters but I couldn´t improve the concept for all of them. So I have chosen only 2 of them. Tarou has the best concept in my opinion. But when you think about Shibuya fashion way of life, God, he is so no no. I just like his cap, it is a bit different (and fashion?). The others things of his outfit is just reasonable (my opinion). His best trump is the Tarot cards thing! Wow, that idea just sounds very good! Everytime I read the "world ends with you" phrase I just laugh! Tomorrow I´m posting the other character if you waana see it.
Oh, I´m sorry for the grammar errors, my english isn´t quite well. If you see one, tell me, please
PS: And I think he reminds me Micah from Heroes anyway o_o"
She is my last choice for the contest. I like her outfit , that´s nicer and shiner than Tarou´s. And her personality is lovely (my opinion). But, you know, she is totally "character for the girls" that explains that tons of sugar pink XD And it was fun modifying the sprites of the game like if she was a real character
My "The World Ends with You" entry. (Hopefully there will be an Entry No. 2 if I can manage to finish it.)
Name: Referred to exclusively as "NRG" Hobbies: Pawning junk, strolling the streets Strengths: Stamina and power Weakness: Caffeine Occupation: Pawn shop worker/"Treasure hunter". Quote: "Your trash, my treasure."
Short description: NRG radiates an aura of calm toughness. She seems to be left alone by Noise, and is never bothered by street hooligans. Although she might appear either extremely laid back or lazy, NRG doesn't mind work and does a good job of keeping the Pawn Shop stocked with derelict treasures; she'll often wander out late in search of discarded trinkets--her collection of badges is large thanks to her hobby. She is far from credulous, makes good use of her mind, and benefits from asking around when it comes to the mysterious "Reaper's Game" and "Noise".

*edit: resubmitted using my own textures And check out my other entry: [link] :] please
Spiralscope takes the form of a seahorse and has three basic attacks. It can unwind its tail while swinging it like a whip as the spikes extend, spew out deadly bubbles, and send out a sonic wave from its fin.
The spikier the seahorse, the better. Even with those spikes, it looks so huggable. I had a lot of fun with this one. ^_^
Noise concept and official designs belong to Square-Enix. I only own Spiralscope.
Second submission to the contest. Tried to be a bit more original with this one, keeping the pop-urban theme, but applying the style and elements of the sorta people I've observed in my own city.
Her name is derived the slang word "tagger" as in a person who 'tags' on stuff with sharpies, which is also her weapon(s). Had the idea that the pins she uses allow her to draw figures/shapes/strokes in negative space, utilizing her natural drawing abilities for swift attacks OR using specific pins to utilize specific elements/abilities.
