That was the first thing Noel knew as the coppery taste filled his mouth; the pain from the attack was spreading and black spots danced in front of his teary-eyed vision.
Had he not been falling to certain doom, he would have grinned at how anticlimactic this was.
It was not his fault no, not really. He had only presumed that the clue had to be decoded and deciphered; after coming such a long way, he knew the folly of taking things at their face-value. But now, as his jaw crashed with the floor and he felt the dust entering his nose, he had to wonder if his experience had really mattered.
With only a crumbling diary which would turn to dust any time, exaggerated rumors, and hushed whispers to back him up, Noel knew that it had been foolish to venture into the age old caverns of the Temple. But he had ventured forth, his love, his passion, for what the Temple held fueling him.
