for artists and writers: on finding consultsI hope the way I'm handling magic realism can inspire other artists, writers, and viewers in general to be more critical of fantasy--whether it's something you create or just enjoy.for artists and writers: on finding consults1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Because the more scrutinous the fans, the more creators have to get with it, and the more with it the creators are, the cooler shit we have going around.
So here are some ideas to make your shit cooler.
1. Research, reference, and find consults. This is far easier than a lot of people think it is. Searching on the internet is great, but you're likely to get a lot of overly-complicated, irrelevant information at first--and then later, it won't be specific enough. Books are a lot better because they cover topics in a broader way with a lot of related ideas you might not think to search but end up super important to what you're doing. So go to the library, or the bookstore, and take notes while you're in there if you don't want to buy things. But if

Basics Of Still Life PaintingTraditional Art WeekBasics Of Still Life Painting2 months ago in Art Features More Like This
A still life is a work of art depicting mostly inanimate subject matter, typically commonplace objects which may be either natural (food, flowers, dead animals, plants, rocks, or shells) or man-made (drinking glasses, books, vases, jewelry, coins, pipes, and so on).
~Still Life, Wikipedia
I don't know why, but a lot of of people including me thinks it is amazing to be able to draw or paint the impression of the inanimate objects we are seeing more than portraits or scenes. Maybe because only this genre allows the artist to build his own composition and arrange the elements all by himself unlike the portraits or the landscapes.
Depicting an object to trick a viewer to think it is real but still - Hence, still life.
Apart form that, still life practice keeps us grounded with very basic rules and it eventually improves us when we draw or paint more complex things, b
Setting Prices for Your ArtworkThere are few hard and fast rules when it comes to pricing artwork to sell. Why you ask? Well for one there are many variables that go into determining the cost of the artwork. It’s for that very reason that many artists (including myself in the past) sell themselves tremendously short. Another reason we as artists feel our palms getting sweaty when someone asks for a price to an artwork is because we feel as though we’re not being true artists if we accept money for our work. No, no no. Listen, I can tell you from experience that the “starving artist” lifestyle is waaaay less glamorous than it sounds when your pantry is bare for reals. There is absolutely nothing shameful about getting paid for honest work, so don’t try to make yourself feel guilty or ashamed of turning a profit. On the other hand, artists fall into the mire of not even knowing how to price individual artworks. This confusion only gets worse when you look at the price tags iSetting Prices for Your Artwork4 months ago in Art Features More Like This
My drawing is slanted, angled, crooked, skewed!Skewing is a very common issue for artists. When we draw faces or people, one eye might be too high or maybe we unintentionally draw every character leaning to the right. These little inaccuracies may be a result of the angle of our drawing surface, paper angle, our head tilt, wrist movement or some combination of these factors and others. During the drawing process, our mind grows accustomed to a slightly odd angle here or there, and we may be oblivious to the fact that the drawing leans one way or the other. Often, facial proportions are asymmetrical. My drawing is slanted, angled, crooked, skewed!3 years ago in Personal More Like This
There are some simple methods to correct this habit. When working digitally, flip your image horizontally from time to time to help yourself observe the shapes from a fresh perspective and fix them. When working traditionally, occasionally view your work reflected in a mirror or hold it (with the image facing away from you) in front of a light source so that you can see the reversed image.
Another technique is to draw a line or plane fr
You are worth it!Just one of the many messages I got here on DeviantArt;You are worth it!1 year ago in Deviant Events More Like This
I don't know if it's okay to send a note, I don't want to bother you. You faved my artwork, and I just wanted to thank you for that. I just saw your profile and I wanted to say: you are an AMAZING artist and great with story lines. Amazing talent. It's an honor to meet someone like you. I do a lot of art myself, but I'm nowhere as good as you are. I honestly don't know why a great artist like you faved my work. I don't think I'm worth the attention, since you're a way better artist than I'll ever be. But thanks a lot.
Honestly... the amount of comments I get like this nowadays is high.
And although I have to admit the whole I-like-your-art-thing is kinda flattering, it somehow still makes me sad.
Why all this buzz over a simple fave? It's DeviantArt! A digital collection of art. We are supposed to fave artwork that we like!
Why all this insecurity? Since when does the level of art

While the majority of the people reacted very positively towards the tips & tricks I shared, there were also some very hostile reactions that ideas like that would encourage you to be something you're not.
I'd like to elaborate on that.
First of all, these tips are basically science.
I didn't just randomly think them up. Most of the points are things that have been proven through marketing- and usability research. This whole marketing thing, however, is a field many artists are for some reason unfamiliar with, so people don't take it into account when wondering why they don't get the exposure they think they deserve. They often undeserving think it's their art that sucks, and that's a shame.
The reason I post this stuff, is mainly because I want people to know.
What you do with it, is

Official images of the "reportedly/allegedly" Canceled Legend of Chima Constraction line of figures have surfaced proving that The hack reporters at BZP NEED TO SOURCE THEIR INFORMATION!
Anywho The images have been added to the Descriptions down below. I sincerely hope these sets are released because They're way cooler than the offerings from Hero Factory this year in my opinion. And it'd be a real shame not to get all those great new parts and recolors.
Found an official video showing off the new Chima UBs. Here it is.
Here's hopefully some better looks at the Legends Of Chima summer sets as well as a great many others.

How to read the news.Any time I pass comment on world events, especially if that comment is negative toward the actions of a foreign country, I get the same replies: “Your media is lying to you”, “It’s all propaganda”, etc.How to read the news.2 months ago in Personal More Like This
I promise the people that said all that: I’m just as paranoid and untrusting of the world as you guys, which is why I question everything before opening my mouth.
There is constant talk of conspiracy and media manipulation, and I believe that it does occur, but it is not as long lasting as it was prior to the dawn of the digital age. In the past, information could be controlled very easily, but now, with everyone who owns a phone being a potential source of news, the truth will surface much faster. Lies are now exposed within hours, not decades.
Within the comments of a recent deviation I made mention of how I assess information, but it probably go lost so I shall repeat it here: I don’t just look at one news source, I study three. The BBC, RT a
Can someone explain "renders" to me?I've been bumping into this more an more so I decided to share my RAEG.Can someone explain "renders" to me?3 years ago in Personal More Like This
So there is this group of people on dA who take some already existing art and cut out the backgrounds. That's all. They find some artwork, usually anime fanart, cut the background out, add their own watermark and BAM post it to their galleries as a free to use stocks without the permission of the original authors.
What's most infuriating there is almost always a disclaimer such as this one :
Oi, dumbfucks! Yes I'm talking to you. Why should anyone credit you for something that you did not create. You've contributed nothing. You've cut the background out, something that in most cases, can be done basically automatically by a computer program with a little to no human assistance.
The whole dA's category for stock renders is flooded with this shit --> http://browse.deviantart.com/resources/stockart/3drenders/
I'm sorry but I was under the impression that a render is a 2d image generated from a 3d

Alright, so this is a comment and question I've been receiving a lot from people!
How did you improve so fast?
Firstly, I want to say I do not think of myself as a professional artist, teacher or someone who "knows the secret to becoming a master artist". These are just things that I have picked up over the years, and noticed so I thought I might as well share my experience with improvement in effort to help others find their own paths of improvement and learning as artists. There are still many things I have to learn, and wish to improve about my own art! The path of an artist is never ending, in my opinion!
I consider the beginning of my journey when I withdrew from college. I had decided to take a year off from school, to explore myself more as a person, gain confidence and rethink my path that I wanted to take in school. Of course,
