What if plants were intelligent, exploring and analyzing the world with a sophisticated system of senses?
Over at Reality Sandwich, a long essay outlines a growing body of research about the intelligence of plants.
Increasing numbers of researchers, in a multiplicity of fields, are beginning to acknowledge that intelligence is an inevitable aspect of all self-organized systems—that sophisticated neura

Worldbuilding: Environments and Social StructuresAre you ready to build a world? Good!Worldbuilding: Environments and Social Structures2 years ago in Literature Features More Like This
The Magic Gateway, by jerry8448. This is what we want to do with worldbuilding.
Worldbuilding is a complex process, because it is essentially creating the base of a different reality from our own. An author must pull together all the elements of a 'world', and capture that in text. This applies in any genre of writing. Even non-fiction has aspects of worldbuilding because it has setting and world details the same as fiction. In any genre, if the world is flat, the story will be flat and one of the best ways to build a fictional world is to know about one's own. Stories and readers both require an interesting and engaging place to go to, and our world, as well as any imagined one, can provide this! Because our world is the base of most human experiences, it is a great place to understand for both personal and writing reasons. If the author understands the sett

The Successor of Harry Potter?I was just enjoying Order of the Phoenix on TV again and was surprised to discover that not only did I recall the film series fondly but the books as well and equally so for different reasons. Just every aspect of the mythos was like a comfortable blanket of memories, every character welcome to see for their own sake, villain and hero alike. Certainly the movies truncated the books and reworked some of their aspects, but Harry Potter at its core is such a strong, fun concept that the films served as companion pieces, not replacements for the books, and the books did not spoil my enjoyment of the on screen adaptations. It's also one of the series I remember the plots of fondly, the dialogue, the progression of events but I never get tired of revisiting that old familiar stomping ground. There's so many little nuances to explore I might have missed or forgotten, and most of all there's aspects of the series to actually enjoy and even care about. The Successor of Harry Potter?2 years ago in Personal More Like This

DRAGON CASTLE by randis
According to the Chinese zodiac, 2012 has ushered in the year of the dragon upon the world stage.
In addition to occupying an ages old position in our cultural consciousness, legend and folklore surrounding
the dragon mythology has long been firing the kiln of our dreams with fright and menace. When we are speaking of
Dragons, we are speaking from ancient texts gathered form the beginnings of kept records of any kind and fro

Should Today's Technologies Inspire?
We got to interview a visionary futurist with an eye on technology about what would inspire today's comic book writers to create our next superheroes with knowledge of real technological and scientific advancement.
You never know when it’s going to happen – that otherwise quotidian moment when you suddenly realize your entire thought process has just been tripped up and cast down a cerebral rabbit-hole destination unknown. Little did I know that what began as a typically pleasurable lunch with spyed and makepictures during the San Diego Comic-Con last year would morph into a mind-expanding mental wormhole voyage to the future courtesy of another guest at our table, JordanGreenhall, known to me only as the co-founder

Sometimes in youth we play crazy mind games. One gruesome game was trying to think of the worst way to die. Or even better, the "which would you choose" version of the same conceit. Another was what would be the worst torture to endure. If there is one international touchstone that best captures youthful fears and wonders in speculation of what lies beyond the veil of death and awaits as possible punishment for our sins, it must be - to the few who have actually read it to the millions who "know" it – "Dante's Inferno." Who does not shiver at the thought of being lost somewhere in the "Nine Rings of Hell?"

On March 1, 2012 the Nevada DMV issued the first license for a Google Driverless Car. The idea behind this innovation is that one day soon new technology will drive cars safer and more skillfully than humans, thus saving lives and billions of dollars in car crashes. How well this idea catches on is a bit questionable, given the powerful “romance” of driving one’s car, but it’s certainly an indicator of things to come in the daily intersection of human and artificial intelligence and mobility. There have always been those who have dreamed of stepping into a mechanical exo-skeletal-type “suit” and letting the engineering do the work, insta

A Pop Culture Interpretation of The Supernatural
Every culture around the world created gods and other mythical beings by mixing and matching fanged and taloned animal parts—e.g., enormous eagle heads on lions’ bodies—human beings have always seemed to need to believe there are powerful and usually quite vengeful supernatural beings lurking just beyond the candlelight.
Supernatural beings come to serve several purposes:
They kept people on the lighted path of truth and goodness, fearful of exploring beyond;
They were a reminder of the punishment we deser

After a long time and some updates a new beta with a setup.exe is ready.
The main focus in this version was to fix some issues due updates made in both Amazon database and iTunes application.
CD Art Display should work properly again.
In addition, the new Skin Browser is still under development. The Upload feature will be reviewed since some additions are from known skins and not only new and original ones. That's why new skins were not added.
Finally, the idea is to update the translation (a lot of work ahead) and then release CD Art Display 3.0 final.

The recently announced changes to the core mythos of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and the backlash from fans over the ending to Mass Effect 3 have ignited an incredible discussion about the rapidly evolving “collaborative” relationship between producers and consumers of videogames, movies, and similar “products.” Now it’s exploded beyond the secure borders of top news publications, gamin
