How to Become Popular on DeviantartSince I joined on deviantart I have been fascinated by many works.. Really nice works which have a lot of favourites and others which havent. I questioned myself why it could happen? Why works so wonderful and people so talented can be unknown in this community? How to Become Popular on Deviantart5 years ago in Art Features More Like This
So, I decided to write this article.
For it, I sent this three questions for some pop artists:
- What's the secret to become popular?
- Why do some people become popular so fast, doing ordinary art, and others which do amazing art cant be popular?
- Is there any trick to become popular? Like watching a lot of people, faving everything you can, posting a lot of journals or promoting contests?
Some of them answered me so kindly and fast, others answered me in a way kinda rude and others didnt answer..
By now, I have some ideas, some quotes and I want to show you all information I got about it.
So, lets start:
First, I must say there are several ways to become popular. To make this article, I did a

Fire! For years its always frustrated me on how to colour fire effectively. Make it look real so to speak.Fire!2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I think I've cracked it...
In the past I either painted the flames in and then used the smudge tool to distort the living daylights out of it and did this on a few layers until it all started to look ok. The other option was to use a photo of some flames, and then set it to screen mode to get rid of any black so it could appear transparent over whatever was burning underneath. This works but has the disadvantage of making the flames look a little washed out. More layers of the flames helps but again isn't perfect.
However this time on the picture that I'm doing now (Keu Cha's Hex TLT Issue 1 cover with inks by k-omer. -- all for fun.) I did my usual little gradient glow of white-orange-yellow-transparent but then grabbed a flame photo and quite by accident copied the red channel and pasted it into a new layer....
WOW! I now have full colour photo flames on their own transparent l

Sans serif — Italics & weights
In the previous article of the typography series I presented some of the basic principles of type design and we started designing a geometric sans typeface such as Futura. In this article we will expand that typeface and add italics and alternate weights. Or rather, I will show you how to design italics and briefly present how you can modify your regular weight typeface to create alternate weights rather than having to re-draw the whole letter.

It's that time of year - everybody who is anybody is getting their airmiles on and jetting off somewhere exotic right? Soggy weekends in Cornwall definitely count! But aside from topping up a tan or getting a healthy dose of clean air in a mountain range, what else can you achieve from a holiday?
The possibilities...artistically...are endless! And whether or not you are going abroad or staying in your home town the opportunities to create some Travel Portrait Photography can present themselves at any moment.
Besides if you aren't going anywhere this season - let the interesting people come to you!
So where do you start? You can achieve awesome portraiture with anything as simple as a digital point and shoot. But in SLR terms a 35mm camera is the best to create portraits.
You don't need anything too major for t

1M Downloads & GithubThis day marks a special milestone of achievement for the developers of Omnimo. A humble project that started almost two years ago reached one million downloads today. Most of you probably don't know that this project was supposed to be much smaller. When I came up with the early concept in the middle of March, I intended it to have approximately 12 panels and several text items.1M Downloads & Github3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Omnimo: The Beginning
Nothing more. However, shortly after the concept, Xyrfo joined the project. And with our combined passion and ambition, as well as with some help from others, we managed to create the biggest Rainmeter suite ever. Xyrfo did some amazing stuff for the project. Things without which it would just remain but a dream of a madman. But he did it! For that, he deserves no less recognition than I do.
And of course, we would like to thank the community for all the support! You guys are awesome! Nothing motivates doing a project better than to see people use and enjoy the product. W
Literature DD Roundup- June 2013Hello all!Literature DD Roundup- June 20131 year ago in Literature Features More Like This
We’re scarily already halfway through the year! Next month sees another round of camp NaNoWrimo as well as the glorious Flash Fiction Month. We hope to see lots of involvement and good writing come out of those!
Us CVs are really keen to see some diversity in our DD choices each month. We’re keen to see pieces that are a little different, or broach genres/themes that perhaps are not as common as others. If you do see anything out there which meets those and are fabulously written, please do send in your DD suggestions to any of us!
Here is the roundup for June

Joss Whedon's Top Ten Writing Tips!I recently made a post and shared an article I found where Joss Whedon shared his top ten writing tips. The first five are here and the full list is on our blog! Great stuff!!!Joss Whedon's Top Ten Writing Tips!2 years ago in Art Features More Like This

Joss Whedon is most famous for creating Buffy the Vampire Slayer, its spin-off Angel and the short-lived but much-loved Firefly series. But the writer and director has also worked unseen as a script doctor on movies ranging from Speed to Toy Story. Here, he shares his tips on the art of screenwriting.
1. FINISH IT
Actually finishing it is what I’m gonna put in as step one. You may laugh at this, but it’s true. I have so many friends who have written two-thirds of a screenplay, and then re-written it for about three years. Fin

The “colony collapse disorder” currently decimating our honeybees was the prompt for Louie’s new movie, Wings of Life, which at it's essence, is a love story that feeds the earth.

As far as this tutorial's subject matter is concerned, I feel comfortable explaining about ninety percent of what follows. However, I want this to be as accurate as possible, so I've gone to other sources online to back me up (primarily to fill in the gaps of my knowledge in terminology). I've included the links to these sources immediately below as well as in the author's description. I will refer to them throughout the tutorial by their source number (Source 1, Source 2, etc). If you wish to better your grammar even further, I particularly recommend grammarbook.com (Sources 2 and 3). Note that all the examples I give in this tutorial were not taken from the sources; they are my own.

Sans serif — Roman
In this article/tutorial I will show you how to design a typeface. I will cover the basics and show you how to design advanced letters as well. There is so much I can talk about though, so if people like this article I might expand on this with future articles and get more into detail. I will only cover the design though, so you will have to research how to do the spacing and programming and turn your typeface into a usable font—or wait until I might do an article on that as well, but I don’t have such an article planned anytime soon.
What will we design?
I will first show you how to design some basic letters for a geometric sans typeface like Futura, because it utilizes geometric shapes, which is always my starting point for every typeface regardless of style. O

So, I decide I wanna get the more "low" shot and walked down to the surface. I gently place the tripod, with camera attached to of course, two legs on the ice and the third on solid ground. Checked it twice, it was sturdy and would be still. Yeah...
Composition is set and placing of the 10 stop filter for a long exposure, check. I stand up and look around, as the camera screams beautifully with it's open mirror, soaking up every glimpse of light around.
The shot is captured and I see it's being saved down the card. As I lean to pick up the camera I see the third leg slip from the rock and down between the ice and rock, where there wasn't a hole 2 minutes ago! Of course this ice wasn't solid, after all.... dumb idiot.. It gently moved back and f
An Argument for SaidPrefaceAn Argument for Said3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Before reading on, I want to make it clear that I only make this argument for writings of the English language. Although it may apply to others as well, I've learned through the comments below that at least in German and Russian this principle is reversed. So unless you're planning to write in English, you should look to writers of your own language for guidance.
An Argument for Said
When writing dialogue, it is necessary to use dialogue tags, which are the phrases that identify who's speaking. They're pretty easy to recognize once you know what they are. Here are a few examples, with the tags in bold.
"Canoodle is a funny word," she said.
"I'll have two beers, one schnitzel," he slurred.
"Don't drink the Kool-Aid," she whispered.
Look familiar? Simply put, they're "he/she said" and all its synonyms. Moving on.
When you're writing, you obviously want to

THE NEXT THREE YEARS OF MY LIFE
I had received a job offer at Microsoft. I guess this could have been one of my first 'big time' jobs, so I was a little ecstatic. It felt like a slow build to get to this point, after numerous indie games and under the table freelance jobs, but finally it had come.
I was working with my now best friend and business partner, Stephan, a suave German who I had met only a year or so prior. He had brought me into the fray, working with several other individuals who will, well, simply be known as individuals for privacy sake.
But yes, finally, I could put a professional company I

Also this journal is probably going to be super-messy and slightly badly-categorized for the first few weeks, so if anything looks out of place and/or you can think of a better way for me to organize this, please
