1M Downloads & GithubThis day marks a special milestone of achievement for the developers of Omnimo. A humble project that started almost two years ago reached one million downloads today. Most of you probably don't know that this project was supposed to be much smaller. When I came up with the early concept in the middle of March, I intended it to have approximately 12 panels and several text items.1M Downloads & Github3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Omnimo: The Beginning
Nothing more. However, shortly after the concept, Xyrfo joined the project. And with our combined passion and ambition, as well as with some help from others, we managed to create the biggest Rainmeter suite ever. Xyrfo did some amazing stuff for the project. Things without which it would just remain but a dream of a madman. But he did it! For that, he deserves no less recognition than I do.
And of course, we would like to thank the community for all the support! You guys are awesome! Nothing motivates doing a project better than to see people use and enjoy the product. W
Syn's Dithering TutorialWhat is dithering?Syn's Dithering Tutorial2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Dithering is a pixel art process used to blend blocks of colour together or help apply a texture to a pixelled surface. Within emoticons it is most commonly used when making pixelled backgrounds, however it can be used in a number of other areas, e.g. massive emote bases, pixel objects etc. In this tutorial, we will focus on how 2 colours can be blended with dithering.
To break dithering down into simple terms, it is achieved by simply taking the colours from the two blocks of colour and placing individual pixels of each on the opposite side. This creates a region where the two colours merge together to create a more blended colour transition instead of a clear line between the two.
Dithering can seem like a complex process, but it's really not. Once you get the basic idea and technique, it's just all about practice and over time you'll learn how to apply it to a number of different situations. There are many dithering styles which can be

Daily Deviation Suggestion GuidelinesHow do I make a suggestion?Daily Deviation Suggestion Guidelines5 years ago in Personal More Like This
The suggestion should come from the Literature gallery. Please send your suggestions to me or Halatia, but not more than one of us! If you're sending me the note, please put "DD suggestion" in the topic, and send only one deviation suggestion per note. It'll help me keep track of suggestions. You can also use the Suggest DD script, in which case, it'll fill everything out for you on its own, as well as make sure the artist hasn't received a DD in the last three months. If you'd like, you can add a brief description telling me why you think the piece deserves a DD.I probably won't reply. But that's only because of time-eating gremlins! I look at and read every suggestion sent to my message center.
What am I looking for?
I welcome any form of written art; if it's sitting in the Literature Gallery, I'd love to give it a read.I am looking
Art in Contemplation of Its Own BecomingDuchamp finds a discarded urinal. He alters it (by signing a name to it not even his own, but obviously “the artist’s”) and names it “The Fountain”. The most mundane, even off-putting, of objects is transformed by Duchamp into art. He submits it for exhibition and it is rejected. You might say the judges “pissed on” his idea. But the idea was born and persisted. Duchamp insisted the object was art because he as an artist presented it as such. “Conceptual Art” was born.Art in Contemplation of Its Own Becoming3 years ago in Personal More Like This

A Quick Guide to Publishing ResourcesPublishing WeekA Quick Guide to Publishing Resources2 months ago in Personal More Like This
A lot of you are probably familiar with my extensive Publishing Resources List, and if you are, you probably know that it’s gotten rather…unwieldy. This article will serve as a quick guide to the most essential resources I’ve collected, so you don’t get too overwhelmed when you’re starting out.
My Idiot’s Guide to Lit Mag Publishing and Idiot’s Guide to Book Publishing are two good overviews of the most popular types of publishing. Another great resource for those of you hoping to publish books is this chart, which covers the different p

A serving of inspiration...
We are all different, but aren't we eventually deep down all the same? Maybe you believe that, maybe you don't. Sometimes life has a way of forcing you to believe things that you never thought you would - and making you meet people that normally would never belong in your circle of friends. But for one reason, that maybe you don't even know at first, you end up together.
Two people who would not normally meet end up together by circumstance and di

Ready, Set, NaNo!So it's that time of the year again and we're all racing around trying to get our bits together for NaNoWriMo. OR, we're laughing at the people running around trying to get all their bits together for NaNo. In the past, I've written articles on what NaNo is and how to prepare for it. This isn't one of those articles. Well, not entirely. Let's start with the glaringly obvious.Ready, Set, NaNo!8 months ago in Literature Features More Like This
What's the point of NaNo?
If you answered "To write a 50k Word Count Novel in a month's time," you're wrong. NaNo is about conditioning writers to write regularly, keep those creative juices flowing and to work under pressure. November is a busy month. Students are back in school. Parents are dealing with said students. In the United States, we have Thanksgiving and of course everyone is getting ready for Christmas. Add in clearing 1,667 words a day and we're talking about some major pressure. But that's the poi

I'm not raspil...nor am I trying to be, given that raspil does a solid job of being raspil herself. But I think dA needs something like ScreamPrompts to kick everyone's ass up a notch, hence this group.I'm not raspil7 months ago in Literature Features More Like This
Read more about what's happening with ScreamPrompts here.
The first prompt will be up December 1. I want to make sure everyone has a chance to write for Scream before the end of the year, as raspil is planning to put an anthology together and, on top of the awesome you're already guaranteed to be a part of, the proceeds will be going to charity.
How is SadPrompts going to work?
I'm not a genius at prompts, so I welcome feedback on what type of challenges you'd like to see. Of course, if your complaint is "I struggled with this," I reserve the right to snicker in your general direction. That's the point. Now, if your complaint is "this is too easy," I'm all ears.
The prompts will be written for short prose (500-5,000 words).

..and stay active! Which we all know isn't always easy.
with a side of "submission rules, those tricksies"
Now, first of all: this article assumes a lot of stuff!
you're interested in writing and/or reading.you're not joining thousands of groups just to submit your stuff all over the place to get exposure but give nothing back.
you're not simply following groups to stay up-to-date on their events and news, without really wanting to participate in their life.
And with that off of our systems, let's start the tour!
First of all, remember this: Lit groups take a lot more effort than any other. This is because, obviously, reading through deviations takes more time than viewing pictures and photographs.
So let's create a fictional situation.
I know there are people who are on deviantART multiple times a day, but let's suppose that you're an average user who logs in once a day, and has thirty minutes to an hour of free time to devote to dA. And when

Today we're bringing you some major changes for Film & Animation deviations, and also some new tools for deviantART muro and Sta.sh Writer!
Film submission through Sta.sh
The first major change for Film is that Sta.sh is now properly equipped to support film submissions! While it was sort of possible in the past, Sta.sh can now store and submit film files the same way other filetypes can be stored and submitted.
Keep in mind that you have to have film submission privileges in order to submit films to deviantART. For more information on this, please read this FAQ: :faq842:
Film Deviation Page Changes
The second change is regarding the layout of film deviations. The old film layout was designed with an older version of deviantART in mind, and this change places Film submissions back up to speed with the rest of the site. The Film deviation page has been updated to

::If you wish to join, this is what you'll do::
Come up with a suitable design for a mascot that you think represents CitruSmoothie (something "fruity" is to be preferred )
Make the design into a model edit
Post a picture with your creation here on DA and comment in this journal with a link to your deviation.
I will personally choose the winner at the end of the competition.
Only ONE entry per DA user please. If you submit several, only the first one will count.
I don't rly care what parts you use (as long as they look good ^^) so if you feel you want to take parts from a "non-editable" model, I seriously wouldn't

As a storyboard and comic artist, I often do a lot of fight and action scenes, having to distill a lot of motion into a single still image.
For this challenge I’d love to see what kinds of things you guys come up with and how you convey the idea of motion in a single image.
