My 2013 FavoritesHello dear watchers and friends,My 2013 Favorites1 year ago in Art Features More Like This
I hope everyone of you have a wonderful holiday time and have a good start in the new year.
I had a nice time with my family and some of my best friends. Tomorrow the "real world" have us again in their greedy claws so I decide to remind myself of really great works of 2013. I started with training basics, before I come back with commercial works.

GraysLast week when I said that I wouldn't be doing con sketches of copyrighted characters, I had no idea that the news would get the coverage that it did. But seeing as how I helped poke the hornet's nest--and having taken the time to read the opinions of readers and other artists--I feel like it would be helpful if I responded to help clarify what's been happening.Grays3 years ago in Personal More Like This
First off, I think that what happened regarding this issue highlighted the BEST of our industry. I'm thrilled with the results, although I don't find Marvel's statement reassuring (more on that later). When we learned that Marvel was pursuing the $17,000 from Friedrich, we came together as concerned professionals and fans and managed to affect the situation. Even though we disagreed, at least we weighed out the options. And we even came together to set up funding to help out Friedrich. With the use of Twitter, blogging, and proper action from the media outlets, w

Answer is simple, it seems I have lost interest for such thing because it was a complete waste of time. Or, it could be the excessive pet peeves I found.
Have anymore suggestions? Help complete this list!

*The whiny, annoying, and overall, mean or otherwise stupid, heroine of a typical shoujo manga.

Protips1# How to price your art ?As we are on an artist platform, maybe it's time for me to share some of my experience as an artist with my fellows around here. Well, I'm sure there are a lot of articles of that kind on the internet, but I still receive the same questions over and over so maybe it could be a good idea to write regularly here about one of them... And if the concept pleases you, I will maybe write some more.Protips1# How to price your art ?4 months ago in Personal More Like This
The first subject is not the easiest, because money and art is still kind of taboo for lot of people, but I choosed it because I think it's one of the most essential point for beginners ( young artists as students or hobbyists who would like to sell some original works or comissions, or young freelancers ). Well, it will be a very general approach, so if you want to talk about a point more precisely, or if you need more examples, feel free to comment below. I'll be glad to answer!
At first, don't think "How much a client would like to pay for my art?"
If you decide to sell your ar

A Poem for you!!!!...:)LIFE comes into no guarantees,no time outsA Poem for you!!!!...:)3 years ago in Personal More Like This
no second chances, you just have to live life to the fullest,
laugh as much as you can, spend all your money,
tell someone what they mean to you, tell someone off,
speak out, dancein the pouring rain, hold someones hand,
comfort a friend, pig out, fall asleep watching the sun come up,
stay up late,be a flirt, smile until your face hurts,
don't be afraid to take chances or fall in love....and most of all
live the moment because every second you spend angry or upset
is a second of happiness you can never get back.....<3
a friendly advice for you guys with the form of a poem!!!!!!!

Before I say anything else, if you're an artist you should go buy both of James Gurney's books about painting. If you like the approach this blog takes to analyzing paintings, you'll love Gurney's approach in these books. The one this painting is from is Color and Light: A Guide for the Realist Painter, and his first one is Imaginative Realism: How to Paint What Doesn't Exist. A Guide to Picarto and XsplitSo someone asked me how I got Xsplit to work with Picarto, and that reminded me of the very tough time I had trying to find the answer to my own questions about how to get the two to work together. SO! In light of that, here's a handy-dandy short guide for streamers.A Guide to Picarto and Xsplit10 months ago in Software Reviews More Like This
First of all, some background. For those who don't know, Xsplit Broadcaster is exclusively a PC program that will allow you to stream multiple kinds of media (screen capture, video, webcam, skype video, games, etc etc) to a broadcasting site of your choice. It's high definition (at the least it will stream 1280x720 HDTV 16:9 for free users and 1920x1080 HDTV 16:9 for subscription users) and generally, I've found, a useful tool that doesn't require you to do too much to get everything set up for streams every time you start one. It's a great tool, it's free and you should check it out if you want to find out more infromation.
Picarto, for those who don't know, is a .tv website geared exclusivel

I have never found a companion who was so companionable as solitude.
Henry David Thoreau
By :icontechgnotic: techgnotic
I I always thought of Thoreau’s comment as simply a word game — clever but ultimately false at its core. A Valentines Day without a Valentine means being alone and alone means being unhappy. It’s taken many years to finally understand the truth in Thoreau’s words. We are never so alone as when in the company of loving family and friends, our Valentine companion held tight in our arms – but knowing we are lost, unfulfilled in our dreams and visions, and untrusting in our own inner counsel. Now I hope to one day seek companions

In Drawing Down the Moon: The Art of Charles Vess.
This analysis copyright Scott M. McDaniel, 2010.
There are two versions of The White Goddess. This one is colored inks.
And this one is pen and ink:
So I'm finally back after the hiatus. I've been antsy about the time off, so I'm glad to get to this one. I first ran into Charles Vess' work in the Sandman comics and his association with Neil Gaiman (Stardust, The Blueberry Girl, etc.). I find it easy to pick out his art based on style alone, and I also think it draws heavily on golden age illustrators like Rackham and Dulac. (I just picked up a good book on Dulac, so I'll be doing one of his soon).

DACN Avatar Contest #1 (contest closed)Howdy swatchbucklers!DACN Avatar Contest #1 (contest closed)4 years ago in Personal More Like This
Thanks to the fe.w that entered. We will post the miner asap
Edit: Just letting you all know there is only 1week remaining in the contest.
Well as I mentioned in the last journal, here is our first ever contest here at DACN. Its called the "Avatar" contest, not only because the person who wins is a manifestation of a Divine being, but because the winner will have his or her art featured in the DACN Avatar. We hope to hold these regularly to keep the avatar ever changing and give many people the chance to have their work featured.
How it works:
You will have 2 weeks to Color the flats provided courtesy of :iconflats-for-colorists: (or grab the lineart and flat and color it yourself if that's the way you like to do things) and submit it to the soon to be available contest folder in the groups gallery, the best entry will be chosen by a panel of the DACN Admin. The winner will have the best image in their gallery selected and featured in the groups avatar.
