CONTEST! [now until August 10th]CONTEST! [now until August 10th]2 years ago in Personal More Like This
As the title says, contest time.
Goal? Take something I wrote and reinterpret it into something yours. Aka, I'm giving you an art prompt.
The poem I wrote for this contest can be found in the deviation below:
Entries are to be visual illustrations (comic, digital painting, pencil sketch, etc.). A brief explanation of your interpretation in the artist comments is required as well.
As much as I love them, no written entries will be judged unfortunately! I don't trust in my ability to evaluate literary works enough to work with them in a way needed for a contest - though if you do want to submit a written response anyway, feel free to do so! They just will not be considered, but I'll find them enjoyable anyway and would love to see them.
A winner will be picked based on several things, including (but not limited to) factors like general execution and the impact of your embedd

Knowing When to Put the Foot Down and Say NoI have a number of things I want to say on this topic, but before I do, there's this quote:Knowing When to Put the Foot Down and Say No3 years ago in Personal More Like This
"Some of you are continuing to buy books you don't like. Some of you, I would venture, have been doing this for years. I direct this, with all the lovingkindness in my soul, to you:
The time has come to stop doing that.
Stop playing on their terms.
Because they've got you, and they know they do, because they've had you for years in some cases. They're holding you by the short-and-curlies, because they know, they absolutely know that if they publish something with "Bat" in the title, or the letter "X," or the word "Spider" you will buy it, and you will keep on buying it no matter its quality. No matter if they're ignoring you, or if in some instances they've even gone so far as to outright insult and dismiss you.
This isn't an indictment of any particular story or event or character or creative team or anything like that. For every story that someone loves, there's som

It's about that time for a new journal entry, as a lot has happened since last I was seen lurking about this site. I have new Honour Amongst Thieves Questions and Answers podcasts, Amnesia videos, and photos, as well as news on my current job(s), and the results of :iconredeaddie:'s fantastic Louis cosplay. So how about I just start from the beginning?
Brendan Julian was over in Singapore for three weeks towards the end of my summer break, which was responsible for most of my absence. For those who don't yet know, he is the voice for Louis Despatis in my (as of yet) unfinished animation. Much fun was had. As well as dragging him all over the island and introducing him to all manner of wild and weird Asian cuisine, we also spent a lot of time at Universal Studios, Singapore, with my LASALLE besties for Livia's birthday. Brendan got to hug Reese's Pieces

Some of you might already know that me and akreon are working on a new comic. We're still working at it, but I promise it's going to be great! We're testing a completely new art style with a nice grungy look to it which hopefully will nicely complement the story we want to tell you. It's not going to be an ongoing series like OFF-WHITE but a one-shot motion comic made in the Madefire Motion Book Tool (check out MotionBookTool for more info and some really cool comics). The comic will be available at deviantART soon so keep an eye out for more announcements and promo art!
In my free time I've been sketching out a few articles connected with improving one's art skills, taking first steps towards a career in art and trying to get into the art industry. The first article I want to release will concentrate on an issue that touches a lot of young artist - art prices. It will be mostly aimed at those who are ju
VENEZUELAVENEZUELA2 years ago in Personal More Like This
If you do not know, I am Venezuelan. I left my country 13 years ago looking for better opportunities for me and my husband and a better future for my son.
But Venezuela is still in my thoughts and in my heart.
I cannot be silent looking what is happening at my country right now.
The government is violating human rights and young people is dying.
If you know me through my art, you probably are with me in this, because art is a free expression, art is a way to communicate our feelings. Art is democracy, is freedom, is liberty. If you like my art please take a moment watching this video and just share it with all your friends. Please help me to spread the word for a free country, for a free Venezuela. A Venezuela with liberty, justice and peace. I am only asking for your support. Thank you with all my heart.

Otto the Steampunk OctopusI mean, with a title like that, how can you not get excited?Otto the Steampunk Octopus3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Brian Kesinger's already made his mark in the animation world while working for Disney, but he's breaking out of that mold with a story of his own, revolving around an unlikely couple, Victoria and her fabulous pet octopus, Otto, following their daily adventures. They're downright adorable. Brian's work has always impressed me, and this project is no exception.
I can't really articulate my love for these characters... they're so charming, and portrayed in Brian's fresh take on a classic style, I don't know what's not to love - and I just can't wait for his book to come out! So if you haven't already, head over to his page and check out more of his work!
Good Story Advice and the Power of PatienceI recently picked up a copy of Stephen King's the Dark Tower I and while I've yet to read the actual story, the book opens with a thoughtful introduction that contains a number of insightful pieces of commentary. However, the particular part of this opening introduction that really stood out to me was the portion where King mentioned Tolkien's influence on him as a youth and as a writer. He talks about how wildly popular Tolkien's work was with kids growing up around that time, and how reading Tolkien's work eventually inspired his own. In King's own words:Good Story Advice and the Power of Patience3 years ago in Personal More Like This
"But although I read the books in 1966 and 1967, I held off writing. I responded (with a rather touching wholeheartedness) to the sweep of Tolkien's imagination-to the ambition of his story-but I wanted to write my own kind of story, and had I started then, I would have written his. That...would have been wrong. Thanks to Mr. Tolkien, the twentieth century had all the wizards and elves it needed."
And that's a big reas

End of Edit
Ok, so I thought a fitting name would be: Make the story! Or something, because what the contest basically is about, is to use my drawing as inspiration for a story/drawing!
A little bit background story/why:
This is a contest I've wanted to make for AGES! And I've always wished someone else made a contest like this, because I think creating stories is one of the most fun thing to do.
When I make random drawings and illustrations, I always kind of make up a story in my head of what's going on while it appear on the paper. It's like I'm sharing this story with the artwork I'm doing while I'm sketching, inking, painting and working on the picture. It's a very nice process, but I also love to make other people make up their own interpretation, to use their imagination. But what I often notice is that people seem to be too afraid to "mix their story" with what I might have interpreted out if it, in fear of saying so

LAST MAN STANDING - KILLBOOK OF A BOUNTY HUNTERSo, the book is out!LAST MAN STANDING - KILLBOOK OF A BOUNTY HUNTER2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Yes, it's actually in stores now. I know, crazy right?
It's a property I've been working on for the past five years, and started here on DeviantArt. Thanks to the loyal fanbase of it, it was able to be turned into a book first for Heavy Metal. After, it was picked up by Paramount Pictures to be turned into a film, and now picked up by Dark Horse Comics.
I can't tell you how excited I am for you to all finally see it.
But most importantly, to the 2012 Pre-Orders, your books are on the way (TO US!) Once I receive them, I will personalize each one, and send the two signed prints as well. Thank you for your patience, it means the world to me.
To everyone else interested, here are some awesome reviews and link to the book itself.
Much love from Gabriel and I.

This is the Freeborn project, a revolution in movie making and in werewolf films in general. I have been a part of The Pack since the beginning (I was the eighth person to sign up on The Pack forums back in 2004) and have been cheering Anthony on ever since. I, too, had given up hope of this ever seeing film, but it's back! I really think Anthony has a shot now of making this happen. But he needs all of our help. Please visit the link above and watch the video there. If you have no idea what Freeborn is, you should watch this video as well: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TmwMRziIHj0 In fact, you should probably just subscribe to the YouTube channel and watch everything there: http://www.youtube.com/user/FreebornTheMovie

CHARACTER DESIGN CONTESTSo, if you read my journal, I have restarted working on my comic; "Help?"!CHARACTER DESIGN CONTEST2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Long time ago I had a character design contest for the comic where people designed characters that WILL appear in the comic, and since it was so successful(I love them!) and was so fun, I thought HEY LET'S DO IT AGAIN! We will need a lot of characters, so why not get some help? (Hehe.. help... you see what I did there?)
The rules are simple:
- Design a character
- Draw/write the description
- Send me a note about it and BAM you're in!
11th of November
There will be TWO winners, and both winners will get the following:
- Your design will appear in the comic!(With a proper credit, so it's a nice way to promote yourself!)
- An original artwork of your character drawn by Harkill aka ME!
- One pack of stickers made b
My day with a pack of wolfdogs (photos)A month ago, I had the privilege of walking with a pack of eight wolfdogs for about two hours. It was a wonderful and interesting experience! These animals are beautiful both in looks and character. So much energy and intelligence. Always aware of their environment and yet very much in control of themselves. My day with a pack of wolfdogs (photos)2 years ago in Personal More Like This
We also walked with three small/tiny dog breeds and at first I was worried they'd get hurt when the wolfdogs were having their playfights out in the open (safe) country areas. But the wolfdogs never harmed the little dogs. All the wolfdogs ever did was sniff at them and then leave them alone.
The playfights between the wolfdogs would usually take split seconds, and they'd look very violent, but the wolfdogs never actually bit. They merely grabbed the other wolfdogs with their teeth. Not a single injury was caused.
Not saying wolfdogs are easy to keep as pets. In only my two hours of experience I came to agree with what their responsible owners had to say; "A wolf

Legend of Korra ReviewI never watched the original Avatar: the Last Airbender series in its entirety due to both lack of time and the length of the series. I've seen a handful of episodes, but aside from those, a lot of what I know of ATLA comes from spoilers, wikis, and fanworks. There's a chance I may finish the series someday, but for now I'll have to settle for Korra, which brings me to the main point of this entry.Legend of Korra Review4 years ago in Personal More Like This
I recently finished watching the first two episodes of the Legend of Korra and, to be honest, during the initial stages of advertising when they put emphasis on a "hotheaded" young girl with a "fiery personality" that was "ready to take on the world" I was initially unsure how to feel. Male or female, "hotheaded" protagonists are a fairly frequent occurrence in fiction, and a number of times can be pretty irritating as far as leading characters go, in my opinion. A part of me was somewhat apprehensive in how they would handle Korra and over the possibility of her "hotheaded" personality bein

Today, five years later, what had originally been planned as a mere three page short story with the option of branching out aimlessly has turned into an actual story with a driving plot with 147 pages already existing and two books even printed (English version is under working). Happy half-decade birthday, comic!
Man, it's been a long way. And even more still lies ahead, let's see if I can wrap it up before hitting the full decade mark.
Since it's kind of a special occasion, I thought it might be fun to look back to how it became what it is today.
I had wanted to make a comic of my own for something like ten years before Wurr even started, and I had had several started projects in the likes of "this is the greatest idea I've ever had in my life! I must make a comic right now", none of which ever got past their third page. It's funny, before Wurr I always advertised and talked about my comics and
