Korra: Year of the Black Water DragonI spent my saturday in Chinatown here in LA to celebrate Chinese New Year. There was an amazing performance group that did kung fu and even contortionist stuff - it totally reminded me of Avatar (and specifically, Ty Lee). I wish I knew the name of the group cause I'd totally give them a shout out if I did.Korra: Year of the Black Water Dragon4 years ago in Personal More Like This
I'm told this is not only the year of the Dragon, but also the Black Water Dragon. I'm not entirely sure what that means, but I'd love it if anyone could explain it to me. At the very least, it sounds like a multi-hit-dice D&D monster.
Then it dawned on me - Korra is not only from the Watertribe, but a well versed firebender, which we now know (thanks to episode 313, "The Firebending Masters") learned their fighting style from dragons. So it really is apropos that "The Year of the Black Water Dragon" is also "The Legend of Korra"'s year.
Being at the parade really took me back to my days on Avatar. I

Aiight so listen up, I mean this in the most polite way possible, so I really hope no one takes this the wrong way...
Some of you read my fan comic "Zombies" on here, and there are a few things I would like to request due to the
comic becoming more popular. You guys are awesome fans, there are just a few comments that keep returning
and I would like to clear some air:
1. I know how Allen's scar is drawn. It seems that some peeps get mad bothered about the scar going across
his nose and it has been pointed out to me enough times to kind of get on my nerves. I choose to draw it
that way because I like the way it looks, it's my style, and because Zombies is an AU and I can get away
with anything I want. People twist characters all the time to make them fuck, I don't see why I can't
draw a silly scar and just have it let be.
2. Please stop being aggressive towards stoner Lavi. Though most people have been really chill with this concept,
a few have gotten kinda wordy about i

update: Variety reports that Paramount Pictures’ animation division is looking to expand. It seems like they are looking to Nickelodeon for some content, although nothing seems confirmed yet. says Variety.
What do you guys think? Will this/ can this happen "but animated this time"?

Copic Markers and Pony colorsI get a LOT of questions regarding what colors I use where when it comes to the ponies, and I keep saying I'm gonna make a little guide. Well, let's give it a shot.Copic Markers and Pony colors2 years ago in Personal More Like This
For the majority of my covers, I use Copic markers to color. Copics are light-fast, alcohol markers... not unlike a classic school marker, but higher quality. I prefer Copic over other brands primarily for a few reasons: Variable tips (markers, fine, brush, etc), better blending, and they can be refilled! This is the BIG selling point to me... this means you can buy the marker once, and continue to refill. It also means you can custom blend colors should you desire. Copics also guarantee that if you buy Y00 yellow, and then buy another down the line, the colors will match. I've bought the same marker color from other brands and had them not match. I will use other brands here and there for very specific colors or effects, but Copic is 99% of my marker work.
So... when I do a cover or whatever, I do basic ink lines first wit
Don't Be Chicken. Fight The Hate.I try to keep my political views to myself, but you also know that I can't keep quiet when something is really bugging me. Recent statements and actions by certain companies (a youth organization and a restaurant in particular) have me pretty steamed. Especially when they hide behind the term "Family Values."Don't Be Chicken. Fight The Hate.3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Being gay never hurt anybody. However hate and prejudice against someone based on their sexuality most certainly does hurt people. Judging someone solely by whom they choose to love is just as stupid as, oh say, judging someone on the color of their skin. And we're better than that.
Or are we...?
I might not be the best practicing Christian, but I do believe in the life and healing power of Jesus Christ and I absolutely will not believe that He's happy with the things that are being said and done in regards to homosexuals in His name. It's these "Believers" that make me ashamed to be called one too.
So I've created this piece to do my pa
Working with Archie, etcHey all,Working with Archie, etc7 years ago in Personal More Like This
I get lots of questions, or I should say I get the same question a lot, about how to get in with Archie comics and what its like to work with them. I can't answer this question every time I get it, so I've cut and pasted my answers from bumbleking.com and now anyone who can stand to read through all of the stuff below can find out as much as I can remember or am willing to try and relay about how I got into comics. Let me give you the short version here first:
1. If you want to do comics, then PRACTICE DRAWING EVERYTHING, DO NOT STICK WITH JUST PINUPS AND DO SEQUENTIAL PAGES!!!! I cannot overemphasize that.
2. Do your own self published comics and try to sell them at conventions and on the internet. YOU MUST have some kind of internet outlet to show your work. But that's why we're all here.
3. My position as a freelancer with Archie Comics is a rare case of steady work in the comics industry. DO NOT plan to make a fortune doing comics and DO NOT plan to even make a living doin

This attitude is not ok, for many reasons beside it being completely illogical.
1) You don't get to decide who is a geek or not a geek. Period. Geekdom is about acceptance, not rejection. If you're all about Not Liking Other People That Like The Stuff That You Like, you're not a geek, you're a hipster. Who found a pair of glasses.
2) You don't get to decide who is hot and who is not hot. That girl at the con with thick thighs and a little bit of muffin top? She is a perfect 10 in my book, bro. Except that women's bodies aren't up for the judging. Her attractiveness or lack therof does not define her geekiness. The same way that it does not define her social experience. Pretty

This is one year old journal, but I have great news - I just read that in local ZOO, baby arctic wolves were born again!
They still stay in a burrow, but as soon as they get older and leave the den, I will do my best to bring you some photos
Photos in this journal were taken in 2011
Here come the first photos of baby arctic wolves, who were born in ZOO Brno this year
The quality is very bad, they were some 20-30 metres from me, but I think you can still enjoy their cuteness
How I cosplayed the cast of Free! sort-of-tutorialGroup cosplay, forever alone style! Yeah, that's all me.How I cosplayed the cast of Free! sort-of-tutorial2 years ago in Personal More Like This
In this post, I'll get into how I did each one!
Intro, and some bad old pictures
For those of you who have the patience to read for some extra info!
When I started cosplaying, I didn't think makeup was such a major part of it. I was so hesitant to even put eyeliner because I'd think, "This character is a guy, I shouldn't look like I'm wearing makeup!" And I guess I was silly enough to think I looked enough like the characters I chose without doing anything to my face?
I can't find more pictures of my really old cosplays (which is just as well, hahah) from the time I didn't want to use makeup apart from these:
I cosplayed as Haku from Naruto. I don't remember wearing any makeup for this. It doesn't show too well on these pictures but I saw some others where the natural redness of my lips made it look like I was wearing lipstick even if I wasn't. I felt it made me look more feminine than I should. Haku is still a guy after al

over the next few months as announcements are made and new ideas are shared with everyone
in the community.
s the multi dimensional, pop fueled, color exploded dream like haze that was Comic-Con begins
to fully dim and fade from accurate remembrance, I can’t shake the feeling that this year was s

Animation Job FAQ
Q: How can I get a job in animation?
The absolute best thing you can do to get into animation as a career is to go to art school. Not only will you learn how to draw and how to SEE, you will meet people, students and teachers alike, who will give you new perspectives and will likely be the sources of your future jobs. (My first job came from one of my teachers.)
There are several schools that have fantastic animation programs that cover all facets of the atr form. Schools like the one I attended, CALIFORNIA INSTITUTE OF THE ARTS, will teach you animation (2D and 3D,) character design, storyboarding, bac
