Update: The Colors Contest Results are Finally In!!!
OK, yes, it has been quite awhile since this contest ended. There have complications outside the current DLD administration's control which lead to some of the delay - the rest of the time: procrastination. In any case, better late than never, right?
Anyway, here are the winners:

Literature Gallery Restructure UPDATED GALLERY STRUCTURE PROPOSAL - JULY 29Literature Gallery Restructure2 years ago in Literature Features More Like This
Remember that time there was like a giant discussion about how there should maybe be microfiction and flash fiction and short stories and novella and novel-chapter categories and it was like, whoa that's a lot? Well, we had another discussion and decided to go back to the way things were a long time ago: we're proposing to ditch the length-level categorizations for prose. No more figuring out whether your work is flash fiction, a vignette, or a chapter before submitting.
Original journal below the totally relevant GIF. (Everyone loves it when GRRM does that, right? Right?!)
If you haven't browsed Literature lately, it's a mess. Sure, some of it comes from people whose work truly transcends genres (ever read the Library of Congress classification for Gravity's Rainbow?) and some of it comes from how people choose to interpret certain genres.
But a lot of it comes from people having troub

All Our Pretty SongsAs part of the promotion for Big Hero 6, Disney recently created Spotify accounts for all the main characters. You can go onto the website and listen to playlists from Hiro, Baymax, and all the others. (Curious that they all seem to share a mutual love of the Fall Out Boy song from the movie’s soundtrack, but whatever.) I thought “Hey, that’s a pretty cool idea” – you can learn a lot about a character by their favorite songs. So I decided to do the same thing for the Nineteen-Ninety-Something kids. Obviously, Spotify wasn’t a thing in the 1990s, so instead of playlists, think of these as their mix tapesAll Our Pretty Songs2 months ago in Personal More Like This

how to revise poetryThere a decent number of very talented poets on dA and, if you’re willing to dig hard enough, you can find some truly excellent work.how to revise poetry2 years ago in Personal More Like This
If you’re not willing to dig hard, but you still browse around casually in some of the better administered groups, you’ll likely stumble upon a few excellent works and a good number of good works that impress you but that don’t quite make the top grade.
And if you just browse around the poetry on dA, giving no effort to separate the good from the bad, a too-large percentage of what you’ll come across is what I call Conceptually Reductive Adolescent Pettiness, or CRAP for short.
The secret to writing better poetry, whether you’re a beginner or a frequently published poet, is in how well you revise. Like most creative things, a great poem is 10% inspiration and 90% perspiration. The problem with really bad poetry is that it’s neither inspired or well ed

1. Please don't sharpen your talons on the furniture. I've provided a special post for this in the room behind the laundry where you put your weights and gym equipment.
2. I love sushi too, but I prefer it dead before I eat it. I know you love to fish but please don't do this in front of me again. I nearly fainted and you know I've seen some grisly things.
3. I don't need to hear again how your mom use to deep fry things that look like my hamster, and serve them as appetizers.
4. Please don't use my knitting yarn as dental floss. I sent to Palaven for a new supply for you. It will be here in a few days.

Compelled by Fear or Love?"There is no fear in love; perfect love casts out fear. So then, love has not been made perfect in anyone who is afraid, because fear has to do with punishment." 1 John 4:18.Compelled by Fear or Love?2 years ago in Personal More Like This
"But Jesus came and touched them. He said, "Get up. Don't be afraid." Matthew 17:7
Motivation by fear of punishment = immaturity.
Picture this; a three year old and his father are standing by a busy road. The parent says to the child "I want you to look both ways before we cross the street. I also want you to hold my hand." At this, the three year old dashes across the street by himself without looking both ways.
The father follows and finally catches up to the child. In this situation, a lot of parents would say and do something like this; "I told you not to run into the street like that. But you did, so now I am going to spank you."
Why would the parent do something like this? Why not just explain to the child about his anatomy? Why not explain how all of his internal organs work and function together, and how i
Soul Drinkers and Imperial Guards! So today I received a treat in my facebook inbox from old colleague and now-kickass GW artist, Kevin "Kingmong" Chin: http://www.blacklibrary.com/Blog/Art_and_Soul.htmlSoul Drinkers and Imperial Guards!2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Right now, I'm still awaiting a response from the Black Librarians to see if I am allowed to post some higher-res versions of my 3 Soul Drinkers covers here on DA. Till then, this is all they have up on their blog and all I have to show for, for now! For you Soul Drinkers fans out there, I was told not to reference any notable characters of the SD lore and come up with my own designs.
The general brief for the 3 covers was to have a tactical space marine, a captain, and lastly a dreadnought (being awoken). I thought it would be a neat idea to compose all the covers from a similar worms eye angle, not just for theatrics but rather to literally show the life cycle of a Space Marine as he fights and rises through the ranks, leading his brethren and eventually being entombed within a dreadnought to continue his tireless fig

deviantaRT is applying to manage a new Top Level Domain called .art
Top Level Domain (TLD) is the technical name for ".com," ".net," ".org," or ".fr". These TLDs are controlled and issued by a worldwide organization called ICANN, short for the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers. When ICANN announced that it would accept applications for new TLDs, deviantART quickly realized that someone would try to nab ".art."
DeviantART is committed to have the .art TLD in the hands of representatives of the arts; people who know something about the Internet and the way art is presented and enabled by the Internet. Nobody has more experience with this than the deviantART community that we are all building, participating in, and sharing with each other every day.

The brilliance of Derpy HoovesAs many of you know in the first season of "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic" there was an animation mistake resulting in a background character having googly eyes. Internet fans of the show (bronies) latched on to the character and nick-named her Derpy Hooves. The brilliance of Derpy Hooves3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Since the show has become such a huge internet phenomenon, Hasbro has responded to the appreciation by acknowledging the strange character and inserting her into strange places throughout the second season.
In "Feeling Pinky" she appears as the reason for a number of huge objects dropped from the sky.
In "Luna Eclipse" she appears dressed in a Halloween costume of made of paper bags.
In the Rainbowdash and Fluttershy duet song in "May the Best Pet Win" she creepily peeks her head out of the chicken coop.
In "Sweet and Elite" she appears inconspicuously dressed in her paper bag outfit hidden among fancy ponies during Rarity's musical number.
Hasbro's decision to accept the show's unique internet fame and fanbase is a really am
