This icon theme for Gnome provides monochromatic icons for panels, toolbars and buttons and colourful squared icons for devices, applications, folder, files and Gnome menu items. Four themes are included to fit with light or dark themes/panels.

This work is released under the GNU/GPL license. Sources can be downloaded here : [link]

Download the tar.gz file and extract it. In the new folder created, run the ./INSTALL script to choose the distribution logo (Ubuntu, by default) and the Gnome menu icon. If run as root, the script will copy the iconsets to /usr/share/icons to made them available to all users. Some default icons used by Rhythmbox and Dockmanager may be also replaced.
Run ./UNINSTALL as root to restore defaults icons.

Faenza icon theme is available to install for Ubuntu users via a PPA repository. View the README file for instructions and a list of known issues.

As the file is the too big for DA submission policy, you can download the archive form the dedicated Google Code page: [link]

  • Ubuntu 11.10: the Unity panel has a strange behavior with some icons compared with the previous version (and Gnome 2 panels of course), especially with user menu and battery state icons. You might use one of the to new themes instead of the classic ones: Faenza-Ambiance is suitable with dark panel and toolbars (inherits Faenza-Darkest theme), Faenza-Radiance with light panel and controls (inherits Faenza theme).

  • Some applications are configured to always use the same icon regardless of the selected theme. To display the Faenza icon, edit as root the /usr/share/applications/application_name.desktop file and locate the line beginning with 'Icon='. Replace the fullpath icon name by the one of the Faenza icon (usually, it's the name of the application itself) without the extension.
Don't forget to make a backup before changing one of those files.
E.g. Vim desktop file is /usr/share/applications/gvim.desktop
Some desktop files can be located in /usr/local/share/applications or in your ~/.local/share/applications folder (e.g. Steam desktop file is somewhere in ~/.local/share/applications/wine).
Here is a partial list: emacs23, gcolor2, bluefish, hardinfo, setroubleshoot, gufw, pithos, vim, rssowl, netbeans, gazpacho, guake, all commercial games, etc

  • If you want to use the new Gnome contact application, edit its desktop file (/usr/share/applications/gnome-contacts.desktop) to use the specific (and beautiful) icon named gnome-contacts ;)

Faience is a Work In Progress that include GTK3, GTK2, Gnome-Shell and Metacity themes and an icon theme based on Faenza.

As the file is too big to being downloaded to DeviantArt, you can get it from the dedicated Google Code page: [link]

This theme is in early development stage:
- Currently, it focusses mainly on Gnome 3 / Gnome-Shell. A support for Unity is provided since 0.2 trough Faience-Claire icon theme.
- Lots of icons are missing, thus it heavily depends on Faenza. Be sure to install it.

Licence: GPLv3

If you like my work (or to encourage me to draw an icon for your favorite application), please consider a small Paypal donation at ;)

Extract the zip file and put the 'Faience', 'Faience-Azur', 'Faience-Ocre' and 'Faience-Claire' folders inside your ~/.icons directory. Use gnome-tweak-tool extension to select your Faience theme.

Launchpad PPA
Faience GTK, Gnome-shell and icon themes are available to install via a PPA repository. Open a terminal and run :
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:tiheum/equinox
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install faience-theme faience-icon-theme

- Changelog-

version 3.4.4:
  • Featured
  • Revised Icons: R
  • Fixes: Fixed issue #54:…
  • New Icons: Customizer, Transmageddon, Bomi, Picard, Opera Beta, Kodi, MEGA Sync, Popcorntime, Plex, R Studio, Nemiver.
Notes: If the icons don't show up in your menus make sure the .desktop file points to the icon, e.g: Inside Python2.7 .desktop file locate the line Icon= and replace the value with "python" or "python2.7" (without the quotes).
So it looks like this:
  • Icon= python - This looks for the SVG file and uses it.
  • Icon=/usr/share/pixmaps/python3.3.xpm - This forces the ugly pixelated python icon.
This is true for those menu entries/applications that don't display the correct icon even though the icon is indeed available in the Nitrux theme. If it still doesn't display the icon please report it as missing, thanks!.

Candy icon theme is created by Jonian Guveli and Olibia Tsati. After making Erectus icon theme which had quite a success on gnome-look and Jonian's participation in the Humanity icons, we decided to put our effort at the creation of this amazing icon theme.

You can visit our Launchpad page and follow the project progress or report bugs. [link]

After receiving many requests, I decided to make the elementary theme for Pidgin. The original was built for Empathy, but even this is very clean and integrated into the interface. There are some improvements concerning the transparency of the icons, I will update also the empathy version soon.

Criticism welcome.

Installation *nix:
Extract the theme into ~/.purple/themes.

Installation Windows:
Extract the theme into: C:\Documents and Settings\$USER\Applications Data\.purple\themes
Installation Windows 7:
Extract the theme into: C:\Users\$USER\AppData\Roaming\.purple\themes

Windows Theme Download [PNG of the first version]

Update 1!

Hello! I have just release a new (let me say :D) awesome version of elementary pidgin.
This version is compatible with dark theme and many icons was totally re-styled!
Let me know what you think and stay tuned, a similar version (I think better) version will be release for empathy!

Update 2!
Our talented mate Nicolas from Argentina a few days ago released a new docky's helper, where you can controll you status with a righ click on your mouse. I decided to revamp the original icon from elementary theme for fits with this new docky feature and I modified the script for aim on svg and not png for a better rendering. The result? you give me the answer!
When you will download the archive you'll find two archives: (the theme already released) and (the real news). For the first the instructions are the same of everytime; for the second, you only need to extract the archive where you want and, after, double click on and select run.

You *NEED* latest docky ppa!

The iconset now also works on Gnome 2.29.x.
Please feel free to report any bug you'd find.

FFW [Fast Forward] iconset.

Based on my other iconset, hydroxygen, it features the customization script to change the folder colours.
It also features a new dock icons style, with token icons flavour.

Before doing anything, please take a look to the customization infos within the archive.

How to install
- download the .zip archive on your desktop.
- extract the archive [the way you want]
- you'll find another compressed file, in .tar.bz2 file extension
- you can drag&drop that file onto the System > Preferences > Theme window, or you can extract that too and move the ffw folder to the path: ~/.icons. To do this, from a terminal type:
cd to dir where you have the ffw folder
mv ffw ~/.icons

Thanks to StingBL and alecive for their useful customization scripts.
