is this how it is to fly?the sleepy storm of your aeroplane fingers
hurricaning gentle rushes along the tips of my ear flesh--
no, i did not say stop
as a child in your arms, I wish for more wishes
too few are the moments we glide beneath our eye sheets
tucking our tears into slippery sleep
when does wait turn into savour?
jester flowers dance jangly yellow beneath my feet and i feel
the gentle grumble of the wind's distaste through my ear pipes
along my jaw; my straining neck
a furore of bent elbows and outstretched arms tasting cloud whispers
on my cheeks, on my lips, and my hair no longer obeys the law
is this how it is to fly? arms wicked propellers and spinning
turning running sideways centripetal;

sixty minutes of sixty tickings
in this hour is every word
youve ever said
i have an old wrist watch my father gave me
i say old, because five years is a long time when it is a quart of your life.
i use it to count you.
staring at the straight lines and reflecting the tubed light into a dancing circle on the wall
a spotlight for an ant
i imagine a woven straw hat and cane
there was always dancing wasnt there?
there was, but it was never us that were dancing. its just a configuration.
you know, of talk.
something we forgot all about.
perhaps it wasnt forgetfulness but forced ignorance.
you know, being stubborn, like stains you can never get out in the morning.

you stroke tomorrows downstream
you are a word i suddenly remembered the meaning for
misusing it this whole time,
i feel such a fool.
im caught in an updraft of your hello
the easy way that smile turns into my name
turns to a frown
im seducing the last traces of your nonchalance
beckoning him out with promises
i sense your lips do lie, but we both know
a kiss can last forever and
forever can end with a kiss.

For a given value of love, this
is your song –
Let's run away.
I have bags, a ticket,
sex on my tongue, 8
new ways to say
I don't mind I can't
ever go home.
I don't mind, for a given value
of love, I can't ever go home.
Let's walk on the sun.
Heard a song once, said
it can be done and I don't
trust those stoners but I'd
walk across coals for God,
God makes the sun flowers, so
for a given value of hot,
I'd say you're the one.

A Dreamer BlessingMama, I met a dreamer.A Dreamer Blessing8 years ago in Free Verse More Like This
All the glass I'd broken, I thought
dreamers shy from edges. But in between
the cracks - it's in between the cracks
where you break your mother's back
for how she let you become
such a dreamer - in between
the cracks I found someone, Mama,
who won't shy from ledges
I hear the heart grows callused.
You wear it on your palm and heave
against the ground, you and your novel
ways to fly. So what comes from you
has passport, but what goes in breaks skin -
guerrila love, no trust,
ash to dust, blood lust,
in which to recover
let's never go home.
Let's never go home.
This dance lives in the aether,
let's breathe what we can't
swallow, let's swim when we
can't fly - let's spin ourselves
what casing God allows
for now, and try not to break.
Let's promise to leave
when we can't stand.
Mama, I met a dreamer.
I glued up all the glass and built
these ledges. But I have no wings to fly.

Why should I hide these feelings and thoughts from the world? I am not ashamed or embarassed by my feelings
So although I don't have any beautiful lines of poetry to make your heart melt and sing with joy and I don't have any dazzling gifts to give you. I will do my best to make my ordinary every day words do the same.
I was thinking of you today; how your smile warms my heart.. and how your laugh makes me smile. How I get lost in your eyes each time I look into them, how your voice calms the storms in my heart and quiets the voices in my head. Because when you speak, You have my full attention and nothing will break it. Because there is nothing more important in my world than you. Nothing at all.
And while lost in my thoughts for you, I couldn't help but wonder..
How long will we be together?
Will we be happily married?
Will we have children together?
Long walks and talks about our lives?

throat, standing on the front lines?
I love your body, don't you love your body?
And all the dead rebound off
the ground, and say, "Tell her to
stop, Kyla, tell her to come live
on this side of the line, where there is
sparse shelling and time for tea between.
Tell her the world is made for dirt and water
which take care of their own - they take
care of their own in the end. No holding
the world, tell her, no carrying it on
your shoulders like that's what it means
to be strong." I was on the field, my love,
when they said, "Tell her
it's her that has gravity, she already
calls the earth to her knees."

You gnawed on the plastic wrap
and forced my chest open
so you could taste my heart beat
before deciding whether to chew, or spit
me out like a pellet gun aiming straight for my skull.
That is how the wire snapped, your teeth clenched
around fresh love like the Sunday roast your mother cooked
when a girl called Anna left you –
'I want to be the one in control' you say
as you count the wrinkles below my hair line
and press your knuckle lips onto mine.

For a sound.
But nothing ever happened,
And no one ever came.
We waited for him.
But he never came.
A long plane ride in bitter silence,
Left alone with a crushing reality.
He was never coming home.
And we realize that no amount of wishin will bring him back to us.
But still we wait.
Wondering if he watches us or turns away in shame?
Wondering if he's proud of who we became?
Wondering if he will visit our dreams anymore?
And we wait in silence.
For a sound.

the ocean spray and moonlit tides just to feel
your bewildered irises lock with mine and your breath
rush through my tilted axis.
The smudges from your half unread
atlas cut my scars in half, and Ill swear
to your unexplored oceans that I can find the needle
in your haystack and bring you back home.
I saw civilizations rise and fall through
my peephole in the asteroid belt of my backroom window,
and never before have I been so engrossed
in the simplicity of daisy chains and hopscotch
markings and carved initials in the spines of trees.
I always meant every syllable and when you
lost the fight with those dilapidated arms, I was the
wind that blew you beyond the city walls you despised
so much, into matching breathing patterns and unfolding
Ill be waiting to catch your fingertips this sunset.

exact color of your eyes.
And I can't remember the way you said
"I love you" when you meant it. (Did you ever?)
And I'm so sick of love songs saying
don't let me go, don't let me go,
when I'm not the one that's leaving.
Oh please, oh please don't leave me.
Yeah, like you're going to listen.
You're not here anymore.
And I forgot how my heart used to race
and how my whole being shivered
when I knew nothing of heartbreak.
But my heart won't be beating tonight.
and it won't be beating tomorrow.
And not until I am able to
promise myself eternity.
Cause every bird has to fall
to spread it's wings and fly up high.
And I'll be no bird -
I'll be an angel.
