Do you want to create a character but don't know where to start? Maybe you just need some tips for a more realistic character? Here at Darqx' easy
used carcharacter tips, we can help!
Let's begin shall we? I'll be using the Hedone High boys as my examples.
Tip #1: Hai baby, what's your concept?
If you were looking for a date this pick-up line would probably get you slapped in the face, but if you were looking to develop a character and shove them in a setting with other characters than it's a pretty handy way to begin. To put it in a longer sentence: What is the point of your character in relation to the storyline and/or other characters?
American Comics, Manga...AND WAR!This is a major turning point in the history of comics, World War II. This period of time not only changed comics as we knew them, but also other areas in graphics such as propaganda posters. Now mid to late 1930's we've seen the birth of the modern comic book. Due to the war as well we're also now seeing the birth of war comics. An obvious example of this as I'm sure many of you have already guessed is Captain America Comics in 1941 (before American involvement in the war). Captain America was created by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby who worked for Timely Comics, which of course has now become Marvel Comics. He gained amazing popularity and is often fighting the Axis powers in World War II.American Comics, Manga...AND WAR!3 years ago in Art Features More Like This

So this is the skinny.
First and foremost, we have gone through my caps, and I have had a variety restored.
The only one that should have been restored but wasn't, was not restored because it had been deleted for too long. So, for some of you, it may not be possible to restore your wrongfully-deleted caps. Yes, there is a time limit on your removed deviations for restoration, and it's apparently a short one. May 31st was when I first began my ticket, when said cap was first removed, and it was properly answered well after the time limit had expired (almost two months after I began the ticket). Isn't that alarming? We all know how long it takes the Help Desk to answer tickets, especially when it comes to policy inqui

Small Hints how to get views, faves etc.For a lot of you it might be nothing new, but since a lot of you are either new on dA or not experienced with something like "strategies" to get views, comments and faves for their works i (your most favourite dA group guy :icongbk666: ) thought i write up a few hopefully useful hints for you.Small Hints how to get views, faves etc.3 years ago in Personal More Like This
1. Upload as many drawings / photos etc. as you can. Some of you would argue now that it can be counterproductive if the deviations are not good, but i come to that point in #2
2. Join Groups. A Ton of them.. at least 15-25 . And submit your stuff to them on a regular base. BUT only the things you consider by yourself as "good" . The rest is for your gallery only, and interesting for those deviants who want to see sketches, WIP's etc.
Always care about the theme of the dA groups of course and about their rules. If you are not Alvin Lee, Artgerm or Genzoman or have over 100k views on your profile already and over 400-500 watchers at least you really need dA groups to g

Rembrandt's Self PortraitsCountless artists have used themselves as models. This, a lot of times, comes out of necessity and convenience, but there are plenty of other reasons why an artist might model for themselves.Rembrandt's Self Portraits3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Rembrandt van Rijn is the first artist I think of when talking about self portraits. (That could be because he's my favorite painter, but whatever ) Some sources say he made 60 self-portraits, others claim he did over 90. Whatever the number, it was a LOT.
The exact reason Rembrandt painted himself so often is unknown, but it has been speculated that perhaps, since he was struggling a lot of his life, he was the cheapest and most readily-available model; he often painted himself as someone else. Or maybe he was doing self-portraits to express his feelings at the time; he sometimes painted himself with a serious look on his face. Another theory is that self-portraits helped artists to be more well-known. There was no Facebook back then, you know. I

As some of you people know, I am a fan of Kill La Kill and have been riffing on the "uniforms" of the rebel group Nudist Beach with crossover characters.
As you can see from the recruiting poster, there is a basic uniform design but you can customize it - as I have - for the various characters I have drawn.
Even the 4 Devas have their very own version of a Nudist Beach uniform so there really aren't any limits except that you can't technically be wearing clothes - you can only wear accessories such as hats, belts, straps, s

It's in fact a really frequented-asked-question I get, over and over.
I thought writing a blog post about it could explain it, at least make my life easier in the future when someone ask.
A sensible topic... And you, why are you using mostly open-source ?

For those of you with a compulsion to message artists all of the time, I decided to compile a list of all the ways you can be sure that any new people you decide to talk to will block you as quickly as possible! These tips will help you keep a neat and tidy buddy-list.
1: Don't bother ever actually liking/favoriting/commenting/critiquing any of their work. Don't PM them or strike up a conversation on their main page. This might make them feel like you have common ground with them. Heck, they might even be comfortable around you. No, you must strike without them ever actually having an inkling of who you are and bombard their instant messenger without warning.
2: Find an artist who doesn't update more than once a week. This means they have a busy schedule and have little patien

TO THE ASPIRING ARTISTS...."The advice I like to give young artists, or really anybody who'll listen to me, is not to wait around for inspiration. Inspiration is for amateurs; the rest of us just show up and get to work. If you wait around for the clouds to part and a bolt of lightning to strike you in the brain, you are not going to make an awful lot of work. All the best ideas come out of the process; they come out of the work itself. Things occur to you. If you're sitting around trying to dream up a great art idea, you can sit there a long time before anything happens. But if you just get to work, something will occur to you and something else will occur to you and something else that you reject will push you in another direction. Inspiration is absolutely unnecessary and somehow deceptive. You feel like you need this great idea before you can get down to work, and I find that's almost never the case." - Chuck CloseTO THE ASPIRING ARTISTS....2 years ago in Personal More Like This

PE: The power of contextA picture is indeed "worth a thousand words", a complex idea can be conveyed with a single still image. This quote also characterizes one of the main goals of visualizations, namely making it possible to absorb large amounts of data quickly. In our perception of artworks we see every day, some get closer to our hearts than others. Imagine a painting, strong and powerful, technique showing an experienced, steady hand, needing nothing but a pair of eyes to enter one's sensitive soul. Are you satisfied with what you see? I wouldn't count on that, but I would be quite sure that after a while your head fills with numerous questions.PE: The power of context2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
On the contrary, your favorite artist publishes their recent work and you, as always, immediately love it. If, however, you would allow your mind a little exercise, you could clearly see that if this work was shown to you at random, under different circumstances and you would not know the author, hardly would it catch your interest for a second.
