A Christmas MiracleOn the first day of Christmas, I spent all day breathing on the window and tracing familiar faces in the fog.A Christmas Miracle6 years ago in Short Stories More Like This
On the second day of Christmas, my mother sent to me every unpleasant phone call about failed job interviews or bad grades or having just not been in contact for too long and these I threw away without much regret. Each cried out in furious ones and zeros as they shattered against the base of the garbage bin.
On the third day of Christmas, I observed the graceless gate of an orphaned child, like walking on marbles or faulty animatronics. A scale model geriatric.
On the fourth day of Christmas, an ex-lover gave me old photographs and letters filled with lustful words, wasps in their nest, and all the self-image issues she managed to create wrapped in purple lace and packaged lovingly in an old shoe box labeled Hush Puppies, which I could have taken as a metaphor for something, but didnt.
On the fifth day of Christmas, I was charged with two counts of assault an

Oh God, why did I agree to this? Sasuke thought, She'll probably break something important, she's such a ditz.
First thing I'm gonna do is break something IMPORTANT!! Naruta thought. Her nose tickled slightly. "Ah-CHOO!!" she covered her mouth with her hands.
"Whoa, bless you." Sasuke said. "Do you usually sneeze that loudly?" Naruto blinked and giggled slightly.
"Heh, no." she said. "Well, I won't touch your hand, since I sneezed. Lead the way." Sasuke shrugged and continued to lead the way. Naruta yawned.
"We're here," Sasuke said. "Home, not so sweet, home." he unlocked the door. He walked into his house, still neat. He sighed in relief, and threw his book on the couch. Naruta looked around. It seem lonely, and there was a kind of heaviness in the air. She loo

"No one is dying on my watch Kimmy! We'll be too busy breaking your legs!" FireBrandi retorted, throwing another fire blast at the small army. "How long before Kai and Will are ready to fight?" She asked Angelina.
Angelina's brows were furrowed in concentration. Kneeling down she was practically hidden behind the massive form of Kai Steel, with Willpower on the other side of her. "A little longer. I am able to remove the toxin that has made them vulnerable."
Kai Steel stirred, "oohh... I really don't like mental illusions."
"Glad to have you back Kai, how about you Willpower?"

In spite of the town's tiny size, to her it seemed like an entire country that she was forced to trek across. She ran through instinct, not stopping to catch her breath, not bothering to glance over her shoulder. She knew she was being followed. She knew the alarm had been raised. When they found their bodies, she had long gone. She had to answer the call of that which existed just beyond the streets of this, a tiny port on this peninsula, its name and the name of the town she did not know of. She heard her heart beating fast in her ears, a mixed sense of determination and panic driving her actions. Her legs felt numb but she kept running. She knew she was in different clothes than before, but she didn't bother to stop and see what they were. Her black hair fell about her eyes and she brushed it away as best as she could. Sirens were going off now. There was no way she'd be able to escape them on land. She needed to return to the place she had grown up around all her lif

She is the one who put out the call, it is her duty to tell the people who answered, the people who could be putting their lives at risk, why they are here and what they face. They were gathered in a meeting room in The Guardians' HQ. The assembled heroes scattered among the seats. Polygirl was operating the computer controlling the video display, and holding a box of popcorn for the show. FireBrandi stepped behind the podium. She gave a sigh and started floating up so she could be seen over the podium.

From the outside the factory did not seem to be anything unusual. Bardak's sensors did not find anything either. The locked doors were easy to get past, letting them into a dingy, littered reception area. Kai Steel led the way down the short hall into the main area. Through the double doors they found a massive work area. Old machinery and conveyor system lined the wall on the right. Numerous large crates and steel containers scattered the floor, dusty and corroded, along with a couple fork lifts. A catwalk circled the room at about fifteen feet up, with presumably a manager's office at the far end overlooking operations. Below that was a large hallway leading to the next section of the building.
They carefully crossed the room, ready for attack from any direction. Part way across an open area a red glow appeared among them. A device, like a black barrel with red spider

Not in this case, however, as the woman was running far faster than even the motor vehicles that roamed the city streets. The female had a slim build with muscular legs that were built for running. She wore a green skin-tight uniform with a yellow lightning bolt in the front. Red goggles protected her eyes from the flow of air which rushed toward her at an incredible rate of speed. Running made her feel alive. There was no greater feeling of exhilaration to her. The air parting as it hit her uniform left a tingling feeling on her private parts which made her face smile all the more. For the woman known as Slipstream, this was a far greater feeling than sex. The most beautiful girl I ever met.
Sometimes I didn't understand or didn't get.
She looked to all with unbound joy
Seemed life was a puppet, it was her toy.
At least this is what everyone did think.
But if you'd look beyond and never blink.
You'd see the cuts tell different truth.
Life not a toy, more like rotten fruit
No one to talk to, no one to see.
How could it come to this? How could it be?
The pain and suffering reached new heights
the days were bad, but no match for nights.
Nothing to do, no ways to vent
Her living will broken, the rest started to bend.
Although so many things she wanted to say.
If you knew her true, time was ticking away.
A stream of tears had hit the ground.
For morning past her body was found.
Still in her hands the pills she took.
But for a note they dared not look.
"No one did understand, no one could ever see.
This fucking life is killing me".
Her parting words, her eyes now at close.

Can't really place the blame.
I'd like to search you out
But you've driven me insane
The parts you can see,
Are the only one I'd show
Who I am, you'll only meet
If I can learn to understand and grow.
It's not so bad when you're gone,
It's actually quite nice...
It's when you come back that I realize
That this is how I pay your price.
We're two different people now,
If only we could be the same,
Then maybe perhaps we could stay,
Then I'd love you forever
And we could finally call it quits
To this little game.

Unhappily Ever After
And so it finally came to be,
I hoped this day would never emerge,
but "Hope" can only do so much,
as I discover it was inevitable.
All is lost, all is gone;
I could never feel more miserable,
sitting alone in the dark,
with no one by my side...
Unrightful enemies still there,
laughing at my expense,
they believe I have no heart,
but I do - it's now in pieces.
I've napped several times already,
trying to sleep over the pain,
but dreaming is temporary relief,
before I reawake into the world of hate...
I'm back down to square zero,
with very little spirit left in me,
who knows if I were destined to be lonely,
I could live unhappily ever after...

As life slips by,
Like waves upon the sea shore,
I stand in the sand,
Afraid to let the water touch my feet,
Because I might get swept up in the current,
And taken away from my memories of you.
Watching the rain fall from my window,
Longing to fall with it,
To twirl in the drops of water,
And forget myself in the chilled air and darkening sky.
Tears drip from my longing eyes,
Like frothy waves and sprinkles of rain,
So wet, and pure.
To fall like rain, and be swept away by the current,
To nowhere, to somewhere, to anywhere… but here.
To let go,
Would be to forget.
To forget all that is wrong and hurt,
To forget this pain that still lingers inside of my soul.
Yet, I am afraid the current might take away the good memories as well,
And that as we fall with the rain,
That you might slip just beyond my reach.
Yet that is how loss is.
Because I would rather take the chance of falling,
When I know that we will always be close,
Even when you are just beyond my reach.

Auntie J and Uncle Agner have made the attic comfortable for me. From my window I can see hills fattening in the distance and the river veins away from them -- winds right through the pasture.

She tells me eat right cause she wants her new baby healthy and she heaps enough food for two grown-ups on my plate; I eat as much as I can, but it all comes up anyway.

Mother is still too upset to write; I hope you understand. I'm glad you're settled in.
Agner only owns the pasture,
he hasn't a breath of livestock
His job is on the road,
so I'm alone with Auntie
