At 25, almost half of Riikka's life has been spent with being sick and visiting doctor after doctor. She would surely have better things to do. There's nothing she hates as much as doctors and she has nightmares about visits where she's humiliated. That hasn't been unusual. Even now, doctors treat her condescendingly, like a kid. It took over a decade to obtain a diagnosis.
There have been dozens and again dozens of doctors over the years, neurologists, opthalmologists, infection specialists and rheumatologists. It certainly feels like they couldn't care less what happens to Riikka. They're constantly trying to push physiotherapy, something Riikka has been doing for years, even though she doesn't have much mobility left any longer.
Riikka is sick with something many doctors don't even believe in and that officially doesn't exist in Finland, even though it has been included in WHO's official ICD-10 for a long time. In many countries it's known as myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME). In Finla

I am telling you Zuko something is up. Sokka told his royal friend as he took another swing of his drink.
Well care to elaborate a little? The fire lord asked as he slowly took a sip of his drink enjoying the smooth taste.

"How did you do that!?" They'd been on the move most of the night, avoiding pursuit, but Aang couldn't keep his questions to himself any longer.
Ganto checked to make sure the coast was clear. "I don't know what you're talking about."
Jun was the only one out of breath but it didn't take her long to recover. "Are you insane? You could have killed us both back there!"
"We're alive. I must not be too crazy."
Aang was still having trouble reconciling what he'd seen with what he accepted as normal human ability. Ganto's display of one armed aerial gymnastics followed by at least a thirty foot drop to solid stone was bordering on the impossible. It was making his head hurt just thinking about it.
"Looks like we lost 'em. Same old Fire Nation." When Ganto grinned the white scar on his chin stood out against his tan.
"Then this is where I say goodbye," Jun said, turning to Ganto with a threatening gleam in her eye. "You should know; I don't let a target escape once I set my sights

I don't deserve to fucking live.

The asphalt is alive. Working in a gas station teaches you this: it is alive. It breathes. It has its own body heat, rising from the road, blurring your vision, obscuring its ugly face, serving as a veil.
I love cars. But like everything you love, they require money. So at the time I was working at a gas station outside of town. Never seen the owner of the place. Some creepy millionaire probably. There was an old graveyard in the back. Mercedes and BMWs came at night. I didn't care what they did. As long as the head of the gas station paid me. The less you speak the more you earn. The less you speak the more you live.
The asphalt never speaks. The asphalt is god. The roar of dust and diesel is its chant. The smell of burnt tire its incense. Skid marks its holy book. And through the blur came its priest. I still remember it clearly. A bike, black and chrome, shining. He was clad in priest's clothing. Collar and all. He got off the bike. Sunlight reflected from the shades. Long hair. He

Sokka closed his eyes and drifted off to sleep. Almost immediately, he went from dull blackness to a world filled with colour. As he often did in his dreams, he returned to the North Pole. He didnt exactly know why he did, but once again he was here tonight. Maybe it was the fact that it was like home to him. Maybe the fact that the landscape was hard and brutal, yet calming and peaceful, depending on which way you looked at it.
He took a deep breath, before taking a single step forward into the crystal city. One thing that always made him think is that whenever he came here in his dreams, the city was always empty. It felt so different without the people he remembered living there. Because even though the temperature was freezing all the time, the people gave this city such incredible warmth. He remembered what Aang had told him once, its not the buildings that make a city, its the people who live in them.
He walked along the imagined

If Toph was ever completely honest with someone, it was with herself. She didn't lie, she didn't try to make things seem any better or worse than they were, and she didn't try to twist her perception of people to fit her own personal needs. And she was just as honest with herself about Sokka: of this she was sure. He reminded Toph a bit of herself (and she wasn't yet certain that it was a good thing).
So, naturally, if Toph knew Sokka for exactly who he was, and no one else, there must be something else wrong with her. It could not be normal for a heart to pound whenever a boy was near; for her cheeks to burn and her stomach to turn cartwheels, in a sensation that was not unpleasant. Most of all, Toph was positive that it could not be natural to think of another person as she thought of Sokka, as more than a personsomeone she might like to spend the rest of her life with. Well, not the rest of her life, actually, b

Hold in them all the things he's afraid to speak.
Speak slow and soft with quiet words and secret smiles.
Be patient and careful with his labyrinth thoughts.
Write something beautiful and painful,
that shows the way you see him.
Remind him when to breathe.
When he is floating and lost,
take his hand and touch his soul.
Wrap yourself in something he can hold
to save him from himself.
Let him go.
And he will always love you.

When Toph had stormed out of the trade talks, Sokka was sure she would return within the hour.
Three hours after her outburst, he was still searching the Northern Water Tribe for the earthbender, and he was getting desperate. A whole host of situations played through his mind. She was blind on the snow and ice, and all it would take was a single misstep for her to have fallen into one of the canals. He'd lived in the South Pole long enough to know how frigid the water was. No one could survive long in it, and when you added in the fact that Toph couldn't swim
Sokka grabbed another passing tribesman by the front of his parka. "Have you seen a blind girl come through here?"
The man, too startled to speak, simply pointed to his left, indicating a small alleyway. Sokka let him go and ran down it, praying that he would find a perfectly fine Toph at the end of it.

Captains Sokka of the Water Tribe and Toph Bei Fong of the Earth Kingdom. Their exploits were legendary amongst the tavern keepers of the Fire Nation Capital.
Mostly because they tended to wreck everyplace they walked into.
So when they first walked past me and into the Dragon's Den, I could scarcely believe it was the same duo I'd heard so much about. She was so small and unassuming; he was short and still had the gangliness of youth about him, rather than the muscle and build of adulthood.
Two hours later, however, I had new appreciation for the phrase 'looks may be deceiving.'
Things had started out quietly enough. They came in, sat at a table, and ordered their drinks. Convinced that they weren't causing any trouble, I returned to my post outside the door. People came and left, and it was shaping into a normal night.
A loud crash from inside told me that my night at the door had ended. As I opened t

Sokka gave a weak laugh, which quickly turned into a cough as he shifted his arm gingerly.
You do know that, right? That youre an absolute idiot moron, I mean.
Not helping, Toph, he told her evenly.
Not trying to help, she shot back, then gave another half-stilted roar of frustration. You stupid, idiotic, moronic fool! Why did you have to go and get yourself hurt like that, you dope? Are you seriously too stupid to know that getting hurt is a bad thing?!
But you beat me up all the time, he reminded her blankly.

What are you grumbling about, Sokka? Zuko asked as he leaned against a wall.
That! he gestured wildly at his sister and Aang as they trained near one of the Western Air Temples fountains. Cant she see that!
Frankly, I dont see that either. Toph drawled from her perch on one of the temples fallen stone pillars. Unchastened, Sokka paced in front of her as he explained.
How much Aang likes her! Look at him- hes blushing like crazy every time she comes close! His back to her, Sokka missed the sudden flare of pink in her cheeks. However, Zuko didnt. He frowned.
Wow, Sokka. Brilliant observation.
Hey, Im serious! Somewhat hurt at her tone, he began ticking off events. When we first met, he couldnt keep his eyes off her! And he was always making these gifts for her!

Mai was not happy.
Her clothes were drenched, her hair hung limp around her face, and water had long since soaked all the way through her good leather boots and was now squelching between her toes with every irritated step through her slowly flooding prison.
There had to be something useful, some forgotten item or hidden lever that would stop the pouring water or maybe even a secret passage to get them out. Mai refused to believe that a deathtrap had been built below the palace district without anyone complaining about it. But then again the former Fire Lords, unlike Zuko, weren't all about love and rainbows.
She sighed. Again. And glared up at the opening far above her. Odds were good that the Raven Hawks had posted sentries to watch for any escape attempts. It wouldn't be a problem if she could only find a way up there to deal with them, and then find a way to haul Sokka out before he drowned.
She cast a glace over at his prone form and tried not to feel bad about the f

Sokka looked at Toph across the fire. She was holding her knees close to her chest and looking like she was lost in thought. "Sure, Toph. You know I would never laugh at you." She shot him an accusatory glance. "I would laugh with you, not at you. They're two different things."
She shrugged. "Whatever. Just forget it."
"No, I'm not going to forget it." He stood up and walked across the campsite to sit beside her. "You can ask me anything." He put his arm around her small shoulders, as if to add emphasis to his words.
Toph bit her bottom lip. "Well," she began, then stopped to take a deep breath. "I just wanted to know...what do the stars look like?"
Her voice trailed off to almost inaudible level, so Sokka wasn't quite sure he'd heard right. "You want t

Suki put another log on the campfire and checked the bubbling pot of rice porridge. She added a few berries to sweeten the meal and tried to think of something to say to her sullen companion.
"When I was a little girl, my mother used to make jook for me when I was feeling bad."
Toph flicked a stone and sent it bouncing off into the forest, startling Hawky from his perch. "I've only had jook at funerals."
Suki frowned and spooned some of the porridge into a bowl to let it cool. The two of them had been dancing around a conversation they both knew was coming but Suki was in no hurry to get down to it.
"Well, I guess I'll go check up on him." Suki rose to her feet but Toph stopped her.
"I'll do it." Toph took the bowl and held out her hand for the spoon. "You've already done enough."
Suki relinquished the spoon and sat back down, feeling strange and empty inside. It might have made more sense for the one of them

Katara rushed after him as he boarded Jee's ship and headed to the shared sleeping quarters to gather their things. Momo flew around the room, gathering bits of rope and dead bugs and anything else he could get his little hands on, mimicking Aang's packing job.
"I told you, after you left I ran into Jun and then got caught up in this whole crazy mess."
"With a pirate." It wasn't a question, and Aang didn't have to turn around to know that Katara's arms were crossed in disapproval.
"Yeah, but that's not the point." He spun on his heel to face her. "And he wasn't bad like those other pirates we met. He was different."
Aang threw up his arms. "I dunno, there was just something about him. Something familiar. Familiar but different. Does that make sense?"
"And then we sort of infiltrated a Fire Navy base."
Katara put a hand to her forehead and pulled it away, emphatically. "I don't know what yo
