Devious Journal EntryThat doesn't look right. Something off about her eyebrows. No...maybe it's her forehead. Nope...it's her hairline. Gotta be. It's too low. Or too high maybe. CRAP! Something's off, but I cant figure out what. You know...it could be her jaw line. Too wide. Nope. Now it's too narrow and her face looks long. Put that back, but the chins definitely too big. Makes her look manish. Yeah, that's it..that's working! But...now her mouth looks a little weird. The lips are too big or something. Damn it, why did I try to make her smiling? I can never get that to look right. But she needs to be smiling..it works for the piece. You know what, fuck it I'm starting over.Devious Journal Entry3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Man, that's one of the best figures I've ever done! The pose is perfect and I really got some nice energy in it. Its always a great to nail a figure in the quick gesture drawing. Now, I just need to draw the face on there and we're gold. An hour later.....
Son of a mother, that face gave me hell! Didn't think I'd ever get it to look r

Nickelodeon's changing job requirements...Looks like Nickelodeon is easing up on their usual policy of 3-5 years experience needed for storyboarding jobs. I know that always frustrates new artists trying to get in to the field. A new job post separates the requirements into "Basic Quaifications" (which I assume means that they're required) and "Desired qualifications" (Which sounds to me like its preferred, but not a deal-breaker). Now they desire only 1 year of experience, but they add: "and/or training on a similar show; or equivalent combination of education and experience." The bottom line is that studios just want someone good and reliable, but they don't want to swim through an ocean of amateurish portfolios from people that are clearly not prepared for the job.Nickelodeon's changing job requirements...1 year ago in Personal More Like This

YOUR IDEAS HAVE VALUE!!I have to kind of make a post about this subject since it comes up a lot in discussionsYOUR IDEAS HAVE VALUE!!2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Your art has worth! it does not need marketing or any kind of promotion . Even your ideas have value too. So companies and people trying to take advantage of such things is simply not right and we as artists need to change.
If you spend hours and hours honing your skills as an artist. Then people shouldn't assume that you are willing to give that away for free.
All the time I get a message for people asking for free work , or work that I won't get paid for now, but they will promote my website. I do not need help promoting myself. I can handle that quite well on my own. ( FUNNY PART IS I NEVER PROMOTED MY ART AT ALL I JUST DID IT AND I GOT BETTER AND MORE PEOPLE BEGAN TO LOOK AT IT MORE AND MORE, I DID ART AND PUT IT ON A WEBSITE , NOTHING MORE) People also do the kick-starter thing. They say we cannot pay but if your project gets funded we can pay you after.
LITERALLY all of these scenarios would n
Movie Talk: Animated Movie Poster/Cover RantSince my journal needs an update i thought hey, why not posting this here, too. This is an art site after all and should be interesting to you as well.Movie Talk: Animated Movie Poster/Cover Rant2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I am someone who might be called a "cineaste" - because it's true. I friggin' LOVE movies. I love watching them, collecting them, doing research, listening to audio commentaries and learning about the backgrounds. And i always had a soft spot for animated motion pictures. Still do. Disney is awesome, so is Dreamworks and the not so wellknown ones.
Lately i went through my DVD-Collection once more and...i just realised again how MUCH i despise the awful covers that go along with most of the animated movie DVD releases. Especially when i recall the original theatrical posters - which are all (design wise) of sheer BRILLIANCE, full of power and emotion and actually dignify the movie's content. Not to be compared with the cheap DVD covers. Little comparison for you to see what i mean - because i felt like doing one.

Hey what's up guys! Its been a while but I'm back to stay!
There was a good reason for my absence...
As some of you who are following me on facebook might know, my girlfriend and I were expecting and my daughter was born a few weeks ago. This has been the single best moment of my life so far and we've been very very lucky everything has gone so perfect.
With all of that going on, painting was the last thing on my mind but now that I've settled into this new life as a dad, the urge is coming back and I'm going to be painting a LOT more.
I'm going to start a series of tutorials on Youtube where I'll explain everything character related from a beginner's level up to more advanced stuff. This will be a weekly thing and I'll be releasing the first one this week.
What I've been doing so far are just timelapses of regular paintings and while I'll still make these, my goal with the tutorial series is to target ce

7 TIPS FOR THE 21-YEAR-OLD ME by Bobby Chiu
When I was a student in college working on my skills as a character designer, I’d had periods where I would sit at my desk working as hard as I could but having little to show for my efforts at the end of the day. I remember sitting there surrounded by blank pieces of paper, trying to come up with an amazing style that nobody had ever seen before. I would do one drawing and not be satisfied, so I would lay a new piece of paper over it, re-draw it with slight changes to features here and there. This would still not be good enough so I would put another piece of paper over my revision, make more minor adjustments trying to perfect this new style I was searching for.
I did this for weeks on end, tweaking and polishing over and over, working hard every day. But in the end, did I come up with a brand new style, something amazing that

Mario Kart 7This probably is one of the best Mario Kart games to date. There's a lot to cover so I'm gonna break it up into sections.Mario Kart 73 years ago in Personal More Like This
The Main Game
If you know Mario Kart, you know what to expect. Nintendo characters racing around colorful crazy courses throwing objects at each other. The overall gameplay here is pretty much the same Mario Kart we know and love, but all the little minute tweaks to the gameplay are just amazing. The 3D effect works great and is probably one of the best uses of it for a 3DS game.
New features include the ability to hang glide and drive while underwater. Both work exceptionally well and keep the pace of the game flowing. Hang gliding itself takes a bit of work to figure out the sweet spot and adds a certain level of strategy. Sometimes it's better to float down right away to get back onto the track, and sometimes it's better to hang back and float longer to get to secret paths.
The fireball and Tanooki tail are new powerups. Both are timed so you need to use them qui

Predictions + Wii-U infoOn Announcing New ConsolesPredictions + Wii-U info3 years ago in Personal More Like This
This is how it always goes. You announce your console at E3, then the following E3 you set a release date and it comes out. Since neither Microsoft or Sony announced a new console that means the earliest they will will be E3 2013 and the earliest still that the 720 and Ps4 will be released to the home market will be 2014.
Also it should be pointed out that the Ps4 will not be a power house. Sony has already confirmed that they aren't going to make the Ps4 a beast of a machine, having learned their lesson from the Ps3 which was too expensive at launch and wasn't able to compete against the Wii's price point and the 360's head start. Besides, at this point, graphics can only go so far and instead newer ways to play are what are going to decide the fate of the next gen console systems (as the Wii-U is already showcasing).
Microsoft has already confirmed as well that an updated Kinect device will be part of their next consoles too, so it's unlikely that th
3DS Ambassador DownloadsWhen the 3DS got a severe price drop only a few months after being released, Nintendo made it up to those who bought it early by enrolling them in "The Ambassador Program" which essentially gives those gamers 20 free games. The first batch of NES games was released a while ago, but the second batch of GBA games was just released today. So if you're part of the Ambassador program, go download them now!3DS Ambassador Downloads3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Just like last time you have to log into the 3DS's eShop and scroll left till you get to settings. Under settings go to "Your Downloads" and scroll through the list of games you have downloaded until you find these following titles (note: the titles listed below are known for North America only and might be different depending on your location).

Hardcore MEH over Wii-U?As I've said before, one of the things I was looking forward to seeing this E3 was how so-called "hardcore" fanboys will find even more ridiculous ways to dismiss anything Nintendo showcases because they're "too mature" to enjoy something all-age friendly.Hardcore MEH over Wii-U?3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Finally Nintendo comes right out and gives pretty much every hardcore gamer exactly what they want, and in return all they get is snarky blog posts, dismissive attitudes, and cries of "foul" if anything casual shows up on the screen. Am I the only one noticing this?
First, hardcore gamers seem to be completely blind when it comes to titles that interest them, instead choosing to bitch and moan about casual games that aren't for their demographic. Listen up, geniuses, if the Kinect and Move haven't opened your eyes up yet, casual gaming is now a viable market whether you like it or not. It's OK to have more than one demographic represented, especially when it's advertising for a brand new console.
Second, the one thing hardcore gamers

I can't believe it's already 10 years since the first game's release. I want to gather some drawings to make a collection to send to Konami and Hideo Kojima to show that we still love this series. I will be putting them together once I get enough submissions.
Submissions can be submitted here on Deviant Art or to my email provided on my Deviant page. To make sure everyone's artwork gets an equal opportunity to shine in this collective. I'm gonna put all of our works into one big picture. Each next to each other. I'll put a little number on each and have everyone's email or name on the bottom to correspond with it.
1-I would like them to be Letter size, which is 8.5 in. x 11 in. PORTRAIT OR LANDSCAPE orientation is okay.
2-Leave your name/nickname/Email as well as titling it "BOKTAI COLLECTION" when you submit it.
3-The collage deadline is going to be JULY 14TH so that should be plenty of time for submissions.
4-*UPDATE* You can now submit up to three drawing

Trying to Improve? Are you trying to improve?Trying to Improve?4 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Looking for new ways to improve?
Just to IMPROVE?
There's one thing that people always repeat(I'm not trying to offend anybody) is that when they watch another artist who's art is very good, they either think, "I won't be able to be that good" and feel like they will never improve.
Sad thing, but true.
Only a few people think about improving to get to the same level as their favorite artist.
BUT! There's always room for improvement! ;D
Well, then. I'm not so sure if this is helpful or not and if you will learn something new or not, but, continue on, please. c:
Ever heard of 'practice makes perfect'? I know some people out there practice until they hands feel dead(not literally) but don't give up! Like I said, there's always room for improvement! c: And it doesn't matter if you waste paper. Paper can always be recycled. If you think you're wasting paper, try finding old envelopes and doodle on them!
Don't give up! EVER! Be strong and
