PE: The power of contextA picture is indeed "worth a thousand words", a complex idea can be conveyed with a single still image. This quote also characterizes one of the main goals of visualizations, namely making it possible to absorb large amounts of data quickly. In our perception of artworks we see every day, some get closer to our hearts than others. Imagine a painting, strong and powerful, technique showing an experienced, steady hand, needing nothing but a pair of eyes to enter one's sensitive soul. Are you satisfied with what you see? I wouldn't count on that, but I would be quite sure that after a while your head fills with numerous questions.PE: The power of context2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
On the contrary, your favorite artist publishes their recent work and you, as always, immediately love it. If, however, you would allow your mind a little exercise, you could clearly see that if this work was shown to you at random, under different circumstances and you would not know the author, hardly would it catch your interest for a second.
PE: The Impact of Color1. - WHAT IS COLOR?PE: The Impact of Color2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Color is the aspect of things that is caused by differing qualities of light being reflected or emitted by them, as received by the human eye and processed by the human brain. It is a function of light and biology, not an exact science, no two people can see it exactly the same.
The human eye and brain together translate light into color. Light receptors within the eye transmit messages to the brain, which produces the familiar sensations of color. Newton observed that color is not inherent in objects. Rather, the surface of an object reflects some colors and absorbs all the others. We perceive only the reflected colors. Thus, red is not "in" an apple. The surface of the apple is reflecting the wavelengths we see as red and absorbing all the rest. An object appears white when it reflects all wavelengths and black when it absorbs them all.
"Colors are the deeds of light, its deeds and sufferings."

How To Sell Your Original PaintingsHow To Sell Your Original PaintingsHow To Sell Your Original Paintings1 year ago in Deviant Events More Like This
In this article I will be discussing how to sell your original paintings. If your a artist you know how intimidating this can be when you've decided to venture into sales. It may even leave you with doubts about your own work, lower your confidence as a artist, and a bit fearful. Well have no fear! I have some tips from personal experience, as well as online references and advice from fellow artists that will help with your sales.
The First Step
Before we get into 'the meat' of things your very first step is Believe in yourself. Be confident about the accomplishments you've made. If your contemplating selling anything then you have to know you're good at what you do. Let that be your mantra as an artist. Understand that how you've acquired your skills, what you choose to paint, what your art looks like, and how
PE: 9 tips to be more creativeCreativity isn't just an artist's concern. Creativity is about using your imagination in every endeavor. Believe it or not, you are a creative person already. However, these tips might inspire you to get the best of what you already have.PE: 9 tips to be more creative2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
1. GET OUTSIDE
This comes as a very first tip for a reason. Whether it's outside your house or outside your mind, changing your perspective will help the ideas flow.
2. DRINK ENOUGH WATER
Your brain functions much better when well-hydrated. Symptoms of mild dehydration include tiredness, headache, muscle weakness, and dizziness - these are certainly not going to help you to think straight.
Exercise produces endorphins that might as well be responsible for your next brilliant idea.
Dreaming is very important, inside a dream nothing is impossible. Use that to your advantage.
5. STOP WATCHING TELEVISION
Or better yet, get rid of the damn thing. TV is a mind-killer. Turn it off. Even if th

You really want to, you've worked hard to develop the skills you have and you enjoy every minute of doing what you love. And besides, people say that your artworks are...nice. Cute. Doesn't that count for something? Sure it does, there is no reason to panic and pointlessly push yourself forward. Enjoy your coffee break!
Besides, even if you didn't like the current level as much, there is absolutely nothing you can do about it at the moment. So many unfortunate happenings stand right between you and your dream. Recognizing any of the following?
1 - You don't have the time
You're right! After all, you are a human being, not a machine, waking up early every morning, heading to school/work, afterwards taking care of the household/kids/your homework, studying, you barely even finish all the tasks during the 24 hours that's been given to everyone.
On the other hand, is there absolutely
PE: 5 reasons to believe in yourselfSuccess is not a measure of how much money you earn or how popular you are, rather, it is being able to find your passion - one that makes you happy and ultimately, one that you would be happy to leave as your legacy. To make a step forward to reach your dream takes smarts and guts but why couldn't you? Here is five reasons why you can.PE: 5 reasons to believe in yourself2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
1. Everyone was born equal
More-less, this is true, some people are born more challenged than others but we all possess skills and ability to learn. It is possible to build something out of nothing if we really want to. It all comes down to our preferences and decisions.
"Nobody can make you feel inferior without your consent."
2. Overcoming your fears
By constantly challenging yourself, you can get rid of fears that used to follow you. You will no longer be worried, you'll know you can count on yourself.
"If you think you can, you can. If you think you can't, you're right."

Everyone has heard of it, everyone fears the very sight of it, but if you are an artist, there is a good chance it creeps at you regularly, more often than a flu, in various forms and intensity; in psychology, Frustration is a common emotional response to opposition / obstacle, is related to anger and disappointment and its strength depends on the size of the established challenge. When Frustration calls you more often than your mother does, it's time to take an action!
1. - TAKE A WALK
Try to get your feelings straight by walking it out of your system. Is it raining or snowing? Even better, get soaked and dry out.
2. - SHIFT YOUR FOCUS
Sleep on it. Make yourself busy with small repetitive tasks, watch a good movie or comedy, play a game, visit your family or a friend, cook a new recipe, get a haircut, tidy up your room or house, watch a documentary, have a chocolate, take a horse ridi

"You can't just turn on creativity like a faucet. You have to be in the right mood.
What mood is that?
You are well-aware of the importance of this project, in fact you can't wait to get to it! Too bad you promised your friends to go for a drink, and then there's that movie. Also, your productivity is at its strongest at Midnight, first Tuesday after the Full Moon, starting earlier would be a waste of time. Make sure you are well-rested! After all, is there a better way to prepare yourself for a productive tomorrow than an enjoyable today?
Your diagnosis: Procrastination positive.

You obviously love to create, you do it often and now the time has come when you realize that this is no fling, this is something you would want to do for the whole life. You can learn a lot about techniques from numerous sources, you can find the right audience on the internet but there is one thing nobody can help you with but yourself - how to gain a specific style of your own?
What is a personal painting style?
- It's an identifiable style that enables the viewer to determine that the artwork was done by you
- In some cases, your style can be viewed as an extension of your personality
How can one develop it?
- Developing your style takes time, time and time once again. Don't have the time? No style for you!

This evening, I returned to into the City to fill out the reports about my first tour out into the Dead Zone.
Hopefully, they won't suddenly shut down the D.Z.T.R. Department and there will be more tours for me to "guide".
Today... was different.
A buzzing, hovering Hunter-Drone met me in the Airlock.
Must be a new thing.
Ah I see,
As I'm forever unable to access ANNET, someone up top must have programmed this contraption to follow me around, shouting things at me.
Thank you, whoever you are.
I never felt more ridiculous.
To top things off, I lost my coffee.

SNIPPY: QUESTIONABLE REALITYI definitely thought about killing Captain, especially after several pranks that were pulled on me like that time when I woke up with a bucket super-glued to my head and declared "iron man".SNIPPY: QUESTIONABLE REALITY3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Or that time when Captain made a soup out of my gas mask filters because the broth needed the "Smooth flavour of Snippy" and salt wasn't available... so I had to roam the decaying shopping malls for a new pair.
Or that time when Captain pushed me into a watery abyss inside a wooden barrel to celebrate "Niagara falls day".
Have my thoughts become so compounded as to finally cause schizophrenia?
...Am I a stone throw away from becoming like Pilot, talking to pet rocks and building the Bastion of Captania out of rotting shoe boxes?
And if I were to kill Captain who would I have left?
I must have been talking out loud like those crazy hobos that lived outside the protectorate dome that communicated with radioactive rain clouds via conversations of interpretive dance, until they were consumed by a famil
Monthly Challenge : MarchHello you dear deer,Monthly Challenge : March2 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
I haven't chosen the winner for February yet (it's been a very long and rough week; actually, it made me cry, but that's besides the point. I just don't want to choose a winner in haste on a tired mind) but I want to be punctual and give you guys as much time as possible for these monthly challenges, so I figure I can make that journal now!
I want to note, however, that I don't think I'll be able to have these challenges for the rest of the year as I'd been hoping to; that was my minimum wish. It's because I'm likely to lose my job soon, so I can't really buy premium dA memberships with money I won't have...and I doubt exclusive stock and journal features alone would be enough of a prize for people to participate. But! Such is life. Things happen and it will all work itself out in the end, though often not in the way you'd initially hoped.
As previously declared, last month I held a poll so you can all have at least one photo chosen by you g

As I left here to go home yesterday I heard for the first time about the three young women that had been kept prisoner for ten years in Cleveland.
Tragic. Reprehensible. That's what I think.
Out of the 592 deviations presently in my gallery I know they almost all depict women in peril, bondage, some state of capture and/or slavery. This is all mere fantasy, and I still maintain that all my girls, at least the ones that want to, gain freedom at some point. (Why do you think the delicious Keiko has to get recaptured so often?) For as much of a pervert as I am, I still have a tenderness toward women, and though I may fantasize about capture, keeping, and whatever else, I don't condone in any form or fashion such activity in Real Life. Bondage and capture games, even slavery of sorts, between consenting adults is fine. However, to steal someone's life is a crime worthy of the severest punishment, and yes...I sup

Hipster log, day IITo my dearest journal, today, I have seen three different hipsters in their natural environment.Hipster log, day II3 years ago in Personal More Like This
The first one I saw was at a local thrift shop, searching for t-shirts that were 'iconic' or 'retro' and even 'oldschool.' This specimen was female, and had a tan colored head cap, with the trademark glasses of it's species. The hipster did not see me, it was too busy searching for a band t-shirt that I'd never heard of.
The second hipster I encountered was a bit different. With this one, I was unable to tell if they were male or female, but the specimen was tall, with a dark blue head cap and the signature glasses. This was also wearing an iconic scarf, despite the 50 degree weather outside. The hipster roamed around the bookstore for several minutes, before I lost interest, and moved onto my next class.
The last encounter was one of a much more intimate nature. The third hipster I spotted was actually sitting behind me in class. Clearly female, this hipster was disguised as a student with
