DeviantART Search TipsSearch is a pivotal piece of the Internet. Google has become the successful company it is today because it understands this simple fact. With all the information out there today, it can be difficult finding useful data. With artwork and images, the task is even more difficult since we are dependent on the accuracy keywords and text descriptions. If you have ever tried to find the source of a particular piece of artwork, you know how painful this task can be. The goal of this article is to help give you some tips and take some of the pain out of the process.DeviantART Search Tips4 years ago in Art Features More Like This

To deter art theft, it's a really good idea to show your work at the smallest size possible. Also, it seems that using a low resolution and watermarking your work is a good deterrent too.
Crediting and Bases (Traced bases) Also, art theftAlright so some of you may have seen the poll I made about bases, and that was kinda just something I was interested in, but after looking at a few bases that are available on deviantART, I just want to say something about crediting ok like. Alright.Crediting and Bases (Traced bases) Also, art theft9 months ago in Personal More Like This
Also, this is a rant journal, after I finish ranting I will probably have something relatively articulate near the end summing up the stuff I happened to rant about.
Skip to the wall of rainbow sheep for the less ranty bit.
Note: I personally don’t really have too much hate against bases—IF the base is original, or traced from something YOU HAVE PERMISSION to trace from. If that is the case, then may the base-maker and the base user have a blast coz there is nothing wrong with base using.
Ok, THIS JOURNAL IS PROBABLY JUST GOING TO BE ABout traced bases. TRACED BASES. Ok so if you happened to sketch something pretty hella and decided to make it a base, then whateves that’s cool.

...are tired of the "mature content" police. We believe that part of living in the real world is going to be offensive. And, when we are offended, we are brave enough when sufficiently offended, to peacefully and courteously confront that which offends us and try to resolve it on our own; it is our responsibility as human beings to do so.
Furthermore, when it comes to art, we are perfectly capable of picking and choosing what we will look at, and do not need a third party to "help" by enforcing a ridiculous system of scoring images as "mature" or "ideologically sensitive" or "violent." We think such rules are ultimately pointless and intellectually demean everyone who follows, enforces, or has them enforced upon them. In short, if we don't like your art, we'll ignore it. If we really don't like it, we'll send you a private note or make a public comment clearly stating why. In other words, we don't nee

If you've ever taken a look at the job-offers part of any forum or site, you'll notice two tendencies that occur online. The first is that a lot of people look for art, some for the cheapest possible price at the best possible quality. The other is that a lot of people are willing to low-ball even more than the initial offer simply to snag the job.
Because if they don't offer cheaper art than the rest, they wouldn't be getting the job, or so the line of thought most likely goes.
You see people selling full-body, detailed renderings for $10, or people who sell pixel art for 50 points. But why?
A reminder should be sent out telling people that their art is worth so much more than they think. And this is why I can highly advise these journals if you plan to price and sell your art.

I would recommend you to take your time to read this:
Now, you all know that I hate anything that has to do with child abuse or children getting harmed in any sort of way, and I do believe that Joseph Kony is an evil person for his actions. But, I personally don't think that the group "Invisible Children" are the right people to support in this case. I would love to see an end to Joseph Kony, and have all the children saved, of course I would like that! But I would have it done differently than sending in the Ugandan Government's army - who are known to loot and rape, and are also funded by Invisible Children. And besides, Kony has child soldiers and child bodyguards. The military won't get through to him without having to kill children in the process.
So - I personally do not support "KONY 2012" or Invisible Children.
But I do wish there was a w

Over the years, we've been proud to offer the opportunity to volunteer with deviantART. We believe that our volunteers play a crucial role in helping our community develop and grow in positive ways.
The Gallery Moderator (previously known as Gallery Director) and Message Network Admin (MN@) teams have become a much loved and appreciated role, with many volunteers proudly detailing their experience in applications to enter into successful careers with companies who all recognise the value of volunteering in such a vibrant and eclectic community. Did you know that some of our now full time Staff were once volunteers? fourteenthstar, Moonbeam13, Pachunka, aunjuli, y2jenn, damphyr, Tachy-on, dxd and Ikue all volunteered in various roles -- and we are all very proud of that fact!
Over the past few months, we've been taking a close look at the volunteer experience -- what's worked, what hasn't worked a
Art in Contemplation of Its Own BecomingDuchamp finds a discarded urinal. He alters it (by signing a name to it not even his own, but obviously “the artist’s”) and names it “The Fountain”. The most mundane, even off-putting, of objects is transformed by Duchamp into art. He submits it for exhibition and it is rejected. You might say the judges “pissed on” his idea. But the idea was born and persisted. Duchamp insisted the object was art because he as an artist presented it as such. “Conceptual Art” was born.Art in Contemplation of Its Own Becoming4 years ago in Personal More Like This

The Committed Canvas:icontechgnotic:The Committed Canvas4 years ago in Personal More Like This
Tattooing has existed since the very beginnings of Neolithic human expression and has since those ancient beginnings continued to be a reliable flash indicator of personality type. There are those people who get tattoos and there those people who simply do not. Even though the social opprobrium for getting inked has greatly disappeared in recent years, and even though skin art has become almost boringly de rigueur amongst rock guitarists and other entertainers, there is still one element that separates the tattooed from the non-tattooed in terms of artistic appreciation: commitment.
Tattoos may be the first “interactive” art form. The art lover doesn’t just buy an artist’s artwork – he or she becomes one with artwork, he or she commits to becoming a living canvas for the artwork, he or she, by choosing the tattoo to be borne forever, shares authorship with the tattoo artist of the artwork. T
'This isn't art! This is porn!' Here we go again! Stefangrosjean posts a photo of a beautiful topless woman and the internet collectively shits itself inside out, again. This time, the madness spilled over into a photo posted by Creativephotoworks, who is another artist for whom I have much respect and admiration. I must say that it greatly irks me when people post in response to content they don't like to trash it, insult the artist, and demand that it be changed or removed. I don't do that to the art you like, so please don't do that to the art I like. DA is one of the few places on the internet where comments are generally very, very positive and encouraging. Let's keep DA a community of support rather than a community of hate.'This isn't art! This is porn!'10 months ago in Personal More Like This
One of the common, though not particularly constructive, criticisms I see is accusing the artist of posting porn, not art. In this post, I'd like to explore what art is, wh

I am haunted in this holiday season by the opening lines of Charles Dickens’s A Tale of Two Cities, his novel about a society 250 years ago coming apart in its seemingly irreconcilable divisions. Could it be these lines define where we have come to find ourselves today?
“It was the best of times,
it was the worst of times,
in the age of wisdom,
it was the age of foolishness,
it was the epoch of belief,
it was the epoch of incredulity,
it was the season of Light,

Quick Tips: On Referencing AnatomyReference from real life whenever possible.Quick Tips: On Referencing Anatomy4 years ago in Personal More Like This
When you reference or copy from another artist's studies/sketches/art, you may be copying their mistakes as well. Furthermore, an artist's studies are their notes and --just like with history or chemistry notes-- copying someone else's notes will not help you fully understand the material. To completely understand anatomy, you must take your own notes and build your own understanding through observation.
This is probably a no-brainer for many artists but... scruffynerfherder and I were talking about this last night, and with the increase of "anatomy studies" showing up on dA's front page, it's been on my mind. DA's resource category has some great material, but I also feel like there is a lot of misleading information taught by amateurs who really probably shouldn't be teaching things like shading or anatomy, because they have a less-than-stellar grasp on it themselves. I'm not trying to knock anyone here, but it's a bit tr
