Birthday Scuzzle! BREAKING NEWS! Something terrible has happened!Birthday Scuzzle!4 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
Some naughty mudkips invaded dA and stole a very important photograph. The stunning photo was a gift for all of you to celebrate deviantART's 11th birthday. It is devastating to confirm it is now missing.
Witnesses say that the mudkips were spotted sneaking out of an open window, but we cannot confirm until a full investigation has been reported and all evidence collected.
In the meantime, the photograph remains missing. Moonbeam13 is currently searching her spellbook to find a way to bring the image back.
Stay tuned for further updates. A full report will be issued on the 3rd August.
What is a Scuzzle?
A Scuzzle is a combination of a Scavenger Hunt and a Jigsaw Puzzle. There will be lots of missing pieces of this Scuzzle ready for you to find. Although there are some subtle clues to help you along your way, you will need to search high and low for them! Come back on the 3rd August for the hunt to begin!
Project Educate: ScratchboardThe modern form of scratchboard originated in the 19th century in Britain and France. This is a technique using knives(and other implements) to scratch(etch) designs into a thin layer of white China clay(may also be several layers of multi-colored clay) that is coated with black India ink. Scratchboard became a popular medium for reproduction because it replaced other more expensive mediums in printing, and could photographically reduced for reproduction without losing quality. It was widely used in scientific and advertizing illustration, and is still the prefer method for some professionals. In the fine art arena, scratchboard is used more as a stand alone work of art than as a device to make prints.Project Educate: Scratchboard3 years ago in Art Features More Like This

The Committed Canvas:icontechgnotic:The Committed Canvas4 years ago in Personal More Like This
Tattooing has existed since the very beginnings of Neolithic human expression and has since those ancient beginnings continued to be a reliable flash indicator of personality type. There are those people who get tattoos and there those people who simply do not. Even though the social opprobrium for getting inked has greatly disappeared in recent years, and even though skin art has become almost boringly de rigueur amongst rock guitarists and other entertainers, there is still one element that separates the tattooed from the non-tattooed in terms of artistic appreciation: commitment.
Tattoos may be the first “interactive” art form. The art lover doesn’t just buy an artist’s artwork – he or she becomes one with artwork, he or she commits to becoming a living canvas for the artwork, he or she, by choosing the tattoo to be borne forever, shares authorship with the tattoo artist of the artwork. Rules and Guidelines
The deviation should be dA themed, as this is a birthday contest! For example, you may wish to include Fella, popular emotes, llamas, ninjas etc
You may NOT use the image directly.
Whichever shapes you see in the stock images should be translated as closely as possible in your finished piece. For example, the mountain in my example is the same shape as the wallpaper rip.
Please link to the stock image used and say what part of your image it's used in. For example I used the shape of the wallpa

Over the years, we've been proud to offer the opportunity to volunteer with deviantART. We believe that our volunteers play a crucial role in helping our community develop and grow in positive ways.
The Gallery Moderator (previously known as Gallery Director) and Message Network Admin (MN@) teams have become a much loved and appreciated role, with many volunteers proudly detailing their experience in applications to enter into successful careers with companies who all recognise the value of volunteering in such a vibrant and eclectic community. Did you know that some of our now full time Staff were once volunteers? fourteenthstar, Moonbeam13, pachunka, aunjuli, y2jenn, damphyr, Tachy-on, dxd and Ikue all volunteered in various roles -- and we are all very proud of that fact!
Over the past few months, we've been taking a close look at the volunteer experience -- what's worked, what hasn't worked a
there are two sides to every case...yes, I've also heard about "KONY 2012", but I want to share another side of the story.there are two sides to every case...3 years ago in Personal More Like This
I would recommend you to take your time to read this:
Now, you all know that I hate anything that has to do with child abuse or children getting harmed in any sort of way, and I do believe that Joseph Kony is an evil person for his actions. But, I personally don't think that the group "Invisible Children" are the right people to support in this case. I would love to see an end to Joseph Kony, and have all the children saved, of course I would like that! But I would have it done differently than sending in the Ugandan Government's army - who are known to loot and rape, and are also funded by Invisible Children. And besides, Kony has child soldiers and child bodyguards. The military won't get through to him without having to kill children in the process.
So - I personally do not support "KONY 2012" or Invisible Children.
But I do wish there was a w
NaNoEdMo: A Month for EditingIt's finally the halfway point in the NaNoWriMo challenge! For some, they've already graced the 50,000 word limit, others are close enough to reach, some are still hanging around the daily word count limit, and for others... you're struggling to catch up! But, no matter where in your challenge you are, there's one thing that everyone shares: a novel. More correctly, an unedited novel.NaNoEdMo: A Month for Editing1 year ago in Literature Features More Like This
While yes, NaNo is meant to prove that you can, indeed, get a novel written (and by novel, I mean first draft), many of us writers would love to see a more polished piece. Whether it's for your personal use, showing to family and friends, using your self-publishing option for it, or seeking traditional publishing down the road, editing is important to having a nice, solid piece of work. You may be proud now that you've got 50,000 words written (or close to it), but you'll be even prouder to have a grammatically correct, plot-hole filled in, novel.
But, for many, the editing process seems to be a bi
'Nice f**king model!'I heard that a sequel to Beetlejuice had been greenlit a little while back, and everyone involved with the original seem to be on board. Michael Keaton has openly said that he's involved and, last I heard, Tim Burton had been talking with him directly, so he's most likely going to be calling the shots again: http://metro.co.uk/2013/11/06/michael-keaton-says-yes-to-beetlejuice-2-4176210/'Nice f**king model!'1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Beetlejuice, to me, is the definitive Burton film. I don't think he's ever made anything better so I'm rather excited at the prospect.... as long as it's not the "Beetlejuice goes Hawaiian” B.S. that bubbled up from the s-bend a few years back.
The movie is, what, 25 years old, now? So I’m (depressingly) aware that a good slice of you won’t have seen it and, at one point, will no doubt be asking “Is that Spock’s mum?”.
You must watch it.
Put it on late at night, let that Danny Elfman score send shivers down your spine and enjoy the ride: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v
Yeah, this'll end well.....Let me try to wrap my head around this: certain parties in the U.S government don't like the idea of assisting the poor, of the county they serve, with health care expense, because of the cost.Yeah, this'll end well.....1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Their "solution" to this is to shut down the government (something which isn't possible in any other nation on the planet), which will cost more, decrease public spending, lower the demand for imports, damage global economy and generally tarnish the U.S's international reputation even further?
The rich making others suffer in an effort to get their own way.
I believe that's called "tyranny".

Crediting and Bases (Traced bases) Also, art theftAlright so some of you may have seen the poll I made about bases, and that was kinda just something I was interested in, but after looking at a few bases that are available on deviantART, I just want to say something about crediting ok like. Alright.Crediting and Bases (Traced bases) Also, art theft2 months ago in Personal More Like This
Also, this is a rant journal, after I finish ranting I will probably have something relatively articulate near the end summing up the stuff I happened to rant about.
Skip to the wall of rainbow sheep for the less ranty bit.
Note: I personally don’t really have too much hate against bases—IF the base is original, or traced from something YOU HAVE PERMISSION to trace from. If that is the case, then may the base-maker and the base user have a blast coz there is nothing wrong with base using.
Ok, THIS JOURNAL IS PROBABLY JUST GOING TO BE ABout traced bases. TRACED BASES. Ok so if you happened to sketch something pretty hella and decided to make it a base, then whateves that’s cool.
What is art?So it seems that every day around deviantART I see people saying "this isn't art". And I see a variety of reasons for this. So I thought I'd share with you some thoughts I've been having on the matter. What is art?3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Blur is something that artists have used for as long as art has existed, they use it to depict all manner of things, some times it's given a different name, but it is used. Take a look at the works of the impressionists, or how about all those trendy shots of cities at night, with all the lines from the cars. That's blur and that is an integral part of art for so many people. It's not something you can discount just because you don't like it's use.
She/He is naked
Controversial to a lot of people, for some reason society and religion have dictated to use that the human form is a disgusting, unclean and unsavory thing. Something that must be covered up at all times. I ask you, how did you come in to this world?

Birthday Scuzzle 2011: Start here!Hello deviants!Birthday Scuzzle 2011: Start here!3 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
As part of the 11th birthday celebrations, we deviously had created a beautiful celebratory photograph to share with you all. It is stunning, a real epitome of the deviantART world. Unfortunately someone (I'd look in the direction of last month's deviousness award winner) left a window open and an army of naughty mudkips came and stole the photo! We were all devastated (well with the exception of ScENeYmE who found it hilarious!)
Fortunately, the great Moonbeam13 called upon her witching powers (the spell involved monkeys, lightning and an extra sprinkle of devious magic) and managed to find the photograph. Sadly, she discovered the naughty mudkips had ripped the photograph apart, leaving it in complete disarray! To stop the mudkips stealing it again, she gave individual pieces to deviants to conceal until we knew it was safe to unveil the complete photo to everyone. However, as busy as Moonbeam13 is, she has forgotten who holds the hidden pieces (though
Exploring IndustrialThis time around we are looking at Industrial Photography within the Urban and Rural Photography Gallery.Exploring Industrial3 years ago in Personal More Like This
It's a simple term and it pretty much explains itself. Industrial is factories, industrial areas, cranes, machinery
and so on.Quite often you can mix industrial Photography with Urban Exploration -
The two often go hand in hand.
The use of photographs to depict industrial activity and products began in the 1850s and 1860s.
Few firms employed their own photographers, but commissioned independent operators, or
employees who could use a camera.
Industrial photography cannot be tied to a particular aesthetic or function. There are innumerable
links with other branches of the medium, such as portraiture, reportage, and architectural and
Industrial images hold a history, a world that many of us w
