The Scottish Highlands
“Outlander” is a new cable series about a young woman who time travels from England at the end of WWII to 1743 Scotland, right before the Second Jacobite Uprising. The science fiction time travel and Scottish civil war themes are simply elaborate devices to justify the heroine engaging in a sizzling “bodice–ripper” romance. The location shoot in the lush eye–popping Scottish Highlands provides a beautiful backdrop for all the hot romance. Even if British reserve, Scottish resolve and cable sex aren’t your cup of tea, the amazing landscapes framing the tale are well worth your time.
Fantastic Stock and Where to Find It - Feature 26I've been making a collection of some of the brilliant stock artistsFantastic Stock and Where to Find It - Feature 262 years ago in Art Features More Like This

myself so I look for other peoples so I can suggest them. The way I
choose is quite odd, when I see a stock image I have an instant image in
my head of what I could do or create out of that piece of stock. The
image also has to be crystal clear and easily altered.

Putting my Stock in StorageTime for me to start putting my stock in storage for reasons explained in my previous journal entry:Putting my Stock in Storage2 years ago in Personal More Like This
(Last Updated Count: 2062 stored images)
If you're interested in the details, I believe I've made my reasoning pretty clear and I don't want to harp on it any more than I have to. Instead, I would like to thank you for your support & appreciation. This community has been very helpful in making me grow as a stock provider, photographer and visual artist. I've learned so much from your feedback, admiring your works and just randomly surfing this site with child-like excitement for the next leap of inspiration.
I still plan to keep a presence here, just more like a friend and observer moving forward. You do not need to worry about how these changes will affect any future uses of my stock, the standard Creative Commons license (Attribution 3.0) will still apply. I would ju

[Tutorial] G1G2 Clothing in Blender 1This tutorial series was requested by JooDoo. If you don't use Blender, feel free to skip this. Blender's interface is widely hated, but it's a free program with tons of features, and at the very least it's a great way to build your business until you can afford 3dCoat, Zbrush, or one of the more expensive suites. Blender can be profitably integrated with these others as well, especially when it is used to base model and UV map and they are used for sculpting and painting; but that's a discussion for another day.[Tutorial] G1G2 Clothing in Blender 11 year ago in Personal More Like This
In Part 1 we'll start with a discussion of setting up your first scene and creating a good low-res base topology.
A pictorial supplement can be found here.
Latest version of Blender (2.69 as of this writing); 64 bit is pretty much mandatory for sculpting, and if you have a 32 bit system you may not be ready to start really working in 3D.

Making A Living at DAZ3DEvery so often someone asks if this is possible, how hard this is, and how to do it. I'm writing this journal entry so I can just link them back to it instead of typing the same post or forum PM repeatedly.Making A Living at DAZ3D1 year ago in Personal More Like This
I'm putting these down in the order they are usually asked, not in the order I think they should be asked.
Q: How much money can I make?
A: I make a good living for a single person in the Western USA selling in the DAZ market. I also sell at Renderosity, but I would describe that as a "hobby" or "bonus" income; it would be hard to do without it, but it's not what pays the rent every month, either. For the most part you will make back according to the time you put in. Only a few top artists get into six figures in American dollars in our market, and they are the biggest names who sell the biggest products.
Q: Can I do it in my spare time?
A: Not if you want to make a living. We do have hobbyist artists at DAZ3D, for whom this is a second i
[Tutorial] G1G2 Clothing in Blender 3This text tutorial continues the series on creating clothing for Genesis 1 and 2 for DAZ Studio in Blender. Previous links:[Tutorial] G1G2 Clothing in Blender 31 year ago in Personal More Like This
In this tutorial we will explore texturing and, more specifically, using Blender to create sculpted displacement.
From Part 1 and 2 you should have:
-A UV-mapped mesh, with materials assigned, at a poly count between 16k and 100k polygons (less is okay, more is not); at this point you should have done your "base" sculpt and it should look basically like a piece of clothing, not a paper cutout overlying the body. Buttons, lacing, etc. should be finished and a permanent part of the clothing, and you should have done your base rigging in DAZ Studio and saved it to the library as a .duf using the File--Save As--Support Assets--Figure/Pr
[Tutorial] G1G2 Clothing in Blender 2Here is Part 1.[Tutorial] G1G2 Clothing in Blender 21 year ago in Personal More Like This
In Part 2 we'll take a look at some good practices for the mid-poly stage of your mesh, creating materials, and how to get your mesh over to DAZ Studio.
To recap, at this point in Blender you should have a low-poly base mesh that is UV Mapped. If it is tightly overlying the body from use of snap tools, use alt+s to scale it along the normals away from the body. If this doesn't seem to work right, Ctrl+N recalculates normals outward and should fix it.
Make sure you assign one or more materials.
You can create materials using the right-hand panel. Click the round ball icon (the orange one more to the right, not the blue one more to the left) and click the "+ New" button. Clicking on the word "Material" next to the orange ball in the dialog that appears will let you give it a name. If you want to add more than one, just click the plus si

In this section we'll talk about creating custom icons and morphs.
From Parts 1 through 4 you should have:
-A textured and rigged clothing item with materials set up that use your diffuse, bump, and high-resolution displacement maps. It should already be saved to your People/Genesis or Genesis 2 Male or Female/Clothing/YourName/Your Item folder, and there should already be a Your Item/Materials folder with at least one material in it.
-A good handle on edit mode and sculpting meshes in Blender. I will cover some commands, but not basic navigation

Photomanipulation Contest - MythologyBased on the results of a previous poll, the popular choice for the contest theme is Mythology.Photomanipulation Contest - Mythology3 weeks ago in Deviant Events More Like This
"Mythology can refer either to the collected myths of a group of people—their body of stories which they tell to explain nature, history, and customs—or to the study of such myths. As a collection of such stories, mythology is an important feature of every culture."
For this contest, you are invited to create an entry based around your favorite god, goddess, mythological creature, etc. However, you are encouraged to break out of the box a bit and work around a myth you are not familiar with, or one that is lesser known.
Here is a great list of different mythologies around the world: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_mythologies (keep in mind: you are not limited to this list - it is just a guideline)

Morph Transfer Options Added to DS 462That's DAZ Studio 4.6.2, the latest version as of this writing.Morph Transfer Options Added to DS 4621 year ago in Personal More Like This
If you transfer morphs with Transfer Utility, you might previously have noticed that you have no option to only transfer SOME morphs. This can particularly be annoying with Genesis morphs, where you end up transferring hundreds and then have to sort out and save to library just the one you want.
Well, the newest version of DAZ Studio has an additional feature to help with this.
In the Parameters tab, when you've found the dial for a particular morph, right-click on it. One of your options is "Favorites." Hover over that and you can choose "Add Selected Properties to Favorites."
On most items, all morphs are not favorited by default, including Genesis. Mark just the morph or morphs you want to transfer as favorites in the manner described.
Now when you start Transfer Utility, uncheck everything but the "Morph Targets" option. You need to have the "Show Options" button checked to expand that par
Quiet Silence breeds thought, and frankly, I find it terrifying. It seems like most of us do, since we tend to avoiding it. People don't want to face their thoughts; many of us are haunted by things we'd rather not think about.Quiet2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I've become an addict to my anesthetic habits; music, movies, video-games, etc. but that's not all, because since one thing alone can't keep me occupied, I resort to multi-tasking. I pile on the media 'til I'm drowning in white noise, all to avoid the pain of having to deal with my thoughts.
Recently I turned it all off, just for a few minutes. I shut off my cell-phone and logged out of Skype, I closed out of Facebook and took off my headset, then I painted in utter silence. It didn't last long, eventually my thoughts caught up with me, but I got a glimpse of something; I shook loose some of the blockage in my head.

This challenge has ended. Thank you for the entries, and for a successful first run!
The winners will be selected within a couple days.
You've heard of flash mobs, right? Large groups of people that meet in public places and perform in some way for a short amount of time, then disperse and act as if nothing happened, leaving everyone else surprised and confused? I figured I'd try to incorporate something like that into a short challenge.
You will be given a theme. The idea is to quickly piece together a manip based on that theme. Because the time limit to complete it will be short, technical skill will not be heavily judged.
There will be more of these challenges, but they will not be on a set schedule. Like a flash mob, they're meant to surprise you and keep you on your toes.

How To Do A Quality Female Pinup In 3DelightI'm not going to give a "bad" example, because a lot of people who do terrible pinups are enthusiastic hobbyists, and there's no reason to hurt their feelings when they're really not trying to do this professionally. Still, one can always do better. The reason I'm going to talk about this is that pinups are a perennial visual topic in our medium, and one that is very often done very badly. How To Do A Quality Female Pinup In 3Delight6 months ago in Personal More Like This
I'm not saying this because I'm a heterosexual female, and not especially girly or fem myself; the human female body as an artistic subject is not offensive to me, nor is the fact that men like to look at pictures of sexy women. I like to look at sexy men, so as far as I'm concerned, all's fair. Here's me doing a male pinup and here's how I did it<
