This image began as an experiment to see what was possible using the new Blur feature of the upcoming version of
Inkscape. Ever since I first read about the feature, I've wanted to give it a try on some
Volumetric Lighting. This is my attempt to vectorize
chilsta of flickr's "
Jaq".
It's amazing how one single feature can so affect the possibilities and design process. Blur in Inkscape opens up a whole new slew of artistic techniques for experimentation, and infinitely expands the abilities one has to shade.
As I added element upon element of blurred light, Inkscape really started slowing down. I can say with pride that by the time I was done it this feature was definitely put through its paces.
Rendering the "high quality" final version of the vector took over a minute for 900x600px!
Enjoy!
