More 'Breaking into a job with art'...Hi guys! I hope everyone is well! For some strange reason I've been getting an overwhelming number of people asking me about breaking into a job with art all of a sudden @_@More 'Breaking into a job with art'...3 years ago in Personal More Like This
I'll always answer any further questions. (just note me or leave a comment)
But I just wanna refer you guys to some previous writings from other artists I have already posted earlier, and is still really good information if you've missed it.
Even if some of these are comics, I feel like most of the things stated are universal for most art-related jobs. Don't be put off just because you might not be interested in doing comics.

And then I wanna talk about the basic stuff:
- It's hard. It really is. But don't give up.

This post is brought on by a complaint I saw recently on facebook, and also by stuff in general.
I for one, cosplay because I love it. I might not agree with people that cosplay to achieve fame (seriously...what fame?), but you know, that's what people do for themselves and it's not my business.
I am human and criticize other cosplay mentally (or with my friends). I won't deny that. What is driving me crazy is people that say others shouldn't criticize peoples' cosplays and then turn around and criticize other people for buying cosplay, or cosplaying a character just because they're hot without knowing the character.
Yes, you can disagree. That's normal. But I find it terribly hypocritical to say others can't criticize and then go off and criticize somebody else. You say you think cosplayers that buy their cosplay or just want to look pretty are posers? Fine. That's your viewpoint. I d

Love.( x )Love.7 months ago in Personal More Like This
Have you ever realized that humans are SO fixated on love? Have you ever realized, that our whole lives, we're trying to find someone or something to love? Have you ever realized that it's our most powerful and impenetrable emotion?
We'd kill for love.
We'd sacrifice for love.
We'd give our lives for love.
We'd let ourselves perish so that someone who we love can survive.
We perform miracles through love. We come back to life because of love.
And when we die or when we're in a pinch, the person we loved flashes before our eyes.
This emotion is so powerful it can make us do things we never wanted to do. And we can't measure it. We can't quantify it. Who knew we'd be so attached to other beings, that literally across time and earth we are tied to those people? That the hearts are still connected.
So don't take this emotion so lightly. Don't play around with it, don't make it into some cheap idea. As said in the movie I

I wish life was like a perfect ending to a series--be it anime or TV. Where after much hardship, everybody is in their rightful place, smiling happily where it may take them. I wish we had an epilogue, an inspiring ending song, and a soft smile to close the chapter. I wish we really could have a happily ever after, where life stops testing us, stops beating us over the head, and lets us live.
But, life isn't like that. And in turn, although those images may be ideal, we must realize we all have little endings in our lives. When you graduate high school, when you break up with a friend or s/o, when you leave a band, or move away. When you finally decided what you want to do, when you graduate college, and so on. We all have tiny places where everything finally seems to be okay, but just like those tv series, we have to survive the trials and tribulations in order to smile freely on the other side.

This is going to be long and you're gonna think it's irrelevant but i highly encourage you to read this.
When i first started playing piano, i was 13. I was a complete newbie and i started sort of late for an instrument. Yet, i was so passionate. I was excited and often played songs my teacher didn't assign and went ahead in the books every day. There was a talent show coming up that year. And i had decided, with my beginner prowess, to play a song for the talent show.
Of course, it's a talent show. I have to play something good.
So i searched long and wide on the internet until i found a cover of "the Titanic" song, yes the famous one. I didn't even have SHEET MUSIC. I just watched her play from her piano and then copied the keys. It wasn't easy. It took me weeks and weeks and weeks. I had no previous experience. I remember how painful my fingers felt, they were sore because of constant stretching in cho
Killing animals for the fur...not for me thankyouI have just come across a photograph of a fox fur in 'animals, plants etc' catagory and am just disgusted to find folk conversing about how beautiful it is, really...killing an animal for its fur so that folk can parade around in is beautiful, also unless you are living in the midst of Siberia these furs are not needed for humans to keep warm...but still there are those ignorant enough to not give a moments thought to animal welfare, it really saddens me.Killing animals for the fur...not for me thankyou2 years ago in Personal More Like This
to any who reads thisso you know how i wrote those two levi x reader drabble fic thingies where in one of them the reader was chubby/fat and in the other they were tall?to any who reads this4 months ago in Personal More Like This
well y'know there are just so many positive comments on those fics about how they made people feel good about themselves so i'd like to do maybe a little drabble series (when i get my GOT DAM COMPUTER BACK) where i specifically dedicate fics to minority persons who don't get much attention.
like for example maybe i could write the reader as gay/queer (i mean the sexuality of the reader is left up to interpretation to begin with but even still), or the reader could be dark-skinned (or POC in general), or they could be disabled, or trans/non-binary, or maybe muslim or something? i've heard of biracial people feeling bad because they don't feel they're "coloured" enough to speak out about racism issues but they're also not "white" enough to reap the privileges, so they could get some love too.
i leave my readers as ambiguous as possible

"Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light." -Dylan Thomas
You blink, and suddenly it's the new year. The images of the last 365 days flutter before your eyes, and all at once you get a flurry of pain, happiness, laughter, or bitterness against your tongue. Regrets or disappointments may flash before your eyes. The feeling of heartbreak, or emotional scars that reopen at the remembrance.
And you wish you can change things. And maybe you wish you were stronger, or had the strength to fight yourself.
One tiny difference in your decision, may have transformed your world.
What if only you had mo

Focus on your OWN pathWe often look at others, and see that they're either: more religious, more successful, richer, smarter, etc. But I've come to realize this after countless occurrences in my own life, that we really need to focus on our OWN path. We see others and then we look at our self and then we try hard to be like others.Focus on your OWN path9 months ago in Personal More Like This
But that's the thing, we were made different on purpose. There's a reason why you're not them. Yes, it's good to gain inspiration from everybody. Maybe take some of their good points, the things they are doing right. But don't try to be like them.
The path you are taken is unique. It's your own. You can mold it the way you want, and the way you shape your path will be different from someone else. But it doesn't mean you're wrong and it doesn't mean they're right. Sometimes different paths can lead to the same goal right?
And focus on your heart. Focus on who YOU want to be. Not what someone else wants to be.
Going to China! It's been almost five years since I last visited my homeland, and I'm excited and scared at the same time.Going to China!1 year ago in Personal More Like This
My last visit in 2009 left me a bit traumatized but I think I'm okay now. My stepmother and half brother in China had tried to kill me with a kitchen knife. I was shaking and crying when I escaped in a taxi that night. After that event, I couldn't feel safe anymore. I changed my flight to return to the US sooner, and never wanted to go back again.
But that's in the past now. I miss my grandparents and other relatives. I miss the food, the cicadas, the unique mountainscape of Sichuan, and ever dwindling bits of the old city that's quickly being replaced by skyscrapers.
I'm looking forward to seeing how much China has changed. Though I'm not looking forward to breathing that air. Air pollution is such a constant health hazard that I had to buy hundreds of dollars worth of respirators for me and my grandparents. I will also be buying air purifiers (that's another five hundred dollars

Challenge 4: Yellow - TOP 5Dear all friends,Challenge 4: Yellow - TOP 53 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
Sorry for late result but we have more entries this time, and even more amazing works .
With a lot of entries therefore it took me while to choose top 5. This time, so many good entries with great concepts. It's really hard for me to pick 5 only.
I don't pick the top 5 base on drawing skills only but also the concept of their entries. But there were more than 20 entries I want to pick as winners :C. But don't worry, we will have more challenges in future.
I think there are too many good entries, top 5 are not enough actually. We call it top 5 but actually I think there are at least top 20 or more, since this time, so so many lovely entries . How about giving out top 10 in next challenge (when we have enough point again, yes). People will get 100 points each, less points but more people who will get it. How do you think about it? Because I think actually this is not a contest, it's just a little challenge for fun and a reason to draw more, practice mo

Critiquing, do's and dont'sSo i almost always request critiques on my art, and i also get a lot of them too (thank you so much guys/galls) and i've noticed some critiquers have some misconceptions about critiques, their role, how to do it, etc.Critiquing, do's and dont's9 months ago in Deviant Events More Like This
Now i don't want to critique someone's critiuque, i rarely do that because people take it as being defensive about the art that is critiqued. So i'll just make this journal to hopefully inform/educate some of you about critiquing.
-If an artist requests critiques, and you have something to say about it then do use the critique widget to leave a critique. Don't critique in the comment's section though. I know some of you are more shy, but if you're bold enough to write a critique then put it in its proper place, that's what the widget is fore. This does not apply to artists who do not have a premium and can't requests critiques through the widget.
-Do read the artists comments on the artwork first. They might offer hints on what
