[Tutorial] G1G2 Clothing in Blender 1This tutorial series was requested by JooDoo. If you don't use Blender, feel free to skip this. Blender's interface is widely hated, but it's a free program with tons of features, and at the very least it's a great way to build your business until you can afford 3dCoat, Zbrush, or one of the more expensive suites. Blender can be profitably integrated with these others as well, especially when it is used to base model and UV map and they are used for sculpting and painting; but that's a discussion for another day.[Tutorial] G1G2 Clothing in Blender 111 months ago in Personal More Like This

Making A Living at DAZ3DEvery so often someone asks if this is possible, how hard this is, and how to do it. I'm writing this journal entry so I can just link them back to it instead of typing the same post or forum PM repeatedly.Making A Living at DAZ3D1 year ago in Personal More Like This
I'm putting these down in the order they are usually asked, not in the order I think they should be asked.
Q: How much money can I make?
A: I make a good living for a single person in the Western USA selling in the DAZ market. I also sell at Renderosity, but I would describe that as a "hobby" or "bonus" income; it would be hard to do without it, but it's not what pays the rent every month, either. For the most part you will make back according to the time you put in. Only a few top artists get into six figures in American dollars in our market, and they are the biggest names who sell the biggest products.
Q: Can I do it in my spare time?
A: Not if you want to make a living. We do have hobbyist artists at DAZ3D, for whom this is a second i

In this section we'll talk about creating custom icons and morphs.
From Parts 1 through 4 you should have:
-A textured and rigged clothing item with materials set up that use your diffuse, bump, and high-resolution displacement maps. It should already be saved to your People/Genesis or Genesis 2 Male or Female/Clothing/YourName/Your Item folder, and there should already be a Your Item/Materials folder with at least one material in it.
-A good handle on edit mode and sculpting meshes in Blender. I will cover some commands, but not basic navigation

[Tutorial] Transferring Character Morphs G1 to G2(Updated for new features in DS 4.6.2.)[Tutorial] Transferring Character Morphs G1 to G21 year ago in Personal More Like This
I've been hearing a fair amount of complaints about Genesis 2 Female lately, and I understand; I said many of the same things when it first came out. I should've known better, because I also did this when Genesis came out, but sometimes we live and learn slower than we'd like.
One of the most common, and most easily answered, is "I already have a bunch of characters for G1 that I can't recreate on G2." For this purpose, G2 refers to Genesis 2, not the old Poser G2 figures.
Well, as a matter of fact, you can. With practice you can do it in seconds per FBM (don't let the length of the tutorial fool you). The first version of this workflow came from Kattey on the DAZ forum, for which I acknowledge credit.
Here is that (lengthy) thread: http://www.daz3d.com/forums/viewthread/24093/
Here's what I've been doing myself.
First of all, however: there are two ways to recreate a character. There is the easy wa

In this tutorial we will explore texturing and, more specifically, using Blender to create sculpted displacement.
From Part 1 and 2 you should have:
-A UV-mapped mesh, with materials assigned, at a poly count between 16k and 100k polygons (less is okay, more is not); at this point you should have done your "base" sculpt and it should look basically like a piece of clothing, not a paper cutout overlying the body. Buttons, lacing, etc. should be finished and a permanent part of the clothing, and you should have done your base rigging in DAZ Studio and saved it to the library as a .duf using the File--Save As--Support Assets--Figure/Pr
[Tutorial] G1G2 Clothing in Blender 2Here is Part 1.[Tutorial] G1G2 Clothing in Blender 211 months ago in Personal More Like This
In Part 2 we'll take a look at some good practices for the mid-poly stage of your mesh, creating materials, and how to get your mesh over to DAZ Studio.
To recap, at this point in Blender you should have a low-poly base mesh that is UV Mapped. If it is tightly overlying the body from use of snap tools, use alt+s to scale it along the normals away from the body. If this doesn't seem to work right, Ctrl+N recalculates normals outward and should fix it.
Make sure you assign one or more materials.
You can create materials using the right-hand panel. Click the round ball icon (the orange one more to the right, not the blue one more to the left) and click the "+ New" button. Clicking on the word "Material" next to the orange ball in the dialog that appears will let you give it a name. If you want to add more than one, just click the plus si
Morph Transfer Options Added to DS 462That's DAZ Studio 4.6.2, the latest version as of this writing.Morph Transfer Options Added to DS 46210 months ago in Personal More Like This
If you transfer morphs with Transfer Utility, you might previously have noticed that you have no option to only transfer SOME morphs. This can particularly be annoying with Genesis morphs, where you end up transferring hundreds and then have to sort out and save to library just the one you want.
Well, the newest version of DAZ Studio has an additional feature to help with this.
In the Parameters tab, when you've found the dial for a particular morph, right-click on it. One of your options is "Favorites." Hover over that and you can choose "Add Selected Properties to Favorites."
On most items, all morphs are not favorited by default, including Genesis. Mark just the morph or morphs you want to transfer as favorites in the manner described.
Now when you start Transfer Utility, uncheck everything but the "Morph Targets" option. You need to have the "Show Options" button checked to expand that par
Collection: Road TripCollection: Road Trip2 months ago in Art Features More Like This
From mass migrations of multitudes to solitary quests into college, wandering to see new places and people is as necessary to healthy human nutrition as daily meals. We base the appeal of nations on how easy they are to enter or exit. We think in terms of our own “freedom” in how quickly we could “up and leave” on short notice. Hitting the road has always been its own reward, regardless the destination. It’s as if nothing really exists until we’ve traveled there and seen it with our own eyes. The path to and from is part of everywhere on Earth.

I love that she does that, so why shouldn´t I try to do the same... because this is how we all grow, yes? Learning from each other is very important and I myself had wonderful teachers. Here is a little crash course about displacement mapping or better - how those are made and set up in Photoshop / Gimp and DAZ.
In Daz Studio, displacement maps work pretty much like bump maps. Light areas render as positive while dark areas render as negative. To make a map for veins on arms, for example, I load the limbs texture into Photoshop as a guide layer, create a transparent layer above it, and simply airbrush the veins (white) using the texture as a guide. Some textures have veins that are visible and very easy to follow, while others do not and you just have to kinda wing it. It always helps to look at photos of very defined
Daz Studio 4 Map Transfer Mini TutorialThe process is fairly simple. You load the desired texture on to Genesis in Daz Studio 4 (in which ever form, V5, M5 etc) Then under the 'Surfaces' Tab, select the icon in the top left corner of the window. Scroll down to Map Transfer. On the top left of the new window where it says 'Template' right click in the box area. Click 'New Template'. On the right side of the window is a list of the surfaces your current 3d model has. Daz have been very helpful here as they have numbered the relevant parts of the map that belong together. So it is then a process of Shift+Left Click each map region in turn. Once you have the whole group selected left click and drag them over to the Template1 that you created. Then change the 'Target UV Map to M4. You will need to have the Template1 selected to alter the 'Template Options' in the lower part of the window. I would advise a quality of 10, and dimensions of 4096. Then select an output directory. Here I would create yourself a dummy runtime in the PDaz Studio 4 Map Transfer Mini Tutorial3 years ago in Personal More Like This
How To Do A Quality Female Pinup In 3DelightI'm not going to give a "bad" example, because a lot of people who do terrible pinups are enthusiastic hobbyists, and there's no reason to hurt their feelings when they're really not trying to do this professionally. Still, one can always do better. The reason I'm going to talk about this is that pinups are a perennial visual topic in our medium, and one that is very often done very badly. How To Do A Quality Female Pinup In 3Delight3 months ago in Personal More Like This
I'm not saying this because I'm a heterosexual female, and not especially girly or fem myself; the human female body as an artistic subject is not offensive to me, nor is the fact that men like to look at pictures of sexy women. I like to look at sexy men, so as far as I'm concerned, all's fair. Here's me doing a male pinup and here's how I did it<
