Chalk brush for all purposes that I've made it from scratch since awhile ago. ( Actually it's so easy lol. I just painted the brush shape and texture then after defined it I adjusted the setting ) I like this one because I love chalk/pastel effect. So here I share it to you. ^_^
Download from >> "Download File" It's supposed to work fine for any version of PS since all the settings are basic. I'm currently using PS CS6 transfer option = other dynamic option = = = = =
As a brush - You can adjust opacity jitter / flow jitter option as you want or follow from my setting. You can also play around with texture option and add more effect to it. ( From what you see above I don't add the texture option yet, but it has some texture effect because the brush itself that I painted.)
Make it to soft chalk - At the brush option > Brush Tip Shape > set Spacing lower from 4%-10% and take scattering option off. Then at the Transfer/other dynamic option > Opacity Jitter at the *minimum* % (below controls option ) set to 10-20% instead of 50%

As a smudge brush - you can also use this one for smudge tool. Adjust scattering option like the setting from above is what I like the most. You are going to like it too I know!

As an eraser - I use as an eraser sometimes
Here are some sample work that I used this brush.
Try it and tell me how do you like. I hope you enjoy using it.
I've been asked many times from notes about the brushes that I use as well as request for .abr/.tpl file. So here they are . ^^ They are basic ones that I mostly use on my work, so I hope you enjoy using it.
How to put the .abr /.tpl (brush file) to Photoshop
> Extract from .zip > there are .abr and .tpl files
For .abr ( Normal brush present ) > At the top right of [Brush Present] window >> Present Manager >> Load brushes (.abr) file
For .tpl ( As a tool present) > At the top right of [Tool Present] window >> Load Tool Presents (.tpl) file
* Please save the current brushes and tools first in case you don't like my brushes ^_^
-- If you have any question or it doesn't work right please feel free to ask me! Also let me know your if you like it or not

As a follow up to my Texture Brushes as a thank You for the wonderful community full of creative and inspiring artists, I made these for you to have fun with! Those are currently my favourite brushes I work with, and they more or less happened in a same way how I usually create my art. It all starts with an idea and happens in a certain flow.
If you want to support me as a freelance artist and the brushes, a little chip in would help me a lot <3
Some brushes can be a pain in the bum to use especially because their texture and style is so distinctive that changing brushes whilst painting can turn into a negative part of creating an image for the starters among the digital artists.
So I tried to create brushes that are simple to use for shading, detailing, etc.
I hope you enjoy, my dears.
How to load brushes into your program:
- Select the brush tool or hit the key "B" to select the tool.
- Click next to the arrow of the shown brush on the upper tool bar to open the "Brush Preset Picker".
- click the small arrow on the right side next to where you see the pixel size.
- then select "Load Brushes" and choose the files.
- there you go! The brushes will be loaded underneath all your other brushes.
P.S:: You don't need to but it would be lovely (and also because I'm so curious) if you could link me your works for which you used these brushes. :]
Please do not redistribute or sell these brushes. Thank you!
These brushes are for Photoshop, and the above video will explain the setup and format of the brushes, which need to display as large thumbnails, with 9 brushes per row.
They are a combination of brushes I've made myself and those culled from friends, colleagues, and other great artists. A lot of them might have bizarre names, but they're all categorized so it shouldn't be a problem.
I've been getting requests from people all around to share the brushes I use for my illustrations! Here are the brushes I use for basically -everything- when I paint. Some of them I've created myself, and others I've gathered from other sets through the years.
Edit: I've done a live demo on how I use this smudge set and how the smudge tool behaves, the video will be put up in a couple of days on my new YouTube channel here: www.youtube.com/johnsilvaart , keep your eyes peeled!
By popular demand, you guys wanted more, so here's more 27 smudge brushes. I created these brushes from scratch (Apart from 3 of them, sorry for not saying who, I just don't remember) due to the fact that I want to take my work have a more painterly feel.. Most of you know that I use smudge tool 90% of the time in my paintings, so this only made sense.
If you share these around, please make sure to put my DA link along with it, these took a lot of time to make and refine.
(I will make a youtube video on how I personally use them in my professional work, I'll edit this section out with a link to it when I'm done.)
Quick Tip's on how to use it: - Put the smudge tool strength on 100% - Apart from the top 3 brushes, for the most part if you want a nice texture, try to only tap with you tablet pen when using a smudge brush, the random setting will create a better mark of the texture. - It works best in contrasty areas of your painting
How to load it: - Right click on a canvas. - Click on the cog wheel icon (or arrow depending on the PS ver.) . - Select load brushes. - Pick John Silva Smudge Pack Painter Edition.abr file. - ???. - Painterly profit!
