Did You Know - BlockingBlockingDid You Know - Blocking1 year ago in Art Features More Like This
While many people tend to report other deviants they don't get along with or they feel harassed by to the HelpDesk right away, your first action should always be blocking.
Whatever reason you have to report someone, by blocking you avoid any further communication with certain deviants.
This action is immediate, as you don't have to wait for any staff member to take action and you can just enjoy your dA experience without that blocked deviant.
Personal reasons like disagreeing on a topic, not liking someone or similar won't end with a ban of that other deviant.
Contacting the HelpDesk just adds to the queue of tickets unnecessarily and makes it more time consuming to focus on important reports.
Only in case of serious harassment you should contact the HelpDesk.
If you are blocking someone it's an action in both directions. That means that not only the other person gets blocked from you, but you are automatically blocked for them as well.

There is no "right way" to make a species. There are TONS of variables that might affect your success (in sales). Nothing here should be taken literally. It's only my opinion & personal methods!
Not in it for Money
I DO NOT recommend people make an OS for the specific reason that they want to make money.
It's fine to want a little bit of spending money or something in the mindset of a little side-project. But if you go into this market with the expectation of making a living & supporting yourself off of this?
You're very likely to be disappointed, cause yourself unnecessary stress, and possibly make yourself feel like a failure, when you absolutely are not.

A solution to sfl.dll file missing for SAIOk, here goes my first journal (bear with me, I'm kinda bad at explaining things)A solution to sfl.dll file missing for SAI1 year ago in Personal More Like This
I'm kinda lazy and didn't want to re-install SAI to fix this bug like the website said to, and other people said that didn't work anyway, so I decided to work things out on my own.
First of all, I've got a Windows 8, sorry Macs, I don't really know if this could work for you...
So I go to open one of my SAI files, and the message pops up reading something like: Error, cannot open program because sfl.dll file is missing. Huh, I could still open SAI, but not an individual project. So I went to Google, but I found nothing (except for download links, but those can be iffy). Then I looked for the sfl.dll file myself and actually found it the Paint Tool Sai folder in C:\Program Files (x86), then I copied the file (maybe the file belongs somewhere else?).
I noticed if I tried right-clicking an individual SAI project and clicked "Open with", the SAI program

How to make new friendsMaking friends on dA is something requires you to have an open personality. Having an open personality isn't always something people are born with. Some people have to develop it over time, and some people are just naturally friendly. It's a wonderful quality to have in real life and on the internet. How to make new friends2 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
I'm gonna help you break the barrier of your timidness toward others. It won't be something that happens over night but with time and perseverance, you'll start see how friendlier you are to people on deviantART and in real life!
So to start us off.. You will need to...
Greet the person!
(Yeah but nobody is as cute as stitch is. xD)
Don't be shy. You'll never know what they would have said if they didn't. A simple "hello" or "hey" will suffice. Compliments are nice too but don't go overboard with it. Don't be nervous or overanxious of what you or they are going to say. Everything flows easier if you be yourself instead of trying

When I was in college, I took an early morning Anthropology class. I had to wake up at five to catch the bus. Ugh. Yeah, I'm not a morning person. But I did it. The first day, our instructor stood before us and starting reading from the textbook. Word for word. Completely monotone. I was asleep within ten minutes. The rest of the week was the same; arrive, begin listening to the instructor, pass out. I had to drop the class and get whatever refund I could, while I could. It was my worse class experience there.
Most people know that in public speaking, the person talking needs to vary their tone and speech patterns and such to hold their audience's attention. They need to have a rhythm. Otherwise, they'll end up putting the audience to sleep. The same applies to writing. If you use the same sentence length or structure continually, you'll be the literary equivalent of my instructor. Swiggity Swag Adoptables Tips 'n Tricksoi oi so i've had a few people asking for some tips on making / selling adoptables qvq i'm not a profesh adoptable maker or anything, but here's some things i've learned after making adoptables for a little while ♥Swiggity Swag Adoptables Tips 'n Tricks4 months ago in Personal More Like This
♦ Selling Tips ♦
1. In case ya didn't know, dA actually has a category for adoptables found here:
2. Don't under price yourself! if you've spent a while designing an adoptable and really like how it turned out, don't be afraid to charge a bit more for it ♥ if someone really likes a design, they won't tell you to lower the price. If you start raising your prices though, adoptables will most likely take longer to sell ( especially if your watchers are used to buying lower priced adopts ) but don't lose hope / reduce the prices if they don't sell right off the bat!
3. Don't over price yourself either! some adoptable makers can afford to sell their design
Dragon Sculpting Tutorial on YouTube!Alright guys here you go! I finally made a video of me making one of my dragons. The video is pretty long, about an hour, so watch it when you have some time to veg and watch some sculpting. I was going to just make it a time-lapse, but ended up narrating the whole thing, so instead you get to listen to me babble on about sculpting for an hour while I'm making the dragon. It was actually pretty fun to make, so I think I'll make a pony one in the near future as well!Dragon Sculpting Tutorial on YouTube!3 years ago in Personal More Like This

Line art tracing and referencing part 2Feel free to disagree with what I have to say this is just my personal opinion on the matter.Line art tracing and referencing part 21 year ago in Personal More Like This
The first post was not about completely dismissing using photo referencing for learning. But it is what most young artist use to get started, since its a little less frustrating then trying to start out doing realistic anatomy. Referencing other artist work helps them get their feet wet in a since and just have fun with drawing.
And when I say young artist I mean young in skill level, you can be a artist starting out at the age of 17 doesn't mean you should be forced to use realistic anatomy just yet or ever, if your just doing it for fun then you don't have to worry about it as much. But if you post it online, you will be judged depending how popular you are, so just be aware of that.
If you are seriously about your work, you should try to jump into real anatomy as soon as you feel comfortable with drawing freely without the aide of a visual toon re

How to: Make thumbs big in features?I get this asked a lot!How to: Make thumbs big in features?3 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Back when they introduced sta.sh, I didn't really use it. Because it seemed hard to get used to. I always wrote my articles in the old way.
Then I toyed with it a little and noticed that is is something really awesome!
Not to mention that the only way to make articles and journals is through Sta.sh Writer.
So I assume not so many if you know that there is a way to make thumbs big!
That is actually pretty easy. All you have to do is add big in front of a thumb code!

Exercise 19: BraidingTHIS WEEK's EXERCISE POST : THE FULL POST AND DETAILSExercise 19: Braiding2 years ago in Personal More Like This
EXERCISE: Create 5 examples of braiding on the given worksheet
Braiding is more than just a hairstyle for girls. Braiding refers to the overlapping and look of intersecting strands whether it be hair, leather, chain link, etc. This is a simple exercise one you understand the way different strands lay over each other. This isn’t to say men can’t have braids either. Look at the Lord of the Ring movies for example, and how they treat braids on male characters. The “look” of braiding can also be found in armor, clothing, and accessories. It is a simple yet basic skill to have at your disposal.
What should you look at for doing this exercise?
What “trick” you will use to remember how to place the braids. Either remember the zig-zig in the m
PE: ''Said'' and Effective Dialogue TagsI have horrifying news, everyone: I'm teaming up with Project Educate for Prose Week, so you inquisitive readers are about to fall victim to me and my terrible sense of humor. Today I'll be torturing you with a discourse on a subject of constant debate in the writing world: the word said. It's a simple word that encourages authors to write descriptively, but it's far from the only good choice when it comes to writing fluid dialogue.PE: ''Said'' and Effective Dialogue Tags2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
I'm going to be using the word dialogue tag often, so if you're unfamiliar with the word or just need a refresher, here's the definition:
Dialogue Tag—a phrase used in the same paragraph as a piece of dialogue, both (1) identifying the speaker and (2) using a verb to describe the speech. Examples of dialogue tags include Rose said, he begged, Adrian whispered, and she asked.
Get the picture? If so, great, and if not, you'd better Google it, because we're moving on.
Anything besides 'said' and 'ask

Studying realism would be a good first step. Even if you want to work in, say, a comic book style, you need to have a handle on realistic drawing. Knowing realism will help you improve your drawings a lot. Let's say you want to get better at dragons, you could study lizards and snakes for the body structure and birds and bats for wing structure. Dinosaurs as well, but those are a little hard to find nowadays.

Rooke's Character Building ExerciseThis was something I came up with when I was bored yesterday, and it turned out pretty fun. So you're welcome to try it.Rooke's Character Building Exercise2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Something very important to storytelling is creating unique, realistic characters who have thoughts, dreams, goals, and impressions all their own. Sometimes creating characters can be difficult if you don't know where to start, or if you can't seem to break out of certain stereotypes with your characters. So I made this little exercise in character building, just as a jump start to creating some random, interesting characters.
First, we have our two columns - TRAITS, and ROLES. A trait is an adjective. A role is a job or a "purpose" a character has. Most good characters have complex purposes and roles that they fill, far more than a single all encompassing word. But you can use these as starting points to creating characters.
What I did was make a list of 32 "traits" and "roles", whatever I could think of off the top of my head, that could be applied to stories of

How to fix no pressure sensitivity On SAIPlease follow the steps and all of them please. ( follow me on my other account :iconyuir0How to fix no pressure sensitivity On SAI2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I have a theory on why pressure goes off on sai. It's because people leave sai without returning smoothing or stabilizer 0 . In Some cases people put their min size on brushes to 100 %.
Now because of your bad habits you have to follow these steps for sai to return to normal.
Step one- Open sai tool paint. ( if you don't have it open)
Step two- Go through all the brushes and put min size to 0 on all brushes.
step three- Click Other (o)>Option (o)
step four- On digitizer click option mouse instead of pen. (do with no question)than okay
Step five- Put smoothing/stabilizer to 0
Step six- exit out of sai and close all programs.
Step seven- Restart your computer
Step eight - Do step three again when you have sai open. ( go to options)
step nine- On Digitizer click pen option and than okay.
step ten- put smoothing/stabilizer to s-7 to see if this

I'm including the rarely shared embarrassing Youtube video that my daughter Charlotte helped me make. It's what got me invited to the Martha Stewart show. I just realized, the only place I've linked it to is a friends-locked LiveJournal entry so it's a well kept secret. This shows how to make a simplified unicorn mask. I didn't do any carving because that's too complicated for most Sunday-morning crafters. Charlotte and I edited the heck out of it. We had 30 minutes of footage and cut it down to just a fraction of that. She did an awesome job. ^_^ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=obE333UphPg
The 101 Guide To Digital Painting Hardware #1An input device for a computer seems to be a no-brainer, mouse, trackpad, keyboard all there but ...err, wait what? A graphic tablet is missing or should I get a pen display? The 101 Guide To Digital Painting Hardware #11 year ago in Personal More Like This
This guide is based on my personal experience and opinion, I´m in no way affiliated with any of these companies and I try to be as objective as possible.
As instructor but also on conventions, I often get asked what hardware, tablet or other input devices I use and what I´d recommend for someone just starting out.
Until 2013 I´d nearly always have said: "Go get a Wacom", but the competition and the tablet market is developing so fast that there are more products out there than ever and artists can be overwhelmed by the sheer volume and opinions.
I will just offer some options and add a comment or two that may help you decide.
Let´s stick with the basics:

PE Prose Basics: Hear Me My Audience!!Hello everyone!PE Prose Basics: Hear Me My Audience!!2 years ago in Literature Features More Like This
Throughout this week we will be discussing a variety of elements in prose writing and this topic is something which isn't just relevant to prose writers, but can be applied to all forms.
Imagine your piece of work is laid out on a stage for people to read. In the seats are the people who you want to read it- who are they? Can you see their faces, imagine their lives? Why have they been drawn to come see your work and read your story? What did you to to keep that audience sat down and interested in your work? Did you think about them when you wrote?
An audience is anyone who could potentially read your work. In writing, we talk about "target audience" and how understanding that audience can help shape the way you write. That intended audience could be specified by age, interests, personalities, cultural background, religion- anything! Of course you may gain readers outside of that target group, but considering your audience will involve your reader in the wr
