How to get more watchers, views, comments +more.(you WONT get famous from this, please.)How to get more watchers, views, comments +more.2 years ago in Personal More Like This
So I always get a lot of questions asking how I have soo many watchers or so many faves or so many comments or so many whatever else! I have been on this site for about 6years or so now, and during that time i have evolved as an artist, and I have also changed as a person.
People on here always tell me how "jealous" they are of me, which I dont see at all. I am only here to draw art and improve myself. I really am not here for the attention, even though I thoroughly appreciate it (dont get me wrong!)
Every person has something their good at, better than someone else. Even if you haven't found it yet there is something that YOU are good at believe me!
It has taken me a long time to get my "art" to what it is today. Am I 100% happy with it? NO. But will I continue trying and improving in the hope that one day I will reach my goals.
So should you. So Maybe this will help you get more noticed on here I dunno, but I guess continue reading if you do!

Tips on: How to make an original species?I got asked by a few people but I wrote out this response to jasper-chan's ask on my tumblr. since it's all written out I feel like it'd be at least somewhat appreciated to those who are curious of what I keep in mind while making an original speciesTips on: How to make an original species?1 year ago in Personal More Like This
WARNING it's a little messy but if you are confused then feel free to ask me questions I'll do my best to answer properly
In general I’d suggest to think "what physical characteristics should be involved with my species? and how can i make it unique?"
for a species to be a species (especially closed species) there should be at least some distinctive physical trait that they're born with.
imo it’s not a very good species if they can take off what would make them a species. for example, a group of kemonomimis that likes to wear a specific fashion is more of a culture than a species. I wouldn’t add their fashion into their main descrip
character design/personality tips!!!this is for cartooning, and stuff like that.character design/personality tips!!!1 year ago in Personal More Like This
ok so i decided to share some things that I've learned about creating characters that are original…
this will be a process/ step by step "tutorial", and for it ill take you through development of this character i made up a while ago but never posted lol.
1. think about the character's personality.
personality is like
the most important thing ever
the never-posted character's personality was
-quiet /// antisocial
-blindly follows orders // not very bright
-seems like a pushover but not afraid to defend himself
tips on personality:
- DONT make your character a mary sue. for a definition of a mary sue go here: http://fav.me/d399c5
- also, dont make your characters have no good qualities. they should be bad at some things and good at other things.
- dont make your character generic!!!
yay!! u have a personality…but no design to go with it. its time for the fun part!!!!
Step by Step : My Pixel BasicsStep by Step : My Pixel Basics2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
I've had people from time to time ask me how I pixel, and I've never really been sure how to explain. It hasn't been until the past few years that i've really thought too much about what I was doing beyond experimenting and learning new things. I think I've rounded out some basic guidelines I usually follow and a friend wanted some advice so I decided to attempt some sort of explanation
Below are some step by step images and commentary. Please note that there is no one right way to create a piece of art. This Step by Step is meant only to impart some understanding of how I do things . In Pixel art alone there are many many 'styles'. I encourage anyone reading to look up more than one tutorial and seek critique if trying to learn their own pixel style.
Please excuse any spelling mistakes, and take note that I use Photoshop 7.0, but the same principals sh
Did You Know - BlockingBlockingDid You Know - Blocking1 year ago in Art Features More Like This
While many people tend to report other deviants they don't get along with or they feel harassed by to the HelpDesk right away, your first action should always be blocking.
Whatever reason you have to report someone, by blocking you avoid any further communication with certain deviants.
This action is immediate, as you don't have to wait for any staff member to take action and you can just enjoy your dA experience without that blocked deviant.
Personal reasons like disagreeing on a topic, not liking someone or similar won't end with a ban of that other deviant.
Contacting the HelpDesk just adds to the queue of tickets unnecessarily and makes it more time consuming to focus on important reports.
Only in case of serious harassment you should contact the HelpDesk.
If you are blocking someone it's an action in both directions. That means that not only the other person gets blocked from you, but you are automatically blocked for them as well.

EXPERIMENT RESULT (HOW TO GET POPULAR ON DA)So for the last couple of days iw been researching a couple of things regarding popularity on da, and what people likes, and watches you for. And id like to publish the result.EXPERIMENT RESULT (HOW TO GET POPULAR ON DA)2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Just so you know, getting popular on da don't really help you improve ur art skills wish to me is the most important thing of all.
First of all, i hawe to tell you that i named submissions after the style i used, for example:
Submission 1A here and submission 1D
The 1A style is Thin line-arted with colorful shadows, and 1D is semi realism.
The 1A style allowed me to produce more art a day (since it takes less time to produce).
I submited around 2 a day and gained 8 watchers a day. But not much comments and favs. Since The 1A submissions where so close in date, my watchers could not comment on all of em.
But the styleA FAN ART got much more attention.
Fan art gets more attention since they often have huge fan bases. So when people

When I was in college, I took an early morning Anthropology class. I had to wake up at five to catch the bus. Ugh. Yeah, I'm not a morning person. But I did it. The first day, our instructor stood before us and starting reading from the textbook. Word for word. Completely monotone. I was asleep within ten minutes. The rest of the week was the same; arrive, begin listening to the instructor, pass out. I had to drop the class and get whatever refund I could, while I could. It was my worse class experience there.
Most people know that in public speaking, the person talking needs to vary their tone and speech patterns and such to hold their audience's attention. They need to have a rhythm. Otherwise, they'll end up putting the audience to sleep. The same applies to writing. If you use the same sentence length or structure continually, you'll be the literary equivalent of my instructor. Do you do trades? Not anymore really!
CAN YOU DRAW ME SOMETHING?? No sorry! Time is money
commissions? check my journals or the link on my profile.
How long have I been pixeling?
-Since late 2011.
How do you achive such soft looking shading on your pixels? Do you stick only to the pencil/fill tools, or do you utilize brushes?
Or do you just use enough colors to make it blend nicely?
-OPACITY there I spilled the beans countless times now.. opacity with the pencil tool. It just helps me finish pixels faster and keeps me in touch with my painterly-side lol.
I DONT USE THE DAMN BRUSH TOOL. JUST LEARN TO USE THE PENCIL TOOL'S OPACITY SETTINGS. ITS AMAZING...
smooths everything out. but leaves it pixelated. If you use the brush tool. im pretty sure its gonna look blurry
What program do you use?
-photoshop cs3, I suggest you learn photoshop cuz I love it/plus its free lol
What inspires you to make pixel art/ how did you get into pixel art?
Tips on original speciesBasically, everything I say in here is merely my opinion and you do not have to follow anything I say. I'm just giving tips here because a lot of the "species" out there are making me kind of tired. A lot of them look very similar (in the end 80% at least is just dogs/cats/foxes/whatever with some stuff slapped on it).Tips on original species1 year ago in Personal More Like This
1) Don't just make a species just because everyone else is doing it. Not everyone needs to own a species, and if you have no ideas for them, why would you make one? Bad reasons to make a species are the following:
- All my friends/idols have a species of their own
- I wanna earn money and hope people are willing to spend good money on my designs with minimal effort from my part (think: generic designs that sell because the species chart says it's "rare", Make Your Own's, etc.)
- I wanna prevent people from making a similar character to mine because my character is kind of generic so I wanna find a way to protect my originality
Some better reasons:
- I've had this idea fo

Swiggity Swag Adoptables Tips 'n Tricksoi oi so i've had a few people asking for some tips on making / selling adoptables qvq i'm not a profesh adoptable maker or anything, but here's some things i've learned after making adoptables for a little while ♥Swiggity Swag Adoptables Tips 'n Tricks2 months ago in Personal More Like This
♦ Selling Tips ♦
1. In case ya didn't know, dA actually has a category for adoptables found here:
2. Don't under price yourself! if you've spent a while designing an adoptable and really like how it turned out, don't be afraid to charge a bit more for it ♥ if someone really likes a design, they won't tell you to lower the price. If you start raising your prices though, adoptables will most likely take longer to sell ( especially if your watchers are used to buying lower priced adopts ) but don't lose hope / reduce the prices if they don't sell right off the bat!
3. Don't over price yourself either! some adoptable makers can afford to sell their design
User Styles: Lesson IIBecause there is so much interest in UserStyles but not enough people who actually work on such or know how to create them, this little tutorial series will try to change that. Adding, deleting, modifying UserStyles
Before you can change websites via UserStyles you need to add them to your Stylish. The easiest way is doing that by installing a style you like. Therefore you just have to go to userstyles.org, seach for a style you like and click that green install button.
Once you click the button, a new window will pop up and informs you about the site the selected style will affect. You then
Poetry Basics: BrevityBrevity: n. the quality of expressing much in few words.Poetry Basics: Brevity2 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
When I was in tenth grade, I took my first literature course. It was a six week exploration of poetry. The first poem my teacher showed us was Ezra Pound's In a Station of the Metro:
The apparition of faces in the crowd;
Petals on a wet, black bough.
I, in all of my 16-year-old knowledge of the intricacies of what poetry is, informed my teacher that those two lines were not a poem.
"You don't think so?"
"No. They don't rhyme, they are just one metaphor, and did I mention they're only two lines?"
She sure showed me.
Importance in Poetry
Pound's poem is considered such a great work because he inserts several layers into a single image. Using only 13 words he evokes an entire painting within the reader's mind. You can hear the sounds of the trains, see the fatigue of a mother wrestling with her cranky toddler,
Did You Know - Thumbs CodeThumbs CodeDid You Know - Thumbs Code1 year ago in Art Features More Like This
Whenever you do a feature or maybe want to link to a certain deviation the thumbs code is a very handy feature. It allows your viewers to see a smaller version of what you are referring to directly.
But did you know that there are several ways to make thumbs appear?
The most common way is to grab the thumbs code from the sidebar of a deviation.
That way you will get a little preview no bigger than 150x150px.
Another thing you can do is to create a big thumb. For that you just need to add 'big' to the thumbcode, like :bigthumb###:
For our example it will look like this.
Big thumbs will get no bigger than 300x300px.
Alongside those and thanks to AddMedia and Sta.sh you also vary the size on your own.
Either choose deviations from the AddMedia sidebar and make use of the transformation corners or use this code

There are really only two steps required from you in order to bring a new tokota into the Tokotas world.
If you're about to follow them, odds are, you own a genotype bought from either a member, or the group.
For those who don't know, your genotype outlines the genetics of your tokota, and provides a guideline for it's appearance (and the appearance of it's future offspring) in a handy string of letters.
If you're planning to design the genotype yourself, some knowledge of genetics may come in handy. For this, we recommend looking at horse genetics to give yourself a head start. Even though Tokota genetics are not entirely the same as horses or dogs, this will be useful for understanding the basics.
Step one: Designing

Line art tracing and referencing part 2Feel free to disagree with what I have to say this is just my personal opinion on the matter.Line art tracing and referencing part 21 year ago in Personal More Like This
The first post was not about completely dismissing using photo referencing for learning. But it is what most young artist use to get started, since its a little less frustrating then trying to start out doing realistic anatomy. Referencing other artist work helps them get their feet wet in a since and just have fun with drawing.
And when I say young artist I mean young in skill level, you can be a artist starting out at the age of 17 doesn't mean you should be forced to use realistic anatomy just yet or ever, if your just doing it for fun then you don't have to worry about it as much. But if you post it online, you will be judged depending how popular you are, so just be aware of that.
If you are seriously about your work, you should try to jump into real anatomy as soon as you feel comfortable with drawing freely without the aide of a visual toon re
