the flowers in your hair
were actually weeds,
and your promises
were already broken
before you made them.

The Day I Meet FateA Terza Rima PoemThe Day I Meet Fate2 years ago in Scraps More Like This
It was time to go my baggage weighed a ton
She said she had plans and left me behind
I should've seen it coming but what was done was done
She left me for others and left me in a bind
It showed her lack of respect as if I was her slave
She mocked me, humiliated me, and made me hate myself in my own mind
Yet this time was different it was when our friendship went to a grave
She laughed at me, hated me, made fun of me and my self esteem she stole
One person ended this cycle I know not her name but she took me out from this dark cave
She was a stranger but what she did put out the embers of my pains coal
she may not know how much she did helping me that day so great
But from that day on my life has changed I am happy and my life is whole
I may not know her birth given name but I do know one thing that day I meet Fate.

old-fashioned in porcelain
and linoleum tiles.
grandma's snowy hair
bounces in fluffed curls
as she stirs the antique bowl
of creamy mashed potatoes.
her knitted wool socks
carefully step over
drops of melted butter,
and she whistles a tune
I don't recognize,
her eyes milky with cataracts
and her fingernails trim and cracked
on the spoon.
