How to draw during 365 daysHow to draw during 365 days3 months ago in Deviant Events More Like This
By the beginning of 2014 I started this account and uploaded a doodle a day during a year. It was the most challenging thing I ever did and it helped me loads on improving my art.
I've seen a lot of mentions on my inbox about artists that are starting their own 365 Days challenge and I want to write this journal to share what I've learned through my experience and maybe encourage some of you to join this long term journey.
It's okay to start simple!
My first doodles were waaay more simple than the other ones. If I had to start the project again I would still do them simple. Of course, starting this challenge is very exciting but it's a dead end if you put a heavy load on yourself at the beginning!
Focus on knowing your pace first. How much time does it take you to finish your drawings?
How to beat procrastination (part 1)As I said on a previous submission, I'm planning to make some tutorials on the upcoming December. Before that, however, I feel like I can help on another subject, which comes before even starting your drawing: Procrastination. I mean, procrastination towards your own drawings. How to beat procrastination (part 1)4 months ago in Deviant Events More Like This
If you're not familiar with this word:
pro-cras-ti-na-tion |prəˌkrastəˈnāSHən, prō-|
"the action of delaying or postponing something."
Why am I talking about this?
Well, a year ago I used to be a professional procrastinator. I've imposed the 365 Days of Doodles challenge to myself for this particular reason.
While procrastination is to some degree a natural phenomenon and can’t be completely eradicated, you can use the following strategies to get in the habit of getting drawings done.
Mind that these are not golden rules or such, just strategies that work fo
How to beat procrastination (part 2)Most of the excuses for not drawing is lacking of ideas. On part 1 of this journal I explained why I find it useful to keep a notebook with you, and to write down your ideas whenever possible. How to beat procrastination (part 2)4 months ago in Deviant Events More Like This
This second part is about developing the habit of drawing. Hope you find it useful!
Create the habit of drawing
First thing to know about creating new habits is that it works kinda like inertia law:
"An object at rest will remain at rest unless acted on by an unbalanced force. An object in motion continues in motion."
Which means that the more you postpone your drawings the more you'll feel like delaying them. This procrastination abyss can be endless. For instance, I didn't draw anything in 2013 until the end of August when I bought my fi

Thank you very much everyone who joined the challenge. It's interesting to see how this challenge required mostly creativity and determination rather than just art skill. Congratulations to all of those who managed to finish, I'm very proud to see that many of you did
As promised, I chose 7 of my favorite projects and I'll reward them with a free request doodle by me! Here they are (be sure to check out their galleries!!):
I've chosen :iconreenacat: and :iconarbitrary-means: to win the 200 points!

My deviantART StoryMy deviant story is not one of the longest, I'm here since January 24th. As you may already know, I have started 2014 with the objective of drawing 1 doodle a day. For the whole year. (:My deviantART Story8 months ago in Art Features More Like This
My first deviation, doodle #1
Everything started as a very personal project on my Instagram account. I admit I was a bit afraid of joining dA and submitting my project in here.
In part, that was because I don't think I can express myself in English as well as I can with my main language - which is Portuguese. Another reason was that I came across deviantART through very famous deviations so I used to see dA as a fancy art gallery, not as a digital community.
guess which artwork first got me into dA? Yep, Yuumei's Countdown.
I was on high school when I discovered this site. It took me some time to figure out how deviantART really worked.
The Art of Plagarism (art theft/brand discussion)This is going to be one of those more thought-provoking journals, where I get to tie in real news articles to how the online community operates. If you are able to read through this entire journal, mad props, because it's going to give you some mental floss to work with. I always like starting up a good topic of conversation, so chime in with the comments. The Art of Plagarism (art theft/brand discussion)1 year ago in Personal More Like This
I stumbled across this article after sifting through my daily news rounds (i'm a junkie when it comes to it).
In the event you do not care to go through the entire article, I can summarize it:
Artist Chris Foss is a book illustrator who made a particular work for a sci-fi novel. At a later date, another, much more prominent artist, Glenn Brown, made mi
So you've decided to talk to an artistHey everybody, this is going around over on tumblr, but I feel like it's just as relevant here and it's a really good informational post for people that have/want to have good dealings and interactions with online artists. Because seriously, these are really good things to know. (I mean, I've been pestered by almost all of these at some point or another, and if people had read these they might have saved me a lot of annoyance) So give it a read if you'd like. The original post comes from www.phantom42.tumblr.comSo you've decided to talk to an artist1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Don’t tell an artist, “SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!" or "I would totally buy that!" if you’re not ready and/or willing to back it up with an actual purchase. Artists love that you love the piece, but often produce pieces/quantities based on apparent interest and potential customers. Gauges of potential buyers and gauges of general interest are both very important, but they are very different.
The Project365 Days of Doodles is a project in which I should make 1 drawing for each day of 2014. When I started this deviantART account I was already in the 24th doodle (I've been submitting my work since the first day of January on my Instagram account). The Project1 year ago in Personal More Like This
I decided to upload all the 24 doodles in a row, after that I'll submit 1 drawing per day as I finish each one of them. Hope you like my work so far!
Artists on Writers - No. 5, Charles DickensArtists on Writers - No. 5, Charles Dickens3 months ago in Art Features More Like This
Issue No. 5|Archives
Charles Dickens wrote “A Christmas Carol” in 1843, the story that has ever since come to embody, as has the entire legendary life of its author.
The true spirit and eternal hope for a more prosperous and more just coming new year that the best sentiments of the winter holiday season have always been all about. Dickens was the champion of the poor and downtrodden, never forgetting the humiliation of his father being thrown into debtor’s prison, which precipitated the young boy’s forced abandonment of school in order to work in a factory. The illiterate poor returned Dickens’s love and affection, paying their hard-earned half-pennies just to have the monthly installments of his latest novel read to them from the newspaper.
7 Days Drawing Challenge! (closed)Here we go! Firstly, I know time zones may be a problem. It's Wednesday 18, June, 13:00 o'clock where I live. The challenge starts counting from now on. Thankfully, DeviantART lets me know when the deviation was submitted. (:7 Days Drawing Challenge! (closed)9 months ago in Deviant Events More Like This
I'm amazed with the amount of people interested in joining the challenge. It must be started today in order to be finished next Wednesday. If you can't join for any reason, don't worry! I'll be doing more Drawing Challenges in the future.
What's a 7 Days Drawing Challenge?
The challenge is drawing 7 different things based on 7 themes I will give you guys. A drawing a day. I know it may sound a bit tiring but the objective is to keep yourself inspired during 7 days in a row. The more you draw, the more you'll feel like drawing!
What about the Rules?
The only rule is that you have to draw (and submit) something each day. NO CHEATING! It doesn't matter the media nor the ar

so, this july i am starting death vigil, published by image/top cow. it will be a monthly series limited to three 8-issue arcs, so there is a definitive ending. with this i have learned some of the things about publishing independent comics, and i am planning a video with some tips after i summarize my experiences. hopefully it will prove helpful for others to get their stuff published
but apparently rule 1 is promote preorders. preorders are crucial for independent books as they define the print runs, and are crucial to the sucess of the book.. so.. as my far more experienced friends told me to do....
death vigil is preorderable ...pretty much in any place or webstore that carries US comics.
you can find an extensive preview to issue 1 and much more here

World Building Tips(somewhat Nuzlocke Specific)World Building Tips5 months ago in Personal More Like This
A lot of people have asked me about how I world-build and I get a lot of comments about it so I guess... I do pretty well???
So I'm going to attempt to explain my thought-process and process for world-building:
World-building basically comes down to doing your homework.
No seriously- make and fill in a worksheet for yourself (I’ll be posting mine for you guys to use if you want to).
Think it through- all aspects of it. And when you answer your questions, consider the theme of your nuzlocke. Your world and plot should follow the same theme and I think that's how you make it interesting?? Like, don't try to be edgy and interesting- just connect the dots in realistic ways.
In the case of The Fall, it has a pretty distinct dark undertone- so all of my answers had to reflect that, on the surface, things might look okay, but this is canonically a world where there’s one visible police officer/government official who is completely useless and it’
PE: Taking care of your drawingsTraditional Art WeekPE: Taking care of your drawings2 months ago in Art Features More Like This
There are countless tutorials on drawing, painting or anything else you fancy to create, but how about taking care of the finished picture? Here you might find a bunch of useful tips on how to take care of your drawing (taking care of paintings will be explained another time).
It's usually similar for the most kinds of media you might have used - as long as it's waterproof, fixative or hair spray will be enough. Some specific tools, such as ballpoint pens or some kinds of non-waterproof ink, might smudge during spraying and even more afterwards, so it's not recommended to save them that way.
Fixative or hair spray?
There are many opinions on both of them. Here are, however the facts: fixative is much more expensive than hair spray, it usually stinks awfully, and is considered the "pro" way to preserve the picture (uh oh). H

1. Judges were randomized, completely. We did not pick judges because we thought they would go easier/harder on you. You were assigned a judge through a generator, and that is it.
2. Be a good sport. I don't know why I have to say this, but we're all at least at that age where we can act appropriately, and not piss all over each other because we lost.
3. All judges are anonymous. Do not ask who did what. We're not going to tell you.
4. Because of a few issues popping up with the current judging format, we will be switching judging formats for the next round. We do not want to keep switching these on you, but let's be honest, you're our guinea pigs. So better figure out the bugs earlier than later.
5. If you lost, your Pokemon is dead. But you are not out of the OCT. Two losses mean that you are officially out of the tournament, unless stated otherwise.
6. I'd like to thank all of you for submitting something, a
