60 seconds interview with...Jo SchwabPhotographer Jo Schwab JoSchwab from Berlin has been on dA for the past three years. He is a very accomplished portrait photographer and his gallery shows a variety of portraits of women, in the "nude portrait" genre. He has received two DDs for "Olga" and for "Anesja" the latter a particularly stunning colour portrait of a black model. Jo has many fans and countless imitators but no one quite manages to match his uncanny ability to capture the undefinable.60 seconds interview with...Jo Schwab4 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Some of his best work is to be seen only on his website http://www.joschwab.com/ where he shows greater versatility than in the work posted in his dA gallery.
I have asked Jo a few questions. This is our first interview in a long time. Our "60 seconds interview with.." are meant to be short and to the point.
Send me a note if you would like to be interviewed or have suggestions for an interview.

Custom Breaking Bad FiguresCustom Breaking Bad Figures4 years ago in Personal More Like This
Last year I sculpted up a few portraits of Bryan Cranston as Walter White from my favorite show "Breaking Bad". I was finally able to put the finishing touches on 3 custom figures of Walt, all of which were given to the creators of the show this past week.
It's been a helluva lot of fun, and a tremendous thrill to get to meet the artists behind this terrific show that has been so inspiring to me. Kinder people you will not meet!
So here's a look at the finished custom figures. These were pieced together from various sources, using Hot Toys bodies, and clothes I found on ebay and then altered. The heads were all painted by some talented friends of mine, and they really brought Walt to life. It's been a lot of work to try and piece these together in my free time, but I really enjoyed doing it.
ps- A random winner was chosen from my last giveaway. I'll do another giveaway in the coming months, I'm sure. thanks!

1. Simple line sketch to rough out the pose and composition of the image.
2. Black and white quick render to determine what kind of lighting looks good. Sometimes I skip this step if I'm really confident.
3. Quick flat paint of local colors to determine what colors the lights and shadows should assume.
4. More rendering via simple painting, while integrating the line sketch into the final drawing.
5. Continue rendering and look out for alternate compositions that may look better.
6. Using various modification layers such as multiply, soft light, hard light etc, render out the lighting a bit more. Plus some final post-processing work to round it off.

This is a simple one guys! Our fighters must create a weapon using just the letter "Z" and nothing else. Your focus should be the letter "Z". Whether you go a calligraphic or custom lettering route is completely up to you.

Can you look in a mirror? And I don't mean look as in checking your hair, fixing your clothes. I mean, look in such a way you see your physical imperfections...as well as all the things that make you beautiful. Not judging, just looking. Seeing that you have acne, but you also have gorgeous eyes. Seeing the little bit of fat but also seeing the curves it gives you. Seeing your round arms but also seeing your strong legs. Can you look in a mirror?4 years ago in Personal More Like This
And don't stop there. Look deeper. Look to yourself. Are you brave enough to face and admit to all your faults? Are you humble enough to view all your talents and not blow them out of proportion? Can you, after that examination, feel proud when looking at yourself? Or do you feel defeated? Does that defeat make you want to change, or brings you so low you begin to degenerate?
Some say that people's exteriors should match their interiors. I admit, that would be just and fair- but it would also confuse people. Humans are not totally bad or totally evil. We have a bit of both within us. The
Copic Markers and Pony colorsI get a LOT of questions regarding what colors I use where when it comes to the ponies, and I keep saying I'm gonna make a little guide. Well, let's give it a shot.Copic Markers and Pony colors2 years ago in Personal More Like This
For the majority of my covers, I use Copic markers to color. Copics are light-fast, alcohol markers... not unlike a classic school marker, but higher quality. I prefer Copic over other brands primarily for a few reasons: Variable tips (markers, fine, brush, etc), better blending, and they can be refilled! This is the BIG selling point to me... this means you can buy the marker once, and continue to refill. It also means you can custom blend colors should you desire. Copics also guarantee that if you buy Y00 yellow, and then buy another down the line, the colors will match. I've bought the same marker color from other brands and had them not match. I will use other brands here and there for very specific colors or effects, but Copic is 99% of my marker work.
So... when I do a cover or whatever, I do basic ink lines first wit
PE: Tolerance Towards Daily DeviationsIf you're like me, one of the first things you do every morning is turn on the computer to check the DDs for the day, if you make this a habit sooner or later you'll see something featured that you won't like at all, making you spill your morning coffee all over the screen.PE: Tolerance Towards Daily Deviations3 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
Oh the crime! That poor coffee going to waste.
Before you hit the Caps Lock button and begin an essay about the drop of quality of DDs, stop. Take a deep breath, maybe walk around for a bit to cool down, and think about what you're going to do. To begin with, complaining about the DD leaving a comment is extremely disrespectful for the artist because most of the time, they didn't even ask to be featured. Instead, take a moment to consider why was it picked, DDs are chosen for far more than just being visually attractive, as the article Daily Deviations - The Myth and the Legend explained; we often look f

Last Words Are For Fools Who Haven't Said Enough
Threatening Emails (Mens Rights Activists are sad)I've noticed lately that internet forums like DA, youtube, and reddit are teeming with "Men's Rights Activists" who fight against feminism, say that women can't be gamers, try to downplay the significance of rape, deny the existence of gender wage gaps, and seem to spend every waking moment anonymously trolling and making up statistics about how men are really the one's shut out of politics and big business.Threatening Emails (Mens Rights Activists are sad)11 months ago in Personal More Like This
These people are the inheritors of a tradition of anti-women politics that is easy to trace back to the push in the last century to keep women from getting the right to vote, or more recently to have the right to be in the military.
They're on the wrong side of history, but there are plenty or racist and anti-gay "movements" for which that is equally true.
Feminism is the push for equal political, economic, and social rights for women. You have to willfully twist the meaning of that pretty hard to attack it.
More than that, though, I've discovered that any online

Opening the Darkest Door
I have recently come across a most disturbing phenomenon in my studies of the Diabolic Infestation of the Soul. It seems there is a most frightening psychological conundrum when considering the concept of demonic possession even the most remote possibility of reality upon our earthly plane is the notion that just believing it may be true could very likely be the spark needed for the Demon to discover, seek out, and ultimately inhabit its next vessel of evil: You.
From the Exorcist through Paranormal Activity, generation after generation of “believers” seem to have come to the reali
Quick Tips: On Referencing AnatomyReference from real life whenever possible.Quick Tips: On Referencing Anatomy4 years ago in Personal More Like This
When you reference or copy from another artist's studies/sketches/art, you may be copying their mistakes as well. Furthermore, an artist's studies are their notes and --just like with history or chemistry notes-- copying someone else's notes will not help you fully understand the material. To completely understand anatomy, you must take your own notes and build your own understanding through observation.
This is probably a no-brainer for many artists but... scruffynerfherder and I were talking about this last night, and with the increase of "anatomy studies" showing up on dA's front page, it's been on my mind. DA's resource category has some great material, but I also feel like there is a lot of misleading information taught by amateurs who really probably shouldn't be teaching things like shading or anatomy, because they have a less-than-stellar grasp on it themselves. I'm not trying to knock anyone here, but it's a bit tr
