Getting Your Art Seen: PlacementCommunity WeekGetting Your Art Seen: Placement5 months ago in Deviant Events More Like This
Groups aren't doing it for you, the thumbshare forum isn't doing it for you, the sharezone dAmn chat isn't doing it for you... You want someone to look at your art. After all, that's why you post it.
How many times has each of us thought that our postings are getting buried by others? Let's face it: there are over 32,000,000 accounts on this site, and 160,000 pieces are uploaded every day.
One thing to consider is where you're putting your work.
Don't I want to put it in the most popular section of the site?
Not really. I know that the first impulse is to put your work right where you think everyone's going to see it immediately. But with 160,000 works posted per day, if everyone posts it all in "digital" or "
Adoptables, AuctionsWhat is an Adoptable Auction?Adoptables, Auctions3 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
An Adoptable Auction it's like a normal auction, with an adoptable on the plate and the highest point/money offer wins. These are not 'first come, first serve' adoptables.
Is it the same thing as a Name-Your-Price Adoptable?
Both can cause a bidding war, but no, they're not the same thing. Auctions are more organized and have more terms to them that the NYP Adopts. NYP Adopts usually have a price range and not a starting bid, they don't have an autobuy, nor a minimum bid raise and end when the Adoptable Creator feels like it.
Bid = Money/Point Offer
Starting Bid/Base Bid (SB) = The first and lowest bid you can make for the adoptable (usually decided by the Adoptable Creator)
Minimum Raise = The minimum amount of money/points that you need to add to a previous bid to beat it (usually decided by the Adoptable Creator)
Autobuy/Buyout (AB) = The price that you need to pay to be sure to get the adopta

Making the right decision sometimes makes all the difference.

Tip of the Day: Playing the Game of LifeI used to spend all my free time on games. Arcade games, card games, home entertainment systems... etc. Until I found the best game of all - LIFE. You only get one life and there are many levels that you can pass. Try to think of life as a game. Always trying to get to that "next level." Identify what you could achieve to get to the "next level" in your life and put your energy into it!

When someone's work is better...Suppose you're an artist... or some craftsman. You can do stuff. And you're pretty confident with your skills. You have people to prove it. You have clients. You can paid your bills and make a decent living. You've fancy things around you... the list goes on.When someone's work is better...2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Now, imagine you see the work that's better than yours... x10 better, x100 better, infinity times better. What do you feel?
Anxiety, jealousy, depression? ...or maybe inspiration, respect and enlightenment?
The recent one for me was a cold shower feel. Everyone is better. F*ck! Even the monkey can draw better stuff!
It's a hard pill to swallow really. Your confidence is shattered. You don't feel the same anymore. Surprisingly enough after a few days you're back on track. Let's kick some ass, yeah!
I have been through this cycle many times. The details and feelings may vary but you've ups and downs like sine wave. The trick is to get out of 'downs' as soon as possible. Don't let them persuade you. Climb up.
About training to fullfill your goals and dreams. My experience of my small lonely, personal travel up to New York City was amazing decision, I've experienced a lot being as a part of the life of grand cities in the USA- which are quite much different worlds than most major cities in Europe. Not as a tourist but I transformed myself being as a New York citizen for several days, to feel in New Yorkish people how they live. As Brooklyn-er, I spent all days wandering along the buildings of that city, sitting down and watching people and the environment riding in the train and exploring between many boroughs and neighborhoods, from overwhelming, very touristic-y, overrated and famous Manhattan to the another side of the world, filled with a lot darker atmosphere- the Bronx.About training to fullfill your goals and dreams.3 years ago in Personal More Like This
I've been in New York so many times and since I was very little, yet I've never seen the real New York. But from when I became a traveler I learned how to find the heart of the city, and so, Manhattan wasn't the real part to see and feel the New Yor

You can't be lazy!Well, let's face it. The audience doesn't care about your stuff. Doesn't matter if you're some groovy guy drawing chicks or rugged viking choppin' woodsculptures. You can't be lazy!10 months ago in Personal More Like This
A lot of artists spend their time mastering the craft while completely neglect the promotion side. It's a pain to see someone doing amazing stuff with zero recognition.
Ever heard of I'm too lazy/busy/shy to promote myself excuse?
Well you could be busy, you could be shy but you should never be lazy. Forget about the lazy word.
No matter how good you are the art wouldn't market/promote itself. Even in a digital age. Sad but true.
The audience doesn't care about your stuff... unless you do your homework and make them care.

Comic legend Lynn Johnston (creator of "For Better or For Worse" gave me today's tip of the day. She wrote to me with some advice after listening to my audiobook "The Perfect Bait"
"I wondered if there should be a portion dedicated to people- students etc who are completely unknown, who just want to get a foot in the door.
Working for free is the answer. You might balk at this because some critics say this gives the appearance that there is NO value to skill and talent. However- consider this: Working for free gives you amazing experience. It allows you to practice on someone else's project, see your work in print, establish a reputation and learn- big time. People who won't work for free WILL pay for a course! What better learning experience is there than to work with a client- such as a library or an independent book store or a school- producing poste
World Capitals Assemble! (by :iconrosel-dWorld Capitals Assemble!2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Hi there! ^^ Just wanted to let you guys know that I'm gonna draw a "webcomic" like, about capitals (a bit similar to Hetalia though) but I'm just afraid that I might been copying Himaruya-sensei's idea of Hetalia if you know what I mean ._.
Well, this idea came out when I saw a local Manga Magazine, Kakoii (some of you know about it already) which was discovering some new people who like to draw comics and if I join it and my series works, it will get continued and so on I will literally became a Mangaka xD (such big dreams lol orz)
As for my biggest problem is...I don't really have much ideas...and know much about capitals which makes me had no idea what to draw -.- So if it's wasn't too troubled, you can send me some facts about the capitals if you want, through note or email OuO
And the best thing goes last!
Now you can design your own capital OC and send it to me (through email, inform me by note first xD) If I like it, I wo
Disney... what have you done?Really Disney, what the fuck have you done?Disney... what have you done?2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I watched a movie last night... left me completly puzzled and disappointed.
"Which movie?" you ask.
Planes I tell you.
So at first, I didn't really wanted to watch it. Why? It's just a copy and paste of Cars. But it still was a Disney/Pixar movie, so of course even if the story is the same, I was still expecting a beautiful animation, pretty pictures and a good way to tell the story.
And what it was...
Animation and pictures;
Are beautiful in the teaser and some parts of the movie indeed. But most of the time, the animation of the character is... weird. Not really natural, unlike any other Pixar character. Textures and lights are weirds at some parts too. I just absolutly didn't understand why there was a very good moments in term of animation and right after that moment very shitty animation... just... what happened?
Everything happens to quickly.
'DANG, That's Some Good Acorn Squash' RecipeMy new year's resolution is to eat more vegetables. Although I love the idea of going vegetarian or vegan, I know deep down in my heart that I simply love sweet mesquite BBQ ribs too much. So I compromised and told myself I would eat more vegetables to balance out my omnivore ways.'DANG, That's Some Good Acorn Squash' Recipe9 months ago in Personal More Like This
Squash! It's not just for putting by your front door in the fall!
Preheat oven to 400*F and place the rack in the middle.
Cut the squash in half and scoop out the insides.
Cut a small piece off of the bottom of the round side of each half, so that they don't roll around on the pan when facing up.
In a bowl, or in one of the squash halves if you're lazy, mix:
2 teaspoons margarine
2 teaspoons brown sugar
1 clove garlic finely chopped (or a small squeeze of garlic paste in a tube)
1/2 tsp salt
Less than half a teaspoon, to taste:
Ground black pepper
"Italian seasoning" Which can include oregano, basil, thyme, rosemary, marjoram, sage (if you have those as se

I've been working as fan liaison at Oddworld Inhabitants for so long now, and I still love nothing more than reaching out to the community and seeing what you amazing guys have been working on. Our fans are our favorite people in the world. Your passion and enthusiasm for the stories we tell inspires us every day. We owe everything to you.
I like to answer your questions in my weekly Dear Alf column, but I also love to share your fan art in a gallery that I call Fan Art Tuesdays (also known as FArT!). We post a selection of your creations to our blog and Facebook every single week for the rest of the community to enjoy. We've had so many kinds of submission, from traditional drawings and paintings, through physical and computer models, to tattoos, costumes and murals, and even balloon art!
I'll be scouring deviantArt for your Oddworld fan art and contacting the artists (you guys!) for permission to share them in our FArTs. If you're really eager, you can send you
DA's Insular Taste PhenomenonIt's been quite a while since I wrote a preachy "THINK ABOUT YO' ART"-type journal, and some of my newer watchers may not know that this is a particular(ly annoying) habit of mine. This is a subject I've had on my mind for quite some time for a number of reasons, and it's recently coalesced into a semi-soluble form so here we go. (As an aside- this journal does have some recycled ideas from a previous post of mine, but obviously I hadn't really said everything I wanted to on the subject.)DA's Insular Taste Phenomenon4 years ago in Personal More Like This
It's no mystery that I love this website. I came in at the tail end of the pre-critique wonder years, when the internet discovered and exploited that, yes, we don't always produce the highest quality art here. There's a lot of unpleasantness directed towards DeviantArt. At RISD, I made a point to never mention that I had an account here, because of the looks of disgust I would get haha and people would think about me differently. It was

I wanna talk to ALL OF YOU |8U about "popular artists" these may be artists that have a lot of watchers, are well-known in a fandom, or that you personally idolize and may connect to the word "popular".
Lets get this going...
Don't always believe everything a popular artist, or one you idolize, says.
Especially if they're talking crap about something or someone else.
If the artist is talking crap about someONE, look into both sides of the story before automatically taking sides with the artist you look up to, you may find that the artist is in the wrong, over reacting, or actually a really nasty person. This includes looking at the profiles of both people involved, to see if either posted a journal about it, or had a fight in the public comments on their profile or journal, make sure you understand what both people are saying and where they're com
Premium Content and how I feel about making moneyHalloPremium Content and how I feel about making money3 years ago in Personal More Like This
There's a new feature called premium content that allows users to make file downloads available for a charge. This seems to be something with a vast range of different possibilities that range from quite nice to to quite lame. Of course we are all always against commercialization and sell-outs and everything and don't want things to change but there are some interesting options here.
Obviously everyone is going to know whether or not this is something he or she could use and how much sense it's going to make for what you do specifically but there's two points I want to adress.
I always thought it was lame when people sell stuff like brushes or psd files. This is probably just my personal opinion and many will certainly disagree for valid reasons, but I think, if you make some brushes, and you ask money for something as tiny as that, you are lame. Sorry. Actually, the point here is not that it will kill someone to pay like one buck for something tiny, it's just that it change
