Macro-PhotographyWhat's Macro Photography? Technically a Macro photograph shows a subject that is life size compared to the size of the negative of a SLR or sensor in a Full Frame DSLR, that's a 1:1 reproduction ratio aspect. For example, if we take a macro of an object wich is 35 mm long, it will cover the whole frame, no matter what size the reproduction, if we are shooting with a Full Frame camera. Often a ratio aspect of 1:2 is also considered Macro, although that ratio shows subjects wich life size is half of the size compared to the negative or sensor, I preffer to call those pictures Close-up photograpies.Macro-Photography1 year ago in Art Features More Like This
Here is an example of what I'm saying: I shot a measuring tape with my D600, wich is a full frame camera, and my macro lens set at the maximun magnification. As you can see there's exactly 35 mm of the tape.
Example of 1:1 ratio aspect with a full frame camera
What do we need to do Macro Photography? Well, firstly a c

Using Natural Lighting and Outdoor Environments in Still Life
Many wonderful still life photographers use indoor setups and lighting for their photography. But, since I started out as a nature photographer, I like to utilize natural light and shoot my still life photos outdoors. However, taming the outdoor world can be a little tricky, so I wanted to write an article discussing several tips for improving outdoor still life shots and explaining how I shot several of my own still life photographs.
Here are several tips...
1.) Try different angles. Outdoor lighting environments can look widely different depending on the angle, since the angle you shoot at can change lighting, general perspective of the subject, and what is in your background. So for each shot I take, I always try several different angles. I also try re-positioning my subject a few times and even moving to a different outdoor area.

Big, marvellous, elaborate, finished paintings and drawings you can see in various stunning galleries on dA and outside dA, while they require time and can occupy artist's workspace even for months, in a lot of cases make a small percentage of created pictures lying around the creator's desk. Sketches aren't just noted concepts or a stage in preparing an artwork - a couple of sketches a day can be the most influential source of improving your skills.
You have probably been through this more than once - far from your room, you got struck with a brilliant idea. In diffrent circumstances you'd most likely rush to transfer it onto paper or canvas, but well, that might be not so easy in a classroom or on a bus. It can be difficult even if you're home - how about more than one idea at once? Using a sketchbook as a notepad for any concepts is by far

I can draw anything... as long as I get to look at it.
There is a great myth that drawing is a memory exercise. That if you can draw entirely from memory it makes you a better artist who deserves more kudos.
Of course the study of drawing will lead to a good memory of the things you've already studied how to draw, humans, animals, whatever it is that you love to draw. But the downfall of this is that you can restrict yourself to only drawing what it is you have studied how to draw, ie what you've memorised.
Using reference is not a weakness! It is a strength and almost all top level artists use a lot of reference. Using reference means you're not trapped one person's life experiences and can draw upon a wealth of extra knowledge. How can that be a weakness?
A lot of people seem to assume that the reference should come first. They go out and they scour the dA stock etc to find th

Hello all deviants!!!
Some of you already know this guy, some no. But anyway let me introduce you to LUCIFER. He's me oficial character and most memorable and loved creature I've ever draw.
If you don't know he's not a cat, but halfblood, the son of the dark spirit and werecat.
Halfbloods like him can do interesting thing - they can turn into almost all vreatures you can ever imagine ( from small insects to enormous dragons).
But lucifer prefer his cat form most of all thats why many people saw him in this form before:
He rarely turnes into a dog form also. But he has many other forms (including human one).
So this will be your goal in this contest:
TO DRAW LUCIFER IN ANY OTHER ANIMAL, HUMAN OR CREATURE FORM.( NO CAT OR DOG FORMS)
JUST FOLLOW THIS RULES:

(by Bobby Myers)
As an artist, your job is to immerse your viewers into a world that you have built and guide them safely through it. Artists have much in common with storytellers. Storytellers have several tricks that they use to keep their readers coming back for more. Like storytellers, artists can use similar tricks to help them produce more compelling artwork. In this article, we will explain 5 fundamental skills that every artist should master. Let's take a look!
The most important aspect of art to me personally is the composition. It sets the stage for everything else. This is your way to guide and lead the viewer to make them feel as if they are actually in your picture. If this part of the process is not created and controlled properly, everything else can and probably will fal

Update - art contest - win premium membership!Update:-Update - art contest - win premium membership!1 year ago in Personal More Like This
I made a poll to enquire about whether you would like to have the deadline extended for the contest... and so far (at the time of this update) I have 4 people saying that they would like a deadline extension and 5 people saying that they would find it unfair if there was a deadline extension (I was aware that this opinion might be issued, hence why it was included in the poll).
Sooo... ermm... I'm not really sure what to do here with an alllllllmost (almost) 50/50 opinion, as I really don't want to be unfair to anyone. Obviously there was one more person voting negatively than positively, but the numbers are so small that I don't want to let down any individual voters. I was going to extend the deadline an extra week, but I don't want to be unfair to the people who voted negatively, so I'm going to compromise (... sort of) and extend the deadline by only 48 hours, and also suggest that you submit even unfinished work so that I can see it. :

EDIT 4/9/14: I feel horrible for having to do this yet again, but I feel as though we have to little entries, and I probably will not be able to get the contest winning art done until after my surgery when I have some days off from work. So unfortunately, I have to extend the contest yet again.
EDIT 3/12/14: Okay I have been very busy with work. Sorry for everyone who has been waiting but I am going to extend this just a little longer. I apologize to all of those who have been waiting to see who one, and hope all of those who need it take advantage of the extensions!
This contest invites the creativity of your mind, along with intriguing horrors to bring new creations to life on Deviantart! This is my first contest, but I feel like it could really help some people grow popularity, plus you can get some really great prizes! (We

4 MONTH HOLIDAY CONTEST!!!Hey guys!4 MONTH HOLIDAY CONTEST!!!1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Yep, you read that right! This year we're having a 4 MONTH contest!
See, there are so many holidays this upcoming season, and we all come from different cultures. I'm Puerto Rican on my father's side, and there, we celebrate well into January until the 6th, which is El Dia de Reyes, The Three Kings (Epiphany).
Therefore, this holiday will last October 8, 2013 - January 6, 2014. The submission folder will be closed January 7, 2014.
Surely this is plenty of time for multiple people to participate!
So here's your synopsis: Pick a holiday out of the ones listed below and using your OCs represent it in a positive, creative, and artistic way. I'll be looking not only at creativity, but at the story taken from the picture, the references to the holiday and cultures, etc.
Oktoberfest (not a holiday but its pretty big for some) - SEPTEMBER 20, 2014 - OCTOBER 5, 2014
Halloween - OCTOBER 31st
Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) - NOVEMBER 1st
