Since I get a lot of mails and comments that asks similar things, I have tried to put together a FAQ, since I am having a hard time replying to every one of them individually.
One thing you must understand though, is that art is different for everyone, so some of the things you will have to learn and discover for yourself. Unfortunately I do not have all the answers for you.
What's your job?
I am a freelance comic artist. Clients ask of me to draw: Cover art (CD/Film/Books), writing/pencilling/inking/colouring of comics and manga, game/film concept art, storyboards, character design, workshops, logo designs, mascot designs, TV host (comic/manga/japan/game related). I do both private and commercial commissions since about 2006. You can contact me for work at Mikikoponczeck@gmail.com or Mikiko_ponczeck@yahoo.de
How long have you been drawing?

Fractals and MusicFor many artists, art and music go together. Fractalists are no exception. Ask any fractalist if they listen to music while they make fractals, and I suspect well over half the time they will answer in the positive. Personally, I'm a music fiend, and certainly over half the works in my gallery will contain a link to a soundtrack. Many are named after songs, lyrics, or some other aspect of the music I'm listening to. I find that music informs and inspires what I'm working on, either on a subconscious or conscious level. I also experience what I call a mild tactile synaesthesia - sounds, beyond any emotional impact, create physical sensations in me. I experience timbres as textures. Drums dance upon me. Filter sweeps and guitar feedback can be ecstatic... All this affects how I create fractals (and gnarls, for that matter). I strongly encourage anyone who creates fractals to see how music affects them, and how it informs and inspires what they're working on.Fractals and Music1 year ago in Art Features More Like This

Coming Back!Thank you everyone who has supported me and given me their valuable advice about how to deal with my family situation in China. I'm happy to say that my father and I are on much better terms now. It's honestly more than I could ever have hoped for and I haven't been this happy in a long time.Coming Back!1 year ago in Personal More Like This
The comments you guys left really helped me believe in myself. Thanks to everyone's encouragement, I know I wasn't in the wrong. I was able to firmly explain my problems with my father. It took many long and heated discussions before we finally came to an understanding but it was definitely worth it. He eventually admitted that he was wrong, and shouldn't have brushed me aside as being "too bothersome" or not worth angering his crazy wife for. He said he regrets the way he treated me, and has promised to try to visit me once a year. It's really hard to put into words how much that means to me, and I truly thank you all for helping me get to this point.
I read in the comments that many have e

No Women in eSports, and A Talk About SJWWomen segregated in eSports to “legitimize” the sportsNo Women in eSports, and A Talk About SJW1 year ago in Personal More Like This
I personally think that eSports is kinda a silly idea. The idea that video game competitions should be treated with the same respect as the Olympics is just... head scratching to me. But just because I personally don’t “get it” doesn’t mean I can’t support others who DO actually want to legitimize their hobbies or activities into being real things they can compete in.
However... if your way of “legitimizing” your eSport is to SEGREGATE WOMEN... you’re kinda shooting yourself in the foot. Earlier this week the International e-Sports Federation announced that it was going to separate it’s competitions into “male only” and “female only” groups... an act defended by the IEF as being (and I quote) “part of our effort to promote e-Sports as a legitimate sports”
Naturally, this ended up pissing a LOT
A Brief History of Marvel's Film RightsSome people took interest in this from my last journal ( Spider-Man and the Avengers ) so I thought I’d try to explain it better here. Please keep in mind that this is a SUPER CONDENSED version of events that took place (starting 60 years ago) that led to the convoluted mess that is currently Marvel’s various film franchises. Also keep in mind that I will be using industry shorthand like saying “comic book industry” to refer to the American comic book industry giants of Marvel and DC, because that’s how we do things here. Anyway, here we go!A Brief History of Marvel's Film Rights10 months ago in Personal More Like This
“Seduction of the Innocent” comes out (a moral panic book which blames comics for kid’s wayward negative behavior), massive book burnings and censorship of comics ensues. Old comics burned or lost, thus increasing the value of the few comics that remain.

Elementals! Now that I'm over my crazy nesting spree, I'm finally working on elementals! The leaf dragons I posted got an insane amount of love yesterday. They were SO much fun to work on. I think I might make an autumn leaf set as well, but we'll see. I'll at least make an autumn baby. I just love fall colors too much not toElementals!2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I finished some nature ponies and was inspired by the flower one to concept out a flower dragon. She'll be a sort of mate to leaf dragon. I'll finish coloring her concept art tonight. She's gonna be sooo pretty. I also concepted out a lava dragon and some others that were requested. He's pretty freakin cool, even if I am going to hate myself once I actually attempt to build him... anyway, more concept art will be up this weekend, and possibly a flower dragon if I find some time to sculpt between all the weekend errand running. We're planning to get me a new car (mine isn't baby f
brentalfloss: The Comic is EndingToday we announced publicly that brentalfloss: The Comic http://brentalflossthecomic.com/ will be ending by the end of this month. After today's strip there will be 5 more and then it will be done. The website will continue to exist, so the comics themselves aren't going anywhere, and I will continue to repost the backlog of strips to DA until they run out, but by the end of August there will be no more new strips.brentalfloss: The Comic is Ending2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Sad to see it go after doing 200 episodes. This has been one of my favorite comic related jobs I've ever had and an incredibly steady and reliable one at that. I personally would love to keep doing this job for a couple more years, but Brent and Dan both want to move on to other projects and we've all come to the mutual agreement that 200 is a perfect stopping point. Nothing lasts forever, ya know?
To be honest, I am a little surprised brentalfloss: The Comic lasted this long. Things were a little rocky at first, and it took all 3 of us a while to get used to each others sty

Hey everyone, just wanted to say sorry for starting up more Other M drama. It still fascinates me how just mentioning the name of the game causes so many people to get so angry. I guess I thought maybe the hatred for it had died down, but I was wrong. So sorry to any of my fans who might’ve been caught up in any frustrating debates or flame wars as a result. Miyazaki Retires and Inafune KickstarterHayao Miyazaki RetiringMiyazaki Retires and Inafune Kickstarter2 years ago in Personal More Like This
So famed Japanese animator Hayao Miyazaki announced recently that he's retiring from Studio Ghibli and from making movies. Everyone is, naturally, sad to see him go and bemoaning his departure... except me. Cuz I've been here before. He's announced his retirement so many times in the past that it has no meaning to me anymore. I remember when he announced his retirement back in 1998, over 12 years ago. Every time he says he's retiring he inevitably comes back in some capacity. I don't know if he truly means it this time, but I'm not holding my breath.
Keiji Inafune's Kickstarter
The creator of Mega Man, Keiji Inafune, recently started a kickstarter program to try and fund a Mega Man knock-off called Mighty No. 9. Inafune says that the reason he's doing this is to show japanese developers that they have options outside the very broken japanese publishing system and gaming industry that he has been very vocal
Fantastic 4 Not Canon + Thor Be A WomanFantastic 4 Reboot Film Has No Relation to the ComicsFantastic 4 Not Canon + Thor Be A Woman1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Remember how pissed off everyone got when they found out the studios cast a black actor as the Human Torch and a white actress for his sister Sue Storm? Well there apparently was good reason for them not clarifying why this brother and sister duo are bi-racial. That’s because nothing in the movie has anything to do with the comics. Period.
Apparently the director has thrown everything about the comics out the window. There likely won’t be any fancy costumes, the characters won’t be called “The Fantastic 4” in the movie itself, and no part of the plot is going to be related to ANY prior comic storyline. The actress for Sue Storm asked if she should read any of the comics to get caught up and the director told her “don’t bother.”
So, yup.... this is gonna be shit. At least we have an explanation now for the strange casting choices though.
Zelda 3DS Review and Adventure Time LetdownThe Legend of Zelda: A Link Between WorldsZelda 3DS Review and Adventure Time Letdown1 year ago in Personal More Like This
I only just got around to playing this, despite it being one of the games I’ve wanted to play since I heard about it. The SNES A Link to the Past game is my absolute favorite Zelda game of all time, so you can bet that I would eventually pick up the sequel game. No spoilers in this section, I’ll keep it vague.
I really love this game for a number of reasons. I like the polished graphics that mesh so perfectly with the classic SNES game. I love all the nods to the original SNES sound effects, enemies, items, and characters. I just love the world in general, and this game gave me the ability to play in that world in 3-D, which was awesome.
There are a lot of new items too, and a new gameplay mechanic which works amazingly well with the world. I honestly saw the “become a painting” mechanic and thought it looked like a gimmick, as I often do with Nintendo’s gameplay conventions. But it works and it

every month i will post a suggestions for a feature journal

might have to rethink the amount of people featured per journal.... maybe 10, cant overdo it a
Things I wish Comics Would Stop Doing Part 2Transparent Sound FXThings I wish Comics Would Stop Doing Part 21 year ago in Personal More Like This
This one is kinda less known but it bothers me a lot. I understand WHY it's being done (it allows them to have a big sound effect over the artwork and not miss out on too much of the art itself), but I just can't stand the way it looks. It feels cluttered and has little to no impact in my opinion.
So side note: I've been getting a bunch of death threats lately. Got at least 2 e-mailed to me yesterday and one sent to my DA note box today. Dunno if they're all the same person, or if they're just trolls, or if they're just people who don't realize that threatening someone with death is wrong but... yeah...
Lesson learned: Never stand up for women's rights because anonymous people on the internt will want to murder you for your opinions...
My foray into the world of Skyrim... Day 5Day 5My foray into the world of Skyrim... Day 52 years ago in Personal More Like This
So I came across this tower that had been overtaken by bandits. Outside the tower there was a group of soldiers who needed someone to infiltrate the tower and open the doors for them. They told me to take the back entrance, so I climbed over the back wall and jumped in. I opened the door and... nothing happened. The soldiers wouldn't acknowledge me. So I went through the tower killing everyone. Still the soldiers wouldn't acknowledge that I had completed the mission. Turns out I was suppose to take the tunnel that was right behind them, not jump over the walls. So after I jiggled the door open and close a few times, they came running to find the tower completely empty of soldiers. Their help would've been beneficial taking on that tower, but alas... yet again I misunderstood what they wanted me to do and did things kinda backwards...
Shortly thereafter I encountered a fort that had a magic wielding bandit fighting a giant. I wanted to stay out of the fight, but

But one of the coolest things about nerdfighteria is that we have our own minecraft server called... wait for it: Nerdcrafteria!
Nerdcrafteria is one of the most awesome Minecraft servers I have ever participated in. The server is broken up into several different worlds. The Main World, The Nether, Minington, and Gladitorial. All of the worlds have borders around them preventing players from roaming too far and making the strain on the server too much to handle, but all of the worlds are also massive enough that you likely won't notice.
The Various Worlds
The main world is where towns and cities exist. You cannot break blocks here except on town plots that you purchase with the server's equivalent to money = Llamas. This helps prevent griefers from destroying all your hard work and gives you a place to call home. If you don't have enough

I stumbled upon a young treasure hunter and her sidekick. They were about to enter a temple and loot it and I joined their campaign. However her sidekick turned out to be corrupt and evil and I was forced to murder him. Learned a new word in the process but I felt pretty bad for the lady.
I then moved onwards in the direction of Dawnstar. Along the way I stumbled upon a couple's make-out camp. I don't know what else you'd call it. It was a tent overlooking a beach with two beds side by side littered with flowers and empty wine bottles. Pretty cold area to get frisky but... who am I to judge?
I'd been to Dawnstar before but this time I managed to trigger the quest to rid the nightmares that had been plaguing the city. After making it through the temple I was given the option to let Erandur complete his incantation to rid the miasma, or murder him and steal the evil skull. I kinda like the quests where evil is trying to tempt you but you're able to disobey their

Things I wish Comics Would Stop Doing Part 3Digital Motion BlurringThings I wish Comics Would Stop Doing Part 31 year ago in Personal More Like This
Part 3 is up. Just to be completely transparent here, I've done the digital motion blurring effect on a couple occasions too, though I didn't enjoy the results. It is a rather lazy way to convey motion, and if you have ink outlines I think it looks even worse. As Scott McCloud says, there are a lot of ways to convey motion. I just don't particularly enjoy this variation, especially in how it's used in modern mainstream Amerian comics.
Exceptions to the rule might be if the comic had colored outlines, or even no outlines at all. I think that might be a better use of the blurring effect, but even still it feels unnecessary. I dunno, what do you guys think?

Skyrim... Day 9, 10, and Rage QuitDay 9Skyrim... Day 9, 10, and Rage Quit2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I think I might've severely kneecapped the main story, but I'm not sure. See, I was tackling the cloak and dagger Foresworn conspiracy in Markarth. I found all the evidence I needed to find, went to talk to my inside man, only to be set up for his murder. I was jailed and allowed to speak to the Foresworn king but... um... I kinda... killed him?
After killing him I made my way through the underground tunnel, fought some dwarven machines and spiders, and as soon as I escaped I was rewarded by the Silver-Blood, given a full pardon, and all my items returned. So I'm kinda torn here... On the one hand, it was pretty clear that the Foresworn were pretty much enslaved and their land stolen and that the Silver-Bloods were to blame. But on the other hand, all the attacks were killing innocent people, and their bandits had been kidnapping and killing a lot of the people I've been rescuing in quests.
I don't really like EITHER group. The Foresworn are like terrorists, an
