BrushesThis is somehow a continuation of the previous journal with a listing of tutorials I use.Brushes4 years ago in Personal More Like This
People ask me about what brushes do I use even more often than about me making tutorials. Unfortunately here I might help only Photoshop users as I've never used SAI or GIMP and my Corel Painter worked so unbelievably slow on my machine that recently I've simply uninstalled it.
To be honest, the brush I use most often is a simple round brush with tablet pressure controlling the opacity.
With that baby I paint almost everything starting from under-painting and ending on medium details. Yet, there are all sorts of different brushes I use for other things - hair, texturing, backgrounds, foliage and so on. Here are a few sets I have installed. I do not use every single brush from them and I've deleted most of them right after installation... sometimes leaving as much as 1-5 brushes from a set of 30. You can get rid of unwanted brushes by either using the preset manager in the brush menu panel or by cl
What's that brush ?A lot of people ask about what kind of brush we use to get that pastely, textured, gouache- like quality for quite some time. Since it is kind of a hassle to create a tutorial for this, (we have to use MS paint to make/edit something like this, no lie), we could explain in more simpler terms. Follow the instructions carefully! What's that brush ?3 years ago in Personal More Like This
We primarily use Photoshop CS3 for this, but it probably doesn't matter what version of Photoshop you use, I believe.
Go under the brush menu (the one that looks like a filing folder), and click Dry Media Brushes to use as your main brush, otherwise known as the Brush Tip Shape .
Click on Number 63 or 36 brush for the Brush Tip Shape.
Now, go under the Dual Brush setting, and choose Number 49 brush .
Go under the Spacing setting under the Dual Brush, and adjust the spacing a tad bit so you can get some of that fuzzy/ grainy texture.
Finally, go to the other Dynamics setting, and put

How to Run Paint Tool Sai on a MacEDIT EDIT: Added a small section on pen pressure. How to Run Paint Tool Sai on a Mac2 years ago in Personal More Like This
EDIT: More programs added at the end! For those who would rather try something other than Parallels.
Since people were asking about it on my most recent deviation, here's how I managed to run Paint Tool Sai on my system with pen pressure. This is pretty much all taken from various tutorials, so if you read something you don't understand here, just google around and you should be able to find an answer. Also, I'm sure there are easier/different ways, but this is how it works for me.
Software/hardware used: Paint Tool Sai, Windows XP iso, Parallels Desktop 8, 2012 Macbook Pro. I initially used this with my Intuos tablet but it works with a Cintiq as well.
First, you must acquire both a copy of Parallels and either a Windows disc or ISO. I used Windows XP Professional since it seemed most lightweight to me (and I wouldn't be using it for anything other than drawing.)
Install Parallels. Once that's loaded up, select "In
omgI was trying out Krita (a free drawing software) brushes, and had the biggest surprise to see this:omg1 year ago in Personal More Like This
At first I was like "woah, this looks so much like my brush texture (that I really like and often use), this brush will be very useful!....w w-wait a minute."
These are the brushes I made available in a free psd brush pack a long time ago:
The "sponge-brush" in Krita is the EXACT same texture I made, but mirrored xD
It's a texture from a pattern I also made and mixed with other brushes from this pack. Here is the pattern for anyone who would be interested:
I do not blame them for this, I just found this funny and a bit flattering. My textures were made free to use, and Krita is also a free software, so I honestly do not mind at all :b
I was not expecting my brush pack to have been so much popular and used, I looked it up and my pack is now available on many sit

Here's a free brush set that contains basic rendering brushes, as well as custom brushes I've made. You may use them in any of your personal and professional work, and of course I highly encourage you to make your own as well
Made in Photoshop CS3, they should work in previous versions and of course will work in CS5 & CS6.
Thanks and enjoy!

Infos about daily devationsHi,Infos about daily devations4 years ago in Personal More Like This
lately i saw a lot of people getting daily devations.. i think all of you probably know what daily devations are. But most of you don't know how to suggest or get one. Including me... So i decided to take a look how it works.
A really really short guide how to suggest:
#1 Choose the Devation you like
#2 Write a note to the one of the following moderators - List
- Put in a thumb of the devation
- And a reason why you think this devation should become a daily devation
#3 Done!.. and waiting
Hint: On the devation page there is also a note-button. There you just have to put in the right moderator and the reason. The thumb is already selected (If you don't know how to put one)
I hope I've shortened it enough .. I didn't know that its so easy. So I'll suggest some

Brushes for download!I have decided to share my Photoshop brushes with the world. This particular set has elements from the brushes of Whit Brachna, Maciej Kuciara, Sergey Kolesov, Algenpfleger, Danny Luvisi, inetgrafx and a bunch of other great artists, as well as some of my own custom brushes! You'll definitely recognize many of them if you are familiar with the usual concept art brushes, but this selection works really well for me.Brushes for download!2 years ago in Personal More Like This
