~ What I Did to Get Published ~Wow, I'm getting a lot of inquiries in regards to the publishing process and what I went through to try to get my book, The Sorcerer's Dragon, published. That's awesome, I feel special to have sparked some inspiration for some of you writers out there! I don't mind sharing any of my experiences with you guys in what I did and I hope what I post here will help you guys who are also trying to get your stuff published as well
For starters, this didn't happen to me over night. I first started working on the Armageddon Series when I was 14 years old back in 2004 after I watched the Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire movie and after I wrote out my Harry Potter fanfiction (which was over 330 pages and I handwrote this on notebook paper XD). After I wrote out my first fan fiction, I then decided that I wanted to write my own original story. I loved fantasy so much and I loved dragons. Plus, I also just read through Eragon and Eldest not long before
MARKETNG TIPS FOR AUTHORSHello again everyone. I wanted to write out another guide to publishing, but this time, to focus more on the marketing aspect of your book. I previously wrote a journal entry in regards to what I did to get my first book published (not self published, but published and in contract with a company called Whiskey Creek Press). If you want to check that one out, click on the link below:MARKETNG TIPS FOR AUTHORS10 months ago in Personal More Like This
All right, so you have your book all written out and edited and as perfect as it can be and it's finally published (whether you decide to self-publish or to go with an actual publishing company), what do you do now? How do you get your book actually noticed?
I'm still learning new ways to market my book and with the ways that I've found, my book sales have been going up and down. Just recently, my book's rank went way down to about 360,000 on the Amazon's best seller rank and now it's way back up

"I've seen quite a few cases of art theft recently (involving both my work and other's), and I think it's about time I help out somehow.
So I made this small guide to dealing with art theft. If your art/your friend's art has been stolen, follow this guide and you'll settle matters quickly and easily.
Important point to consider
NEVER comment on the stolen artwork or the userpage of the art thief. More often than not, people comment saying things that are as harsh as possible and are completely inappropriate. Yes, 9 times out of 10 the "artist" is just a troll messing with people, but if you don't watch what you comment, you CAN be warned/reported for harassment. Keep that in mind.
The exception to this rule is if the stolen art is being sold somehow, of which a comment will discourage people from buy

So you have a community project. You think it is a really good project, but people seem to not care for it. But wait... what if they just don't know about it?
Step 1 - WRITE A JOURNAL ABOUT YOUR PROJECT
You can also use other ways to describe your project - in the comments section of a deviation, in a profile widget or gallery description, but a journal is usually the most effective way to get the word out. Write it in sta.sh, even if it's a group journal (we will get to this later). Explain clearly and concisely the main idea and goals of your project, then elaborate on the details if needed.
Step 2 - POST THE JOURNAL
You can post it not only in your profile, but also in your groups. You need to be an admin of a group to be able to post the journal to it directly (as a journal, not as a deviation). If you are an admin of a group that is relevant to the project, this is how

Have a project in mind, but not sure about where you’ll be able to gather the funds? Funding is often the most difficult aspect of running a project, but with the correct planning, organization, and fundraising, you can make any project a success!
Not every deviant has the financial capacity to assist your project, but every deviant can contribute by helping you promote your project. After all, even if these certain individuals cannot be able to donate, they may be able to find you the people who can. In your project announcement journals, make sure to emphasize that anyone can help by:
Adding the journal to their favorites to bump it up to the Journal PortalWriting a journal or a poll promoting the projectEncouraging their friends to help out and spread the word

This article will list five easy ways to make your comment constructive. What many people do not realise is that a constructive comment does not have to be as long or as indepth as a critique, and that you don't need to be an awesome commenter or an awesome artist to write a constructive comment. You probably won't have to spend more than 5-10 minutes writing a constructive comment, and it could still be helpful to the artist.
Here are the steps that you can take to make your comment more constructive:

WTF Feminism? We need HumanismQUESTIONSWTF Feminism? We need Humanism11 months ago in Personal More Like This
This will be a rant like and really offensive to the feminist so I might get hated. I just want to participate my opinions to dA "I need feminism." I was just answering the question honestly and under my opinion so sorry to those who will get hit by my meteor strike answer. I respect women as I respect myself as a man. Feminism should not be a brick wall for that. For people who agreed without actually reading it or knowing the true meaning is like blindly joining a group. I respect women and love their stylish looks but I hated it when they change into something horrible.
Q: What does feminism mean today? Is it authentic to its original intent or has it transformed into something for a new generation?
Feminism of today is not what real feminism aims for such as equality. There are many arrogant, brat, spoiled, and know it all women that brags how superior they are that they can do bett

There was a quote that I heard, but I can't remember where it's from.
"I would rather be hung and died defending my beliefs than to allow someone to sway me and for me to die naturally as a coward who wouldn't stand up for my own thoughts and opinions."
I know that I've done a rage rant in the past on religion before but... the Christian community keeps pissing me off!
This is a forewarning: this journal entry is just a rant. This is for me to express how I feel and to get what's bothering me off my chest and out into the opening. You don't have to read this, and I don't want anyone to turn this into any sort of argument because this is to express how I personally feel on what's bothering me. If you want to turn this into a political debate, DON'T DO IT HERE! I don't want any opinions here. This is a personal rant (I cannot stress this enough).

A Beginner's Guide
Poetry publication is awash with literary magazines, internet journals, print-on-demand presses, vanity presses, indie presses, and major publication houses. So many options! It's a lot to navigate. But before we delve into the 'How-To's,' it's important to understand the 'Why.'
I'm talking about the the Big Why, the biggest WHY after 'Why write poetry?' Which is, of course, 'Why are you publishing your poetry?'
"BECAUSE!" I hear you shouting.
But that's not the best answer. You'll be happier, or at least more content with the results of the following advice if you understand your motivations behind the urge to publish. What specifically do you hope to achieve?
How to Succeed in Poetry Without Really Trying
If, for example, you want your poems out in the world, in a place people might read them; if you want to be able to say that you're a published poet; if you're not feeling great a

Be An Active Watchee We all want active watchers; people that comment on our deviations and add them to their favorites. That get involved in whatever projects we have going on, polls we post or anything else. Active watchers are awesome and we're lucky to have them. But are you an active watchee?Be An Active Watchee9 months ago in Art Features More Like This
Some people return watches, some people don't. However you do it, a big key to have active watchers for most of us is to be active in return! But what is an active watchee?
Being an active watchee isn't really that hard, it's just boils down to being involved with your watchers and being part of their deviantART experience too. They watched you for whatever reasons they did. Let it be your artwork, your community involvement, your bribery... whatever it is, they watched you for a reason, reasons we shall appreciate because we are respectable people after all! So without further babbling or .gifs,

hahah I figured this was the most dramatic way to put it, but yeah, it's real and it sucks.
For those who don't know what it means: Procrastination is the practice of carrying out less urgent tasks in preference to more urgent ones, or doing more pleasurable things in place of less pleasurable ones, and thus putting off impending tasks to a later time, sometimes to the "last minute" before the deadline.
We all suffer from procrastination. It is pretty innocent when you have it with household chores or packing your suitcase before you go on a holiday.
But it becomes a serious problem when you do it with the important things in your life. I take it you're an artist if you're reading this and the biggest aim of being an artist is to be an even better one.
As shown in previous journals there are many

There's a lot of crap on the internet about what makes a character a Mary Sue/Gary Stu and what does not. Well, here's what I personally think about certain traits that some people overdo and how you can use them in your work without butchering them to the point of Uber-Sue Wonderland. This will tie in with my How to Roleplay Efficiently and How to Create a Good Horror OC journals. You don't have to agree with me on any of this. All opinions are my own, and I'm not trying to bash any particular OCs out there. I'm just trying to clear up some things and help people with OC development. Enjoy.

I figured after 7 years of answering the same types of questions that could have been answered from reading the artist's commentary, I decided to disable comments on my future pieces.
The reason for this is because, while I don't mind critiques, they tend to not really help me much when I try to take up your guys' suggestions. I usually figure out how to draw and paint things for myself, since that's really the only way that I truly learn. I never said there was anything wrong with you guys helping, I really do appreciate it, it's just I never was able to learn that way.
I understand that the comments section can also be for others saying how nice a piece is, but I tend to get a lot of these too and I can't really seem to reply to them all. You guys are awesome and I do appreciate all of the feedback, but after reading and replying to all of the comments, I kind of need a bit of a break... >.<'

PE: How to Make the Most of Your Lit on dALit Basics WeekPE: How to Make the Most of Your Lit on dA6 months ago in Literature Features More Like This
It goes without saying that being noticed on dA as an artist isn't easy. Add in the fact that you're submitting literature to a predominantly visual arts site and you have an even lower chance of being noticed. Your friendly Literature Community Volunteers do their best to feature an array of poetry and prose, but even that is only a single day feature of ONE of your deviations. Getting a following or even just getting deviants to read your lit and give feedback is hard work. But you'll see a common denominator amongst those deviants that have made it.
It's community involvement. You shouldn't expect to receive if you're not willing to give. But how exactly can accomplish that? Is going to random Lit Groups and leaving critique on a dozen or so deviations a week enough? Probably not. Will participating in group challenges, prompts and contests get you noticed? Not by itself. What if you run a weekly or bi-weekly feature article of Literature on dA? Still, no.
Make a Wish! How to Make a WishMake a Wish!3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Simply send the group a note. It is really that easy.
Who can WishAnyone can make a wish - even non-members. Only one wish per deviant - not per account. You may join with multiple accounts. You may buy multiple Forever Wishes for yourself over multiple accounts, but you may not make regular wishes with more than one account (we will ban users who attempt to do this without purchasing a Forever Wish). If a shared account is used to make a wish, none of the account users can make another wish on their own account.
Don't make plans around your wish being granted...The Well is not able to grant time-sensitive wishes nor is here to allow deviants to hold giveaways and contests of their own by granting their wishes for points in a set amount of time. If you are relying on your wish to be granted in order to be able to hold a contest, do a giveaway, give a birthday present, etc,

You'll get a note, or if you like, I can write it under your gallery.
Rules: Please only Manga/Anime style!! I'm not familar with other styles...
And you must know the basics at least. I'm not good at giving tips to real beginners!
Have a gallery with own drawings, not copied ones!
Since not everyone is able to take criticism, please choose whether you want improvement tips or not. And if yes, you MUST be able to take criticism!
So, who would like to have a constructive evaluation?
Ok, thank you!^^
Please don't be sad if you missed it. I know 10 slots are not much! But please consider that I need around minutes to look and judge one gallery. So 10 galleries make almost 1 hour work for me! >__<

Motivation is such an important part of our lifes. Without it, we wouldn't get anything done. It's the reason why we do the things we do. And when we have the lack of it, then It can get quite depressing and give us an anxiety that keeps us away from making artworks. And it sucks. So here are my 10 tips that have helped me over the time and I hope that It'll be helpful for you too.
Have some inspirational quotes all around your workplace. Put the artworks you adore as your desktop picture. See them as motivation, something to strive for, to remind yourself what matters to you and trigger positive thoughts. Try to write an inspiring letter to your future-self - about what and why you want to achieve and whenever you'll feel down, read it and you'll be inspired to move on.
