Las Vegas deviantMEET Wrap-Up!
Our first-ever deviantMEET in Las Vegas hit the jackpot!
On Sunday, December 1st, deviants were already lined up outside the doors at 5:00 PM, even though the event wasn't scheduled to start until 5:30! (A handful of amazingly dedicated super deviants arrived as early as 3:30 PM!) Far be it for us to wait to get the party started, so we opened the doors a little early, allowing the crowd to rush in. After signing our guestbook – we know, physical guestbooks are so Web 1.0, but they're great mementos! – our devious artists dispersed to play at the deviantART booth.
Stocked with six Intuos 5 Wacom tablets to play with, a 24-inch Cintiq, SketchBook Pro for sketching and painting, enough table seating for traditional drawing and portfolio review, and bags upon bags of free swag (including stress balls, deviantART Sharpies, and tons of free stickers), everyone found an awesome and creative way to spend their time.

Communities rely on Pillars made of HeartCommunities of all kinds are held up by pillars made of heart. Typically embodied by people who let the weight of their community rest on their shoulders, willing to let life be life. Sometimes it hurts, and sometimes it's comfortable. Regardless, the result is a halo that surrounds all participants in a community. The healing light of being mothered, fathered or cared for.Communities rely on Pillars made of Heart2 years ago in Personal More Like This
These are very special people who take this role in your community. Maybe this person is you. In which case, please be you today, and every day. Because you are very important.
For the rest of us, we all know who the pillars are that hold up the communities that we care about. We all know the value of what they do, especially when we stop to think about it.
There is nothing in life that I have ever found a deeper admiration for than people who take on this role. Pillars of Community. When a human being digs their heels in, claims territory and begins to show Love towards a group of people, they begin to embody

1. Miscellaneous vs Other
Over the past few months, we've been diligently working on cleaning up the category tree of old and unused categories. While most of this will go unnoticed by the community, what you will notice is the change from "Miscellaneous" galleries to "Other". The reason for this change is simple. The concept of Miscellaneous leads one to believe that it's a junk drawer category for everything under the sun when the intention was to be an "Other" category for deviations that don't fit well in other sub-categories of the tree. We're also working on u
DeviantArt, deviantART and Lots of Things TooWe're going to be DeviantArt, officially. But you can always call us deviantART. You'll get to be retro, and that's always... well, retro! This goes for DA and dA, too.DeviantArt, deviantART and Lots of Things Too1 year ago in Personal More Like This
It was nice to see Moonbeam13 and starvingartist today in Toronto. We got some lunch. Then 'Beam was nice enough to drive me to the airport with Rob. Rob! Happy Birthday Moonbeam!
I'm in the sky eating a banana at the moment. I wonder what monkeys would make of me eating a banana at 30,000 feet. Let alone journaling on DA from here.
I was in Toronto visiting Autodesk, and the teams behind Sketchbook and Pixlr and other awesome apps they have. What wonderful people. I really enjoyed seeing what they're up to, it's all very exciting.
I've been hanging out on #devart on dAmn today, and I asked Pickley to pull together all the best scripts and projects out there that improve dAmn. This way DA can consider buying the code, interfaces, etc. and
Hollywood deviantMEET Wrap-Up!Hollywood opened its arms to deviantART on Wednesday, November 20th, with an incredibly successful deviantMEET! Over 150 deviants, friends, and family came to hear an exclusive storytelling session from deviantART CEO and Co-Founder, Angelo Sotira (spyed), where he shared behind-the-scenes details about deviantART's inception and formative years. WeWork Labs' Hollywood location played host to our event, and a number of people commented on the warm atmosphere the location provided.Hollywood deviantMEET Wrap-Up!2 years ago in DeviantArt Announcements More Like This

Pageviews Now Include All Profile SectionsPageviews Now Include All Profile Sections2 years ago in DeviantArt Announcements More Like This
As of today, we've updated the way Profile pageviews are counted for deviants and Groups.
Many years ago, we expanded the pageview counter to include not just the front page of your Profile, but also the Journals tab and the Prints tab (but not individual Journals or Prints). We mistakenly never expanded the count to other areas of the Profile.
This has been inconsistent for quite some time and we haven’t been transparent about what exactly this counter included.
Starting today, the pageview counter will begin including pageviews to all sections of your Profile, including:
Gallery and Gallery FoldersFavourites and CollectionsOther profile subpages: Activity, Badges, Daily Deviations, Critiques, Gallery Stats, Polls, Wishlist
We felt that it was important to fix this inconsistency to properly reflect traffic to all deviants’ Profiles. If an artist gets a lot of traffic to their Prints shop, this should be reflected in the same way i

Update: Fair Exposure and Popular Browse Fair Exposure and miscategorizationUpdate: Fair Exposure and Popular Browse3 years ago in DeviantArt Announcements More Like This
On January 24th, 2012, we released an hq journal regarding Popular results for Browse. In this journal, we described Fair Exposure -- deviantART's algorithm for Popular browse results. Fair Exposure's goal is to showcase the most popular deviations in a variety of styles, genres, and art forms, without bias towards a particular topic.
Since the release of our Fair Exposure announcement, especially in the last handful of weeks, we've noticed a concerted, dedicated effort made by deviants, or groups of deviants, to specifically beat (or "game") the system. Deviations have been intentionally miscategorized in hopes of having them appear "higher" in Popular results. This has, rightfully so, resulted in complaints from deviants who submit to deviantART in a fair and honest manner.

1. Art is Personal
Every day, daily deviations are featured, artist interviews are posted, and countless journals of thumbnails published. Every single day, community members, volunteers and staff, all come together and share in a love of art. It doesn't always go well and sometimes a piece of artwork I adore, strikes the wrong chord with someone. However, regardless of the message received the artwork achieved the goal of becoming personal and striking an emotion and there are no rules that state this emotion should always be happy and fluffy. I'm personally inspired by a different kind of image, one that challenges my feelin

Nested Stacks in Sta.sh (Beta Testers)
Organizing your Sta.sh has been made easier than ever! You can now create stacks within stacks in your Sta.sh, giving you even more creative control over your projects!
You can also put certain files of a project in a sub-stack, so that you can share certain files with other deviants without having to share the full project. This makes sharing works-in-progress a smooth and simple process that won't compromise your work flow.

Changes to the Prints Agreement
As part of a general review of the Prints Program, we noticed that the Prints Agreement needed clarity. The Prints Agreement has been updated, and Prints sellers should familiarize themselves with the changes made.
