She took slow, tentative steps through the darkness. There was dry, hard-packed dirt beneath her paws and a black void sky over her head. There was no sign of life anywhere... only scattered rocks and dead trees, which reached up like great jagged claws from the bleak landscape. She was searching... though she was not entirely sure what for. She recognized, however, the sense of urgency in the very air around her.
She seemed to walk forever. Or had she just started? In part she felt as though she’d been walking for only a few moments, yet she had a sense that she had been at it for far too long. Sometimes the path even seemed to repeat on itself. Was she lost? Where was the thing she was looking for? She had to find it! If she didn’t do… something… soon, all would be lost! And no matter how long or far she walked, she could never quite get there!

Letting out another growl, Toothless leaped with all his force from where he stood as a great flamethrower struck him at his feet. Dashing in between trees, he realized that trying to stay close to where Hiccup was became useless as the Timberjack kept firing one scorching flamethrower after another, not giving him a single chance to stop for air or counter her attacks with his own lightning ball. Following his movements, several trees were cut down by the intimidating Timberjack wings and smaller rocks crushed beneath her feet as she chased Toothless around in great circles. Not even hiding behind bushes or anything that could serve as a cover stopped her from firing blindly around her, making Toothless worried that if he kept running around, dodging the attacks like this close to where Hiccup was, one of the flamethrowers might end up striking him, intentionally or not. Toothless just wished he would wake up, so that he had least could get away while he averted her attention. But no

"Oh, for Odin's sake "
"Hiccup? Are you up there?"
It had been such a peaceful morning. For once, there hadn't been a morning fight with Toothless, nor had Stoick woke Hiccup up. He had thought that he would finally have a chance to have a day off, to sleep. But of course, if not Toothless or Stoick were there to destroy it, someone else would. This time, it was Astrid.
Hiccup would usually be happy and excited to see Astrid, but today he didn't actually want to see anyone. Wow, did he really think this? Yes, he did. "Yes, I am." Hiccup groaned from his squiggly bed.
Astrid looked around the house, knowing that Hiccup was still in his bed. She didn't want to force him out of bed, even though he wanted him to get up. She giggled quietly at the mess in the house. You could tell that there was no woman around, to clean. There were weapons and tools of all sorts, on the dining table. There were dirty dishes, bowls and plates under them, and Hiccup's many books and papers.

The second time, it was frightening.
The third time, it made him jump.
The fourth time, it was enough to make him do a double-take.
But by the fifth time that Stoick the Vast had woken up to find a sleeping Night Fury hanging from the living room rafters, it had become downright annoying.
The dragon slept inverted like a bat, which wouldn't have been a problem, if he hadn't insisted on doing so right in front of the front door. All Stoick wanted to do was to get up, get to his morning affairs in the town, and get on with his day. But unfortunately, all this required the ability to get out of the house, which was quite impossible with a drowsy no, scratch that, dead Night Fury blocking the way. Toothless didn't snore, fidget, growl, or move in his sleep. In fact, that was the crux of the problem. The beast slept more soundly than a rock.
Cautiously, Stoick shoved the dragon to one side, wondering if this would rous

It was like the rope bridge he had been balancing on for years finally snapped and he was dangling so close to the other side it was almost too much to bear.
The winds were changing before him in every direction, but changing nonetheless.
He finally had the respect of his father and tribe—but it was fake. He finally had a friend that understood who he really was without pretense—but he was a dragon. And then there was Astrid. Did she even fit into the equation?
He took her up into the air expecting a short flight to calm her down and came out of it with his cheeks stained pink from blushing and a wide eyed expression.
Had Astrid just kissed his cheek?
It was too much to take in past her putting his arms around him when they discovered the dragon’s nest. She clung to him like she was terrified of every new thing that came her way, but all of that realization didn’t come crashing on down to Hiccup until he was suddenly faced with her runnin

The boy stayed close to the right wall, not quite confident in the semi dark that was most of the Autobot base when alone. The mechs didn't need nearly as much light as the humans did after all, so half the base, as Ratchet explained once, was kept at minimum light levels to none for power conservation.

It was a peaceful morning in the small village of Berk. Well, as peaceful as a Viking village can be. Sure, there was the stray axe thrown here, and the occasional dragon shooting flame there, but overall, the streets were quiet, the air calm. The sun was casting beautiful purple and pink rays across the clouds that lay against the horizon, and the sheep were grazing peacefully on the sloped hillside with no fear of dragon abduction. All in all, with the clear, serene skies and the refreshing wind that wound around the houses, the morning could be best described as-
Well, on second thought, the full extent of the morning's peacefulness may never be known in its entirety, because the reverie was abruptly broken by an enraged cry sounding from the tall house at the top of the hill. The Chieftain's house, to be precise, though anyone listening would note that it was not the chieftain himself who was presently sounding various expressions of

Having reached far away from his sight, Astrid stopped in her track to catch a breather, resting her hands on her knees while swallowing everything that had happened within the past hour. The reason behind Hiccup's sudden and unrealistic success during dragon training was that he had hid and tamed his own dragon! A dragon unlike anyone she had ever seen before, filled with personality and obvious acceptance towards humans in return for Hiccup's familiarity towards it. The minute she'd met the dragons' eyes when it snuggled up to Hiccup as it was the most natural thing it had all become clear to her. And just as she had fled both out of misbelief and with the intention to tell the first Viking she met, she had suddenly found herself several feet up in the air, clenched tightly by a pair of great claws, her feet dangling helplessly beneath her.
Never in her whole life, not even in her

That probably wouldn't be a bad thing, Hiccup reflected. At least she's happy when I'm embarrassed. Most of the time anyway.
He had obtained her sizes from Gothi the Village Elder, who knew everything and wasn't too prudish to hide it from Hiccup. If it had been Snotlout or even Fishlegs, Gothi probably would've slapped him with her stick. But she knew Hiccup, and she had seen his needlework. He had also introduced Gothi to a brood of Terrible Terrors that had become attached to her small shoulders; in return, she gave him the sizes that he needed. It was official, Hiccup was stuck. Stuck in a tree. A really big, scary, tree.
It had started this early that evening. He and Toothless were having a fun time that day, playing together and causing mayhem to the nearby animals that lived in their little trench, as well as sort of splashing around in the water (Hiccup didn't want to get his clothes wet, so they basically had a lame splash fight at the edge of the lake and barely got any drops on each other).
Then they had simply sat around and Hiccup was enjoying the view of the wildlife and plants and scenery that encompassed there little area. Then he had noticed that the sun was getting down. Getting the urge to witness the probably-amazing sunset, he looked over at the big tree that crawled down the side of the trench.
Standing from his comfy spot right by the black dragon's belly, he trotted over to the large tree and began to climb it, figuring since it looked so big and thick, it'd be easy to find a nice s

A single ray of sunlight broke through the clouds, causing an almost uncharacteristic smile to spread across the young woman’s face. She sat back in her seat, and watched as fellow Londoners went to and fro on their business. Turning back to her novel, she once again became oblivious to the outside world, finding the words of the late Miss Austen far more entertaining than the chaos of the city.
She was completely unaware of a pair of emerald eyes watching her from across the way. He was watching her with a straight face, one that caused many passerby to question. He smiled and nodded politely whenever he took notice, but for the most part, his attention was entirely focused on (Y/n), the beauty that had stolen his heart.

It wasn’t just what he had done. It was the fact that Nightflier didn’t know what his father was thinking. Sure, everyday Nightstalker made sure to talk to the alienated air commander, but it was mostly just stuff about Bumblebee, or when that became too stressing, stuff about Ratchet or Cliffjumper. Never about him. Never about himself. Never about her. It was like they had a silent truce on what things they could talk about, and the family wasn’t one. Her secrets were hers; his secrets were his; Nightflier’s oppression was his own.
It bothered him. Nightflier didn’t know what to do, but he knew he couldn’t forgive him. Could he? No, no he couldn’t. He knew what growing up hungry was like. Nearly starving into shutdown. It was finally Ratchet putting his foot down and telling Nightflier to DO something about it that Nightflier decided he would.
Thus, with a little help from his human friends, he was tracking Nightstalker. It was nice and warm out, even though it was still early. Ha, his dad was probably still sleeping.
