Exposure, Getting Better, & Having the ChopsEXPOSURE & GETTING BETTER AT WHAT YOU DOExposure, Getting Better, & Having the Chops3 years ago in Personal More Like This
I'm only going off of my own personal experiences talking about these few things. (And I'm not specifically talking about ONLY dA here.) So take it with as many grains of salt as you can.
I've recently been asked questions like "How do I get people to see my work?", "Why am I not receiving commission inquiries?", "Why isn't anyone following my work?", "What can I do to get better?". Often, and I answered it before, the answer is as simple as this:
Create, as in, DRAW. PAINT. RENDER. SCULPT. You have to do develop a tolerance (or the obvious definition: LOVE) for creating if you want exposure and to get better. You have to LOVE the drawing or illustration that you HATE how it came out in the end. You have to ask yourself after every piece, what could I have done to do that differently. And you have to do this frequently.
Some folks come on the scene, post once or twice a week, and expect an audience to flock yo

Artist Alley 101: Things to Consider/ResourcesHello everyone! Welcome to the 4th and final part of my Artist Alley tutorial!Artist Alley 101: Things to Consider/Resources2 years ago in Personal More Like This
This is meant to be a good start for those who have never been a part of an artist alley before, as well as a nice refresher to those of you who are veterans of alleys everywhere! I will try to be as detailed as possible, but make the information easy to reference and read through!
Hope you enjoy, and feedback is definitely appreciated! Let me know your thoughts, reactions, some of your own alley stories, as well as if you have any suggestions to add to this tutorial! I definitely haven't thought of everything, so if you had new ideas to share, I'd love to hear them!

Advice for ArtistsNot too often, but at least once a month, I spend some time in the forums. I noticed that a popular topic was 'how to become popular on dA' (no pun intended). Here are some suggestions from my end of the spectrum. More on how to become a better artist in general and promote your art more efficiently (but I guess those are the key steps in becoming popular on dA, heh).Advice for Artists2 years ago in Personal More Like This
1. Post your art in as many places as you can
After posting a deviation, dA makes it easy to post it to other sites. Make an account on pinterest, tumblr, etc. Don't worry if you can't tend to it much, the point is you want your art in as many places as possible. This heightens the chance of people seeing your art, some of these users might even be on dA, as well.
Other suggestions are instagram, artician.
2. Focus on what you're good at
While it's fun to dabble in different mediums, the more mediums you work with, the less time you are spending "mastering" any one of them. I'd say 2

DeviantART's Premium Content Platform, which provides the ability for content creators to become sellers and generate real earnings, now gives buyers the ability to request refunds. If a member purchases a download from a seller and they are unhappy with the purchase, they may request a refund. The seller can then approve or deny the refund.

Journal about how ur opinion doesnt matterHello yes this is a journal attempting to explain why ur opinion doesnt matter to the artist 90% of the time. The other 10% of the time where it does matter are the following:Journal about how ur opinion doesnt matter3 months ago in Personal More Like This
1. If you are commissioning them
2. If they actually ask you for your opinion
If it's neither of those then shhh.
Now I wanna clarify a few thing
1. It's okay to have an opinion on someone's work, everyone does.
2. It's okay to express it, it's okay to have a personal response to an artist's work
3. HOWEVER it's not ok to pull in personal opinion in a self entitled manner and pretend it matters. AND THEN GET UPSET when the artist dont care.
Differences between things:
Constructive criticism =/= opinion:
Not the same !! Criticism isnt 100% objective but is generally way less biased than opinion. Telling someone you preferred their old work isnt criticism. Telling someone that you'd have preferred something to be drawn another way isnt criticism. (A whole other issue, sometimes criticism isnt wanted but that's not

J. Paul Getty - The Liberation of Masterpieces as Open Content
The J. Paul Getty Museum has initiated an Open Content Program to share, freely and without restriction, as many of the Getty’s digital resources as possible.
A first sharing of 4,600 high-resolution images of the Museum’s collection, including many masterworks, has just been made available and all are free to use, modify, and publish for any purpose.
In a brilliant stroke, the Getty Museum has liberated one of the top collections of art in the world not just for access but for use. The museum is literally “beaming up” the great works in its collection as living resour
For those of you who say:"I can't do great works of art because all I have is MS Paint"For those of you who say:1 year ago in Personal More Like This
It's NOT the program, it's the artist using the program.
EDIT: I should probably mention this was 50+ hours or work for this. So don't be discouraged and think this person actually just sat down and did this in like 5 minutes, haha! And yes, it IS the newer version of MS Paint (Windows 7 and higher maybe? I don't know if Windows 8 has MS Paint or not).
How to: AnatomyHuman anatomy is, for sure, one of the hardest things to draw. But at the same time it's one of the most interesting things to draw, because... hey... we love making characters, and it's nice if they at least look a bit like a human being. I'm still far from perfect at drawing the human body, yet I've accumulated some very useful tips, tricks and websites. How to: Anatomy3 months ago in Art Features More Like This
Drawing from life
Drawing from life is awesome!
Look for life drawing classes in your environment, or if they're not available; ask your friends to pose for you. Go have a drink in the city when the weather is nice, and sketch people passing by. There's nowhere you learn more about human anatomy than by observing and sketching real people. There's only one downside to this; dynamic poses are tricky, as it's hard for any model to hold a difficult pose for a long time.
And no... drawing (nearly) naked people in a drawing class isn't awkward. I

Inspiration: Art websitesMany people asked me about which sites I use (or used) to learn and keep myself updated about art. So I decided to make a list with art websites that offer tutorials, advice, or other content that inspired me. Of course there are many other individual artists that inspire me greatly, but I've tried to keep this list to the ones that provide the community of advice and tutorials (otherwise I could go on forever).Inspiration: Art websites8 months ago in Art Features More Like This
