Golden Age of IllustrationGolden Age of Illustration3 years ago in Art Features More Like This
When in the second half of the 19th century newspapers and illustrated books became popular and widespread thanks to improvements in printing technology, many artists found their base to spread their skills. The official time span of the Golden Age of Illustration is said to be from 1880s to 1920s, but it varied a little bit between Europe and America.
While European illustrators were influenced mostly by the Pre-Raphaelites, Art Nouveau and Post-Impressionists (especially by Les Nabis, a group of Parisian artists), their American colleagues focused around Howard Pyle's Brandywine School of American Illustration in the Brandywine Valley.
Amongst the most popular artists of this time we find Arthur Rackham (UK), Howard Pyle (US), Ivan Bilibin (Russia), Theodor Kittelsen (Norway), Edmund Dulac (France), John Bauer (Sweden), Beatrix Potter (UK), N.C. Wyeth (US), Sulamith Wülfing (

I really need the money y_y
I’m a university student in a foreign country and not being born in the UK (but in Europe) means I don’t get financial help from the government…
Therefore I’d appreciate it if you guys could commission me ;u; They aren't expensive or at least I don't think they are in relation to what I'm able to draw... Any little thing helps, please!
What will I draw?
Both traditional and digital drawings.
For traditional coloring, I'll do colored pencils, felt tips and crayon drawings.

EDIT: Some things have suddenly come up for me at the end of the month, so I'm moving the contest end date from Oct 31st, to Nov 30th.
Well, we haven't had a contest in quite some time, so I thought I would start one.
The theme will be "The Women of Dreamworks". This is just a small, and hopefully fun contest. I don't have much to offer for prizes, just some points.
However, MoonyMina has offered drawing prizes to go along with the points. (see the prizes below)
The point of this contest is to celebrate the great female characters that Dreamworks has created and brought to life. So each picture MUST feature TWO or more female Dreamworks characters (crossovers between Dreamworks movies is welcomed).
No mature pictures.
This is an art contest only, so no fanfics.
Both Traditional and dig

Everyone's entry was REALLY GREAT! You all really had outstanding ideas ;u; I loved all of the entries and it was so much fun seeing all of the different clothing designs. Thank you so much for entering my contest - it was a lot of fun, especially being the third one to run for clothing!! But! The cash needs delivery, so let's see the rankings...
This design was SUPER creative and stood out as the most original. It fits his species and personality, as well as his aesthetic interests while still being fun to look at. The concept behind it is adorable and creative and the 404 on the back of the jacket is a nice touch.
This costume definitely hits the majority of his interests! The cloak design is very sleek and interesting, and the glowing bottom half of the outfit is a nice touch, especially with how much he likes glows. The c

Whilst these ideas are not unique or special to anime and can be used in other styles, the focus of this article will be the anime style. Clothing is a diverse topic that has a lot of shared principals that can be used.
The fibres that are used to make up a fabric sample are diverse and can be used to make a number of different fabric types. Using a simple search for a type of fabric yields hundreds of images that give you an idea on how it bends and folds and flows.
Take for example these sample top materials:
Mix of polyester and cotton, leather, silk, cotton, polyester-cotton, polyester spray jacket.
They all have different fold patterns and interact with the light source differently. The leather, silk and spray jacket are quite shiny on their ridges.
The hoodie and t-shirt have less rigid folds, whilst the cotton shirt has sharp angles.

1. GET OUTSIDE
This comes as a very first tip for a reason. Whether it's outside your house or outside your mind, changing your perspective will help the ideas flow.
2. DRINK ENOUGH WATER
Your brain functions much better when well-hydrated. Symptoms of mild dehydration include tiredness, headache, muscle weakness, and dizziness - these are certainly not going to help you to think straight.
Exercise produces endorphins that might as well be responsible for your next brilliant idea.
Dreaming is very important, inside a dream nothing is impossible. Use that to your advantage.
5. STOP WATCHING TELEVISION
Or better yet, get rid of the damn thing. TV is a mind-killer. Turn it off. Even if th

So, what you need to do: Draw any of my original characters! Pretty easy, right? There's no theme (unless you want one ), so you're pretty free- as long as you keep the character recognisable, haha. When you're done, you can post a link here or Note me, whatever. ^_^
You can draw as few or many of my OCs as you like, and you're welcome to draw them with your own
You can re-design their clothes and hair if you feel the need.
It must be new, original work. No bases. (That's kind of my only definite rule.)
Just visual stuff, puriisu, no lit this time! D:

Many people ask me to teach them or show them how to draw certain things, or to give them tips. And I always find myself telling them the same thing over and over again... "Research what you want to draw and practice!"
As an artist, it's always a good idea to research your subject in order to really grasp the "feel" of what it is. Anatomy, characteristics, body language, flexibilities, expressions, limitations, everything. You should literally learn the subject inside and out.(even for cartoony animals, it's a good idea to draw the real thing first...) One of the best ways of doing that?
As an example, there are some pretty cool ones on domestic cats. I can draw lions, tigers, sabertooths, any big cat really.... but domesticated cats? Though extremely similar, have fairly different placements in anatomy.
So I wanted to take this quick moment and share a documenta

Texas Again, Davis Gone?, and DOMAAbortion Bill AgainTexas Again, Davis Gone?, and DOMA2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Remember how awesome it was that Wendy Davis was able to filibuster her way through not getting a potentially damaging abortion bill from passing? Remember how the bill was DOA by the end of the night? Yeah... that's not happening now. Texas governor Rick Perry is calling for a second special hearing to be held on July 1st and is saying "Even the woman who filibustered in the Senate the other day was born into difficult circumstances. It's just unfortunate that she hasn't learned from her own example that every life must be given a chance to realize its full potential and that every life matters."
Wow... what an A-hole. Maybe it's because she was born into difficult circumstances that she's able to see things not in such stark black and white contrasts and sees how damaging this bill will be. Perry went on to say "it's lawmakers' duty to prevent abortions, regardless of the conditions into which a child may be bor

How to create your own SketchbookA Sketchbook is a special notebook to draw in. Many current and previous artists uch as Leonardo Da Vinci, have their own Sketchbook as a diary to write down their thoughts, ideas and experiences, whatever comes to mind. Also they might use a sketchbook to note down instructions or important facts about art. However, this 'bought' sketchbook can be very expensive and sometimes difficult to get in stores. How to create your own Sketchbook2 months ago in Personal More Like This
There is however, an alternative to having your own sketchbook without buying it. This alternative is, of course, to create your own sketchbook to your style and your taste. This involves a little work but is great for being part of your artistic growth and development. Also you can save money because the materials are not as expensive as buying a ready made sketchbook in a store. You can spend even less if some of the materials could already be found in your home.
Are you ready to start ? Follow my instructions and you will have your own sketchbook. It's worth a try!

Writing a Six Word Story3wyl recently posted a SixWordStories journal asking members how they write their stories, and she has kindly allowed me this opportunity to talk in a little more detail about my particular writing process. This blog isn’t meant to be a tutorial or even suggestions as to how to write your own. It’s really just a chance for me to discuss a subject that’s become very important to me.Writing a Six Word Story2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Well, to start off with, I like to read other people’s work. It’s what I did before I ever began writing my own six word stories, and I still do it to inspire myself. Sometimes someone else’s story will directly lead to one of my own. (And then I credit story and author in my notes.) But generally it’s not as definite as that. Seeing what others are doing sparks off ideas and sends me in a fresh direction.
Prompts assist me a great deal as well. The m

I'm Bansini , and I'm going to be linking you to great tutorials that explain how to create 10 different DIY art materials. This is super useful when:
you need art materials fast but the store's closed,
the materials you need are really expensive,
you just want a quick trial of the medium,
the material is not available in your vicinity and you'd have to order it online
you need something cheap, quick and easy for Halloween!
I've got a 'Halloween' section for each one, which tells you how they can be of use during the season of scares. Without further ado, here they are!
10. Sticker Gum
I've seen a lot of artists make stickers, but sticker paper can be very expensive and sometimes it doesn't last too long. Use these instructions to create your own, depending on how much you'd like them to stick!
My version: I learnt this one during KG summer camp.
First, you draw your design on either a piece of paper
