This is the first working version that actually works, it has no GUI whatsoever and it's experimental...
So if you want to try this out unzip the zip and put the Icons folder in C:\Windows\Resources.
Then Run Iconcustomizer.exe and you're ready to go!
Now open a cmd prompt as admin and run the following command:
After that you can install the included elementary(mod) theme with the following command:
To restore the default icons run the following command:
You can also create your own icon theme by making a new folder in C:\Windows\Resources\Icons, Make sure the folder name has no spaces in it.
After that you can copy your icon files inside the folder and apply your icons with:
Your icon pack does not need to include all icons you can also include just even one or two icons.
The program does not

I usually don't use dA journal to write about anything other than update on what I'm working on, but I have some important issues to address. As the Windows theming committee grows, it has been becoming harder and harder to control thief. As a result, I find myself constantly battling against thieves who shamefully steals my skin. What's even worse is that people are monetizing them for money through ad links or putting in dangerous adware through installation packs (aka skinpacks). Here is my theme, Acid, being used without my consent: http://techdhruv.com/fusion-skin-pack-for-windows-788-1/. It was posted by the deviant thedhruv. Like most skinpacks, the installer for this has adware and toolbars that the average user would not know how to avoid. The average skinpack from this person doesn't even give proper credit to where he has gotten
Neat little Windows 8/10 trickHi everyone,Neat little Windows 8/10 trick3 months ago in Personal More Like This
Just thought I share a little trick I came across on Windows 8 and Windows 10 when it comes to the Start Screen/Menu. Many people are probably aware that you can apply custom tiles to the Start Screen via tools such as OblyTile or Pin More. However, the problem with this is that it leaves some inconsistency between the start screen icon and the desktop icon of the app. At the same time, modifying your system is something that some people don't want to do. So here's a simple trick for making metro/modern style tiles without any system modification or the need to install an app. Here's is the result of this:
How is this possible? All it takes is a white 48x48 ico with a color outlining it:
Windows will automatically take the outline color and apply it to the tile. The downside to this is that there is only a handful of colors you can choose from and for some it may be harder to apply than OblyTile.
If people are interested, I am thinking about making an icon set specifically

How to (sort of) get Truetransparency on Win7A lot of people ask me how to make TrueTransparency play nice with Windows 7.How to (sort of) get Truetransparency on Win74 years ago in Personal More Like This
The short answer is: You can... well sort of.
Here are the general problems (I'm going to assume people with Win7 are on the 64-bit version, or Win7 x64).
1) Explorer windows are not skinned (or any 64-bit programs for that matter).
2) Explorer windows skin, but the toolbar is completely transparent.
First, you will need both TrueTransparency x86 and x64.
For your convenience, here is a zip with both (x64 can be hard to find): http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7100381/TrueTransparency.zip
To skin all windows, you will need to run both the TrueTransparency.exe in the TrueTransparency x64 AND TrueTransparency x86 folders.
At this point, all windows should be skinned (with the exclusion of "special" windows like Google chrome, Command Prompt, GIMP/Photoshop, Task Manager, etc.
You may notice that the explorer toolbar is completely transparent. There are two workarounds for this.
One involves removing the too
Auto-renaming EXE files in deviationsAs you might know, deviantART doesn't allow uploading of EXEs or EXEs in ZIPs for security reasons. Many deviants rename the exe extension to something else, include a note for users to rename the extension, zip the folder and upload it. It becomes a hassle for users to rename the extension back to exe if there are multiple files.Auto-renaming EXE files in deviations2 months ago in Personal More Like This
There's a way to automate the renaming so do this instead:
1. Rename the extension from exe to rename_exe. (If you know how to use CMD, cd into the directory where your files are located and type rename *.exe *.rename_exe)
2. Include a file named Run Me First.cmd with the following text:
rename *.rename_exe *.exe
3. Zip the folder as usual and upload to deviantART.
Litestep on Windows 7 (UPDATED)UPDATE: this tutorial has gotten a lot of attention since i posted it 2 years ago.. so i decided to update the information, add information and even a nice video tutorial by andredk which is a little long, but very detailed. i updated the old journal and submitted a new one for good measureLitestep on Windows 7 (UPDATED)4 years ago in Personal More Like This
installing litestep is not a big deal. it has dependencies like any other application, and without them it will error. assuming your system meets all the requirements right now you can stop reading this and install litestep using the Omar Installer. (omar is the guy who created the installer) litestep was built using the x86 architecture so a x86 system is a prerequisite, however people have managed to install and use litestep on x64 systems.

It's going to be rare that I make a brand new journal entry for The Alley, because honestly everywhere on DA, contests are running ALL THE TIME! So please be sure to check up on this entry to see what contests are going down!
Here are some contests that you might want to go ahead and have a look. I want to encourage those of you who feel a little intimidated by entering in contest/challenges to take a chance and enter. No one's going to bite your head off for giving it your best (if someone does let me know, cuz no one messes with my Gimp-Stars ). Enter, and don't be discouraged If you don't win, it's okay. The important thing is that you're moving outside your comfort zone and improving your craft.
If there's a contest you want listed in The Alley, let me know!

Hola!

How to deal with criticism?Hi everyone! I'm Megan, but I guess you can call me Bunny. I usually go by that. Anyway, I'm one of the new admins here-I'm so super excited to be here, and be able to help this wonderful group. Today I'm just going to make a little blog about how to deal with criticism. Especially as artists, we all get it. So, I'll try and help. ♥How to deal with criticism?2 years ago in Personal More Like This
1. Listen up. Figure out whether the criticism is constructive or simply rude. If criticism could be helpful, lend all ears and try to learn from it instead of getting defensive.
2. Respond calmly. Be respectful no matter what, and thank someone if the feedback is useful. If the critique is uncalled for (that story you wrote was crap!), kill 'em with kindness. A simple smile makes you the bigger person.
3. Don’t take it personally. Try to remove yourself from the situation and focus on what’s being critiqued.
4. Keep on keepin' on. Remember that the criticism represents just one person’s point of view. Know what your strengths are a

Hello Mike! And thank you for your time in doing this interview! First off, lets start with an introduction to yourself. Anything you want to share about yourself!
Hey, how's it going? My Name's Michael, and I'm an Art Director for the Augusta Magazine, here in Augusta, GA. And in cases anybody didn't notice, I love to draw. I love to draw western style art and manga/anime art.
I'm 30 years old, and... Damn, I guess that makes me the oldest of the group members here? LOL But what can I say? I've been around comics, manga and anime nearly all my life.
I love to draw the characters from Naruto... Namely Sakura. Just everything about her character I love. And of course, NaruSaku.
1. What got you into art in the first place?
I guess it was my love of comic books such as Spider Man and the X-Men. Also, my older brother is an excellent artist as well, and seeing his art made me want

So here I am, armed with a snickers bar and a cherry coke, ready to do a new feature! I thought it might be fun rather than doing the boringly traditional "Thank you for the Watch" comment, which I do thank you for by the way! This is just my way of showing my appreciation for you to take the time out to add me to your watch list. You are all awesome! I think I might start doing this regularly instead of going with the comments thing. You all are the entire reason why I have this account. I love seeing what you do with my stock. It doesn't matter how advanced your skill is, or if you are a beginner.
Did you know, that as a watcher, you have first crack at anything in my gallery? If you need a free link to something in my regular gallery (and you follow dA credit guidelines) all you need to do is send me a note asking for it. I will send it your way, asap. Also, if you have purchased any of my regular gallery stock (Exclusives don't count) and have used it, cr

I wish I remembered exactly how it all started, but I'm going to go with my best guess and say I heard about it from another student when I started college back when I had just turned 18. Up until then I had been using various art forums such as wcreplays.com, animex.com, sijun.com and cgsociety.org so the discovery of a portfolio website was a pretty cool thing.
I started posting on here and got moderate attention, I had been drawing for a long time at that point so my art was in a state where it was at least interesting to look at. If anything it was a fantastic place to get inspiration and look at art from amazingly talented artists.
It wasn't until I decided to color the line-art for the following piece that everything really started.
Post-it Notes: Japanese Love Trivias (part2)The word "Konkatsu" which means "activities to find a partner for marriage". "Kon" is an abbreviation for "Kekkon", means marriage and "Katsu" is an abbreviation for "Katsudou", means activity. In Tokyo, there's a place for marriage hunting named "Konkatsu Bar" . The authors of "The Era of Marriage Hunting" cite changes in Japanese society, where traditional matchmaking -- often by so-called neighborhood aunties -- is fading away. Bosses in Japanese companies also used to match up women and men working under them -- then force the women to quit once they were married.A red cheek or hatchings on the cheek represent blushing, usually used when embarrassed by romantic feelings, while oval "blush dots" on the cheeks represent rosy cheeks. This can sometimes be confused with a scribble on the cheek, indicating injury. Sometimes when the character is expressing strong emotions, such as sadness, a long blush through the nose would appear. When a friend mentioned the girl's name, the mainPost-it Notes: Japanese Love Trivias (part2)8 months ago in Personal More Like This

Please don't copy and paste this trivias to other sites without our permission. He allowed me to post this research here in his DA. This is a request from a friend from DA. We’ve gathered some interesting facts for Sasusaku, Sasuhina and Naruhina but Narusaku (Naruto and Sakura) has lots of connections in myths, legends, literatures and other categories that we've seen from the net, book references and other documents from public libraries. Most of these researched were taken from Wikipedia, Narutopedia and Wiki-couples. We also added some interesting facts from Databooks.
This researched facts were biased that means that each trivias of your favorite couples can be negative or positive. So please, avoid rants or negative comments in this journal.
