Most denizens of the West think of New Zealand as a little known outpost of civilization somewhere beyond Australia at the ends of the Earth.
Could any land be any farther from the European motherland, birthplace of the Renaissance that is the Genesis-point of the visual arts narrative we continue expanding and evolving today? And yet this remote country of islands in the Pacific has suddenly become a cinematic storytelling powerhouse, a film-friendly factory for the creation of some of the most important touchstone mass entertainment experiences to influence our popular culture in recent years.

BJD Doll FAQBJD Doll FAQ4 years ago in Personal More Like This
Please read this if you are interested to learn more about the dolls I photograph. I dont have time to keep answering the same questions over and over again >_< I will be updating this journal entry as time goes on. Feel free to add a question in the comments section and I will try to answer it.
❤ BASICS ❤
What are these dolls?
They are BJD - ball jointed dolls. If you search Google with those keywords you will get plenty of results with companies and other info about them. This is the Wikipedia article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ball-jointed_doll. Also this LJ answers some questions too http://bjd-wtf.livejournal.com/ . If you want to learn more, I would suggest Den of Angels forum (http://www.denofangels.com/forums/).
Do you make them?
No I don't make the actual doll, I don't sculpt it. I am a customizer, I paint their faceups. I am basically a makeup artist for resin dolls. You can find the link to my commission shop

Opening the Darkest Door
I have recently come across a most disturbing phenomenon in my studies of the Diabolic Infestation of the Soul. It seems there is a most frightening psychological conundrum when considering the concept of demonic possession even the most remote possibility of reality upon our earthly plane is the notion that just believing it may be true could very likely be the spark needed for the Demon to discover, seek out, and ultimately inhabit its next vessel of evil: You.
From the Exorcist through Paranormal Activity, generation after generation of “believers” seem to have come to the reali

Notes on Character Design
I received the question pictured below at my tumblr blog. In case it's useful to anyone here, I decided to go ahead and use this otherwise dormant journal to share the article I put together in response.
Character design and drawing are tome-sized topics and even if I had all the answers (I don't - I have a lot to learn), I'm not sure I could communicate them effectively. Here are some thoughts an ideas that might help, though.
First, some general things...
Let some of that anxiety go. This isn't a hard science. There's no wrong way,
Oblivion: Part 1 How long have I been rotting in this forsaken place? So long have I watched as the pitiful weeds struggle to find life in the cracks of the stones. Observed as the ivy crawling through the small barred window high above me. I've seen people come and go, however none seem to have stayed as long as I. After such a time, I eventually forgot how I came to be here, or rather do I not want to remember? Sometimes I will forget even what my own appearance is. Who am I? I feel my face trying to remember, tracing the edge of my face. So thin, so frail have I become. I was stronger once. My hands run through my hair. My hair once had a crisp short cut, but now my hair ran down my back. Deep red strands would fall out as I continued messing with my hair. If only I could tie it up, or at least cut it, it would be a small peace in my everyday.Oblivion: Part 11 year ago in Personal More Like This

Some writer's stuffAfter long thinking hours I've finally decided who's the main hero of "10 Stars". XDSome writer's stuff2 years ago in Personal More Like This
It's been a long way, really. Starting with a more or less cliche story and characters and developing them into really deep personalitites with a story so tangled, that sometimes it's difficult even for me to put all the things together. Because all events are consequent and interrelated + the period of time is impressing. XD
So, yesterday I've come to the decision, which is not less complicated than the story itself. The main hero remains Anwen, but Liort is the one who tells the story, and all the events are interpeted by him and from his POV. Which I think is rather logic.
I've also got one idea about the story which I find really great and witty! If I use it, the ending will be just WOW. But there's one problem - Ardel. This interpretation of the events will ruin his image. On the other hand, it may show the futility of his intentions. Actually, there are many pros

3D Printing with Bees3D Printing with Bees1 year ago in Art Features More Like This
How awesome is this? Dewar's (the whiskey brand) created an ad campaign that used bees as a "3D printer" ...or as they called it "3-B printing." They created shells of the sculpture they wanted to create and let 80,000 bees loose inside of it. Over time, the bees created beautiful honeycomb sculptures.
Nice work Dewar's and the agencies behind the campaign, Sid Lee New York and The Ebeling Group!

The Steampunk Menagerie
The magic of thousands of years of natural selection and other evolutionary factors has created in all living creatures pretty much the optimal version of each for where each fits in the world. But never tell a human being, especially a steampunk, that there’s no need to fix what isn’t broken.
Here’s a collection of interesting imaginings of mechanical steampunk replacements for the somewhat mundane denizens of the actual natural world. For some people, especially some artists, until there’s been an upgrade or enhancement to anything, there just isn’t any “there” there.
Long Hair?!Well, I need to write this journal because one member of DA gave me a challenge - not to cut my hair until July 2013.Long Hair?!3 years ago in Personal More Like This
I think that it won't be so hard, because I cut my hair twice or three times a year a few cm.
I know that my hair is very long and it will be longer, but what do you think about it?
Will it look as good as now when it's longer?

Change is not something that we take lightly, because it affects our collective identity. It was important for us to define who we are and what we’re made of at our core before we changed anything. We all have our own understanding of what that means, but the process of getting that core story down on paper took almost a year.
The result is “Bleed and Breed Art.” This is our center of gravity and our reason for getting out of bed i

There is no cosmic law that states artists must suffer many long years and demeaning day-jobs before a window of opportunity cracks open just enough to hop on through.
Fellow deviant Brian Kesinger is a case in point.
His first “day-job” in 1996—he was hired straight out of his senior year of high school—was drawing Tarzan for Disney.
Brian stayed at Disney and he considers every day there a part of his ongoing education as an artist. He most recent
