I can make it. You think to yourself.
You quickly wind up the music box to keep the puppet away, before turning on the lights in the vents.
The dark eyes of the chicken girl stare into yours. You quickly pull the Freddy mask over your face, breathing hard. The red light flashing tells you the music box is winding down. You squeeze your eyes shut and hope for this to be quick.
Chica then leaves.
"Thank god." You say softly to yourself. You wind up the music box, and check the clock. It's almost 5.
You sit back and close your eyes.
Quickly opening your eyes, you look forward to see the yellow haired girl staring at you with her black eyes. You quickly put the mask over your face.
"NO, NO! PLEASE NO! I MADE IT SO FAR!" You beg.
Chica answers in a soft voice. "Be quiet. You don't want the others to hear you."
You slowly lower your mask and shoot her a questioning glance.
"Y-you're...Not gonna hurt me?"
She shakes her head and narrows her eyes. "I'm not as stup
Character Voice Exercise II'm doing this as a sample of this twenty-question exercise: http://fav.me/d5dbegxCharacter Voice Exercise I3 years ago in Sketches More Like This
I'm writing in a loose script format, since I like it.
My Characters (hover over to see names)
1. Another character asks your character to come to a birthday or other party... in honor of a person (Kendryn*) your character doesn't particularly like.
Rose: Uh... Actually, Kendryn and I don't get along very well, so I don't think it'd be a good idea. She would probably be happier if I didn't show up.
Dark: No. I hate that idiot.
Zaen: Um, I think it might be better if I didn't attend... Kendryn and I do not get along... at all.
Kirrah: Sorry, I am not her friend. You must be very confused.
Athryl: Um... I am sure if it would not be fitting that I attend...
*None of my main five characters like Kendryn much. Don't worry; she has plenty of evil friends to attend her parties.
2a. Your character has a big due date coming up soon and is trying to finish their project, but another ch

“No,” Ant replied.
“Why not?” Sky whined.
“Because I said so.” Ant grinned, that’s what his parents always said to him.

Ant rolled his eyes, “No.”
Ant heard a knock on the door and went to open the door.
Chimney stood waiting at the door. “Hi.”
Ant looked back at Sky, “You can have him now.”
Chimney shrugged and watched Ant leave the room.
“Hi Chim!” Sky said.
“Hey Sky.” Chimney said before sitting down on a chair.
“Can I go outside?”
“I don’t know, can you?

He lost that privilege when he first laid his hands on the stone orb back in Algeria. All he could do was run. Run from the ancient force that cursed his mind right into insanity. This was the second time. The second time running away from his deepest fear. When Daniel got to the end of the stairs he found a lever and pulled. Leo locked his car and walked to the front door. He paused for a moment to rub his eyes. He should have gotten more sleep last night. The movie with Sean had gone too late, and then the phone call had woken him up early... He sighed for a moment, trying to regain his energy and composure. He was tired, but he didn't want to be grumpy. Sean had probably missed him. Leo unlocked the door and pulled it open.
"Holy—!" He jumped back and nearly fell off the front step. "SEAN! What is that?"

“Rosie, why do you keep watching the clock?” Leo asked. “Are you not having any fun building?”
Rosie set the clock next to her pile of toy bricks. “Today’s special day,” she announced. “Daddy’s bringing home a lady.”
“Ohh.” Leo raised his eyebrows. “He’s got a new girlfriend?”
“Yep! He says, he’s been seeing her for a while, he says he likes her a lot. He says she’s super nice.” Rosie paused to spit some hair out of her mouth.

Another RainDark closed his eyes and breathed. The air smelled of leaves, dew, soil, and worms. It had rained around noon, and Dark had waited just long enough for the mud to harden a little before leaving for a midday walk. Today Dark was taking a walk around the edge of the woods. This place was kind of cool. It was all nature—and pretty nature, not ugly like the Borderlands—and nobody even lived here. If Dark was a rich developer guy, he could build a bunch of houses out here and become insanely rich by selling them. But it was too nice to do stuff like that. The trees and grass looked better off undisturbed.
Dark bent down to examine some leafy flower-things. There were all these green leaves creeping out of the forest and covering the ground, and when he looked close, he saw tiny white flowers scattered among them. They came in clusters, and they dangl

Kirrah awoke, sluggishly kicked off her woven blanket, sat up slowly, and listened. She could hear her brothers' breathing on her right, while her father snored on the other side of the tent. And her mother was... gone. That was strange. Usually Kirrah was the first person to wake up.
Kirrah adjusted her clothes and crept to the tent flap. She opened it the tiniest bit and dim pink light filtered in. Oh, she was up so late! None of the men awoke. She carefully pushed the flap farther back and darted outside before the brightness might disturb anyone.
"You're up late," her mother commented. She was stirring one of the fires with a stick while other women cooked raw fish over it.
"I... I am sorry. I must have been tired," Kirrah said. Usually she helped build the fire and scale the fish at daybreak, but this morning the sun already filtered through the lower leaves on the trees. Her m

Miki huffed as she collapsed on the bed. She had traveled across the desert in an easy day because it was small. Though what she came upon was a rainforest and a savanna. Both had their perks and drawbacks. Rainforests held a lot of shelters but were rather hard to traverse whereas plains had little shelter but were easy to traverse. In the end, she sheltered in a jungle tree for the night and started again in the morning across the plain.
What she hated about plains was the lack of trees and thus the lack of wood. She always kept a bit on her so sometimes she could build a small wood shack but if she lost track of time she resorted to a small hole dug into the ground. Now she had come to this mountainous area, one a bit like her own home but with more lakes. The first one, and the one she was beside was large and seemed perfect. Sky turned his head to look at Ant, then coughed again.
"I don't think Sky's going to make it." Deadlox said blandly.

He always hated going to Dimension 72; the altren's enormous world made him feel short.
Bruk dragged a footstool over and climbed onto the counter in the middle of Athryl's workroom. He felt better with his head above Athryl's. This was more like how it was supposed to be.
"So whaddaya been up to lately?" Bruk asked, hoping to get Athryl relaxed first.

"Where did you read that?" he asked, glancing up from his book.
Dark shrugged. "Some online magazine, I think. I forgot exactly where. I just remember it sayin' that reading comprehension drops around 30% soon after sundown. Got somethin' to do with your body clock or somethin' like that," he said. A 30% difference should be big enough to make Zaen consider changing his habits, while not huge enough to seem suspicious. He didn't read scientific stuff, but his artificial memories involved school, so he knew enough academic lingo to sound like he knew what he was talking about.
Zaen pressed his index finger to his lips, letting his other fingers curl under his chin. "Hmm. I suppose I could see how that would make sense. It's more difficult to function when exhausted." He set his bookmark in between the pages of his book.
