Draw Kurayami Contest (500 points)My last contest was a flop so here is another using the same prize money lol. Anyway Kurayami is a hardcore chick, red eyes, gunblades and bad attitude except when she's alone or with her lover Tony when she dissolves into a girlish teenager with an affinity for stockings. Dress her as you like (I recommend looking at some gothic). You can make her as skimpily dressed as you like but please not pure pornography cos you know i'm a girl and not the kind that's into that.Draw Kurayami Contest (500 points)5 months ago in Deviant Events More Like This

Is college the best thing for you?I don't know how many people out there know this, but I never finished college. I attended for roughly 3 years, but it eventually got too expensive for what I was getting out of it. So, I dropped out.Is college the best thing for you?1 year ago in Personal More Like This
At the time, I was slightly ashamed, but it turned out to be for the best. There's a bit of a stigma attached to those who don't follow through on their education, but in the art world, a degree itself often isn't worth the paper it's printed on. In my relatively short career, I've never once been asked if I attended college or even if I have a degree, and I'm not the only one who'll tell you that. Your portfolio and experience are what speaks for you. You can finish art school, but if your portfolio is no good, the jobs won’t come.
Today, because I chose this route, I’m debt free and I've worked for companies like Lionsgate, Warner Bros. and the Moving Picture Company, opportunities I might not have had if I stayed in school. Now, I'm not saying don't pursue a college e

The Matter of the MassesI've been painting for a few years now, but I feel like I'm only beginning to grasp the importance of this concept. I'll quote Robert Henri (1865-1929) from his book, The Art Spirit, which is packed full of such profound wisdom. The Matter of the Masses1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Robert Henri stresses this point:
"Insist on the beauty of form and color to be obtained from the composition of the largest masses, the four or five large masses which cover your canvas. Let these above all things have fine shapes, have fine colors. Let them be as meaningful of your subject as they possibly can be. It is wonderful how much real finish can be obtained through them, how much of gesture and modeling can be obtained through their contours, what satisfactions can be obtained from the fine measures in area, color and value. Most students and most painters in fact rush over this; they are in a hurry to get on to other matters, minor matters."
"The beauty of the larger mass is primary

Design a Zombie CompetitionWe are working on a new project, one that is in full swing as we speak. We are creating a series of toys, well, models to be more precise. ZOMBIES! We have a set of 5 being sculpted as we speak. But we are creating 5 more, 5 designed by you. You'll be accredited for your work on the base of the model, as well as on the models' box. It's a very good way of getting something great on your portfolio and you'll get your design fully cast and sent to you to go with your portfolio.Design a Zombie Competition1 year ago in Personal More Like This
OKAY – So what's the deal, what do we want?
The image attached are the proportions we want, it's not quite CHIBBI proportions – as an example, look up the artwork for "Super puzzle Fighter" – many Street Fighter enthusiasts will know where we are going with this. Okay, so those are the proportions we want – what about the rest?
Imagine the most twisted zombie you can think of and that's what we want, but in a semi-cute fashion. Recently, in the latest episode i
Job Posting: Looking for Tutorial Authors!Heyo everyone,Job Posting: Looking for Tutorial Authors!1 year ago in Personal More Like This
For the first time on Deviantart, we are out to find some concept/digital artists that want to produce tutorials/timelapses for the site! Please keep in mind that we are looking for artists that have some industry experience or have a great sense of teaching. (not all great artists make for great teachers) I am going to be swamped come January when my character workshop begins and need some tutorials in queue that I can publish during that time. There is no preference on software (photoshop, Krita, Gimp, Mypaint, Coralpainter, etc) Just as long as the process could be done in any of them without software specific methods.
What we are looking for:
Anywhere from 5 to 30 minute tutorials covering a wide variety of topics from environments, characters, vehicles, weapons, whatever it may be, just so long as it's dealing with concept art and teaching techniques used in the digital art world! We pay per tutorial, so if you did a three part series, you wo

The internet is full of it: People with strong opinions. Usually about 'how to do things' and 'how to absolutely not do things'.
Ask any given person this question: What is good art?
They will all give you a different answer and some of those answers are waaaay to specific for their own good.
Meaning they have a very specific view on what is good and see other work that does not meet up those qualifications as: bad, fake or cheating.
It is natural to have a preference toward certain topics or techniques when making art, but it's wrong to push those ideas upon others as a set of rules. (kinda like forcing someone into a religion)
Art should be a free medium for people to express themselves, even if this means their work goes against your standards or deems unpleasant for your taste.
(Child pornography, animal cruelty etc not included, there are limits to

Legends-Of-Skyrim is hosting its first contest to celebrate the opening of the group!
The aim of the contest is to write a piece of literature from the point of view of an evil character related to one of Skyrims main quest-lines. A few examples of acceptable characters are: Mercer Frey, Ancano, Alduin, General Tullius/ Ulfric Stormcloak etc.
The evil character can be portrayed in any way you like. Will your piece offer redemption to the character, or were they intending to be evil? Were they working for the greater good but wrongly accused, or maybe they genuinely believed that their evil actions benefited everyone? Your entry can also throw the evil NPC into any situation you want, as long as it is lore friendly, and it can include other NPC's that the evil character would have encountered.
To enter, simply tell us you want to join in this journals comments and fol

While You're YoungLearn art while you're young, trust me. I mean while you're still in school, preferably grade school. It's just easier to learn without all the pressures of an adult life; having to pay the bills puts you in a tough position. Will you pick up a part-time job? It'll cut time out of your practice, probably more than you think. Maybe if you copy somebody else's style then you can get more work. Just take lots of little jobs, it's like getting paid to practice, right? Wrong, trust me, commissions are no substitute for REAL study, especially when you're getting paid $2.00/hr and you've got thirty more to finish this week. While You're Young1 year ago in Personal More Like This
I'm not saying it's ever "too late" to pick up a pencil and learn to draw like the pros, but there's just no opportunity quite like doodling while your teacher drones on in the background, providing you with the perfect white noise and the excuse of boredom to practice. It's the perfect head space, like meditation. So learn while you're young, without all of the distractio
