The fire is now being reported as 92% contained there are still pockets of smoldering trees well away from the containment lines. The over 8000 fire personnel has been reduced to 3400 - still a lot of people power but far less than at the height The structures lost is up to 80 but last I read only 10 or so of those are homes. The acreage burned has topped 97,000 (compare that to Lake Tahoe at 120,000 acres). Mopping up and plans for re-forestation and flood control will continue.
I also want to say a heartfelt THANK YOU to everyone out in dA-land for helping me to reach an unexpected milestone of over 100,000 page views
On Saturday September 13, 2014 a small fire was intentionally set in the pine forested Sierra Nevada mountains near the small town of Pollock Pines CA. The fire, on the first day was a measly

I've not posted any journal for like a year. Sorry for being lazy. In the past year, I've been traveling a lot (that is another reason why I did not have time update a journal haha). Briefly, I have been to PATAGONIA!!! and also some other cool places within the US. I also have a big trip coming in two weeks. Guess what.... I'm going to ICELAND for 11 days. Yeah I hope I can get some more days off but this is it. Also I have put some effort to chase Northern Lights because 2012-2014 supposes to be 11-year solar maximum. I went to Alaska twice trying to catch some. Unexpectedly, I got another shot from Glacier National Park while I headed out for a night hike. Northern Lights is one of my propose of Iceland trip as well. Probably I might grab a chance to go to Fairbanks next year if there are some promising solar activities.
Another important update for South Californian locals: I joined Jeff Lewis, a great landscape photographer, an owner of LandEscapePhotograph

It's been a long summer that has been way too short. Work tends to quickly consume my time with excruciating slowness. I do apologize for my not being around a lot except for some faving and running. It's all I can manage to do here at this time. I've purposefully kept my submissions on the sparse side because of that fact. I don't feel right having a couple hundred deviation stacks waiting for comments, faving or deletion and submitting a bunch of my own. 'Blue Storm' will probably be my last for quite some time I'm afraid. I haven't done a lot of shooting and work is getting kind of out of hand and there's no let up in sight.
I'll still be around doing my favNinja thing, spouting comments here and there when I can and maybe posting a journal or two to feature your works
February 3, 2014 featuresI've been remiss in updating my journal. I haven't had a lot of extra time this past year, no desire and I've done a lot of faving and running and not a lot of commenting. I apologize for that but I think many folks are just as busy as I am and just as burnt out as I am.February 3, 2014 features1 year ago in Personal More Like This
I go through the motions of carrying my camera with me but I rarely use it. Winter is not an inspiring time for me--never has been. It's just the way it is. In hindsight, I would have been living near the equator somewhere so there really wasn't any change in seasons. Maybe then I'd stay on an even keel and not have those wild tilts like a sailboat in a hurricane. Every December, I swear, I'm going down for the last time. This year was rough.
Some friends of mine convinced me to invest in a daylight light therapy light. It's on & shining on me every second that I am home. That, I think, is the only thing that has kept me from swirling down the drain like the Ty-D-Bol Man flushed away. I publicly thank them both but

Bangkok Through My EyesI recently saw an excellent journal, (I don't exactly remember whose it was), It was about trying to convey the reality of a city, beyond its architecture and usual tourism images by words and images. It was a wonderful journal and inspired me to attempt the same. I have just come back from a small business trip to Bangkok. I have been to Bangkok quite a few times and I thought I could attempt something similar from my collection of images of Bangkok. I searched and thought and tried to materialize the idea. I found myself miserably lacking in being able to put together anything that could construe what Bangkok is like.Bangkok Through My Eyes2 months ago in Personal More Like This
For me a city, a place, a country is defined by its people and then by the environments, Its defined by human interaction, by scents and aromas, by sounds and tastes and so many intangibles that one could write a thousand books and one could show a million images, but they could not even begin to the experience of just a single day there or

Slum Dog MillionaireI had, on earlier occasions, noticed this growing slum in passing, but never really put much thought to it. Perchance, it was a cancelled meeting at a factory very nearby and the fact that I was carrying my Camera Kit that gave me the opportunity and the temptation to explore. I parked the car .. and roamed about the putrid, muddy, (I wouldnt even call it a) shanty town. The so called houses are just mud and stones slapped together.Slum Dog Millionaire2 years ago in Personal More Like This
This place is mostly inhabited by Pukhtoons who fled their homes and farms and villages, when the Taliban took over. They are mainly from what is now called KPK Province and the Swat Valley. They have been here for over a decade in squalor and poverty .. but with the pride of the Pukhtoons ..trying to eke out a honest existence. They used to farmers, land owners, merchants who lived a respectful and decent life. They don't get aid from the government because they don't fall into the IDP (Internally Displaced Person

Something I would like to share with you ...
♡ A Little Known Robin Williams Story:
“Years ago I learned a very cool thing about Robin Williams, and I couldn’t watch a movie of his afterward without thinking of it. I never actually booked Robin Williams for an event, but I came close enough that his office sent over his rider.
For those outside of the entertainment industry, a rider lists out an artist’s specific personal and technical needs for hosting them for an event- anything from bottled water and their green room to sound and lighting requirements. You can learn a lot about a person from their rider. This is where rock bands list their requirement for green M&Ms (which is actually a surprisingly smart thing to do).
This is also where a famous environmentalist requires a large gas-guzzling private jet to fly to the event city, but then requires an electric or hybrid car

Sharpening With PhotoshopIn a discussion with one of my good friends on DA Anders Stangl. A very talented Photographer. Please do pay his gallery a visit.Sharpening With Photoshop8 months ago in Personal More Like This
We were discussing "sharpening"I mentioned that I had an alternative technique for adjusting sharpness on using photoshop than the existing "sharpening" filters. I thought I would share it with him and in doing so other friends on DA.
But first before going into the tutorial I thought I would give a little explanation of sharpness.
When we talk of sharpness it is often thought to be a solution to a poorly focused or blurred image. But it is not, a poorly focused or blurred image will remain a poorly blurred Actually sharpness describes the clarity of detail in a photo, and can be a valuable creative tool for emphasizing texture. Proper photographic and post-processing technique can go a long way towards improving sharpness, although sharpness is ultimately limited by you

Tell us a bit about yourself, MyLifeThroughTheLens! How did you get into photography and why?
My name is Eddy , i was born and raised in Lima and a few years ago i moved to Boston. I got into photography about 2 years ago after a really bad breakup because i guess i really needed to feel good at something and since i always loved art i decided to give photography a shot and now i'm really glad i did it has helped me a lot.
Why are you on deviantART?
I am on deviantart because i feel that this is a great community of artists and i feel more comfortable to open myself to personal ideas or concepts here than in any other social network ..but when i'm not sharing my work i also enjoy browsing for art and it is usually from traditional artist like Pixiecold or Lora zombie.
What type of photography

I'm not talking about people who want to filter certain terms out of their searches, cause you can already do that by making use of the helpful information here :faq577:
I'm talking about people who actually believe that while using a massive, global art website which caters to artists who work in different mediums and different subject matters, artists all over the world of all ages and skill levels, they should a

Why rape jokes are disgusting.(Watchers: Rant inbound.)Why rape jokes are disgusting.2 years ago in Literature Features More Like This
I'm writing all this down in a Journal entry so I don't have to flip out and repeat myself every time some idiot makes a rape joke.
It says a lot when something like this is even necessary.
Trigger warnings: Rape (inc. -culture, -apology). If I have misrepresented anything in the following Journal, I apologise. If anyone has anything to add, feel free to comment.
"Rape isn't about uncontrollable sexual desire. You only have to listen in on a Call of Duty game to see that. When that kid crows, "I raped you!", he's not calling the other guy sexy; he's saying he defeated him, dominated him, humiliated him. That's what rape is about, and that should scare you."
"The rape joke is that you were eight.
The rape joke is that at the time,

I really hope you will all hear and LEARN from this:
2 really GOOD friends of mine were in some 'tangle' with each other.
The result being a Journal was sent out (too fast) denigrating my other friend.
I notice on d/a that often people are too quick to make accusations especially when it comes to 'stealing' art.
IF this happens to any of you, please talk to the 'offending' person first, don't BLOCK them so that they cannot even have a chance to reply.......this is pointless.
This has happened to me on a Group I ran and NOT to be able to
'justify' myself was frustrating in the extreme.
We have enough Wars and fights and trying to live......please think before you take action.
In this case it has more to do with 'hacking' than anything else.
FoxE9BEHOLD, A REAL IE9 THEME FOR FIREFOX: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/foxe9/FoxE93 years ago in Personal More Like This
I know there are a million things that are different between the two browsers but we are not aiming on adding IE9 features or completely rearranging stuff to make it look 100% IE9-ish. We don't have the time to bother with such things. Instead, it is a theme that hopefully satisfies peoples' strange desires to make their Firefox look similar to IE9.
