I stared down at my best friend as he lay silently in the cold, metal hospital bed. There were various monitors and IV drips hooked up to him and an oxygen mask covered his pale face. The room was completely still and silent but for the slow, regular beeping coming from his heart monitor. A brisk wind blew through the pen window showing the first signs of the cold winter approaching, still he did not stir.
He hadn't woken since the collision when a drunken truck driver had hit the small car we'd been using to return home from a mathletes competition. Me, the other passenger and the driver had gotten away from it with only minor injuries, I only had a few cuts and bruises and a broken arm, Dick had not been so lucky. The car had swerved to try and avoid the oncoming truck but this had only resulted in the drunk hitting the back of the car, on the side where Dick had been sitting. I had been in the middle seat beside him and everybody said that I'd been lucky not
Anniversary“Daddy!” A little voice screeched as tiny footsteps ran down the hall towards Dick. Dick looked up from where he was placing all of his “toys” for when he became Nightwing. Dick smiled and bent down, holding out his arms so Catherine could jump into them. He caught her and picked her up, spinning her around high above his head. He brought her back down to eye level and kissed her cheek, “What’s up baby girl?”
“I saw grandpa on T.V.!”
“Did you?” Dick faked a smile. He wasn’t surprised that she had seen Bruce on T.V. He was either making an appearance as Bruce Wayne, Gotham’s playboy, or they were reporting a Batman sighting.

Nightwing: The Animated Series Episode 1He had always lived in the knight's shadow. But, who could blame him? The very reason behind his being was that he was a shadow, which encompassed all and cast a shadow over everything below. But still, he wondered. His master used fear as his ultimate weapon, and appropriately, his symbol was a creature of the night; the very amplifier of fear, the substance of nightmares, the mask which hides the monsters that prowl through this sinful city. But, his student's symbol was one that summoned neither fear nor respect from his enemies or his allies. A helper at best, a source of cruel laughter at worst. No matter how much one tries to run, no matter how swift they think they are, they can never escape their shadow...Nightwing: The Animated Series Episode 13 years ago in General Fiction More Like This

"You do realize we've only been back for a few hours, right?" The ever annoying Artemis said as she grabbed an energy drink from the fridge. "Maybe you wouldn't be so bored if you actually got off your lazy butt and did some sparring like the rest of us."
I flip myself over so to face the archer. "Pshh, 'cause being chucked onto a floor that screams 'FAIL' at me, by a dude with super strength is so much more entertaining."
"It is for me," the girl laughed wickedly.

The chest he'd previously been resting his cheek on sunk in frustration. "I just don't get it we've made out in my room, your room, rooftops, trees... Hey! No violence!"
Robin grumbled, sapphire eyes rolling behind the tinted lenses, "It's not my fault your reflexes suck."
"My reflexes are grea-OW!"
"You were saying?"
Wally's nostrils flared as he exhaled heavily. "The point here-"
"Oh, so there is one?" Robin snorted. It was too easy to aggravate Wally, whose patience's ability to fizzle was just as quick as those feet of his. Could the younger kid be blamed? Not really, considering how cute that grumpy-face was.
"Yes," Wally answered confidently, "and it is that we've Frenched up pretty much anywhere. How's this any different?"

"Course it's looking to be married," The official grumbled. He switched to a businesslike tone. "Either of you been married before?" He asked, eying the woman with malcontent.
"No," Was the joint answer.
"Well, at least that'll cut out some time on the record searches."
"Record searches?" The woman frowned as she bit her bottom lip.
"Obviously we conduct searches on records of people who want to marry. Aside from certain essential rules, careful scrutiny is necessary for special cases. People are in such a rush nowadays, they don't even really know who they're marrying. Their future spouses don't tell them things, marrying untrustworthy people. Changes the relationship somewhat, you know, especially in these times.

"It's where they put older female inmates, Harley," replied Poison Ivy.
"I don't know why they don't send you here normally, Red. You're no spring chicken!" said Harley.
Ivy grimaced. She hated being reminded of the fact that she was old enough to be Harley's mother.
"The inmates here have mostly never escaped. They've been here so long that they've all grown rather harmless," she explained. "They're a sad lot."
The women in the recreation room were mostly middle-aged and for the most part a little overweight. It was hard to believe that the women here had once been supervillains who had tangled with Batman.

The flames haven't heated the room yet.
I try to remember Artemis's dream.
But all I can remember is wanting to drink her blood and eat her flesh.
What the fuck?
I shake my head.
I don't bother looking around the room.
I know what will be there.
Black shadows along the walls.
Hisses from bleak corners unseen by me.

Question of Ethics"Not too bad," Shayera conceded, shrugging her shoulders to get the feeling back into her hands. She was quicker than John and more able to rely on pure fighting skill. Even for a human he wasn't too bad and when he hit...well. Like she said before, it wasn't all that shabby. "Thanks," He sighed, cracking his knuckles This, he soon realized, was a mistake. The look in her eyes switched in an instant from grudging admiration to fierce, predatory excitement of a sort. He'd felt it from her far too often so he wasn't terrified by it. Yet it was one thing when she grinned like that at their enemies but quite another when she was directing it towards him.
He went hastily to correct the gap in his upper body defense but Shayera clearly hadn't survived all those years on Thanagar by being overly rigid in her form. She swept him off his feet with one kick and, before he even knew it

At first I thought he was weird when he was cracking jokes on a mission a year ago. As we spent more time together I realized I liked him. I couldn't stop thinking about him. I couldn't get his corny jokes, his sweet permanent smile, his everything out of my head. I thought it was a phase, that it was my hormones that was giving me gay thoughts about him. It had been enough of a roller coaster ride just dealing with the Thanagarian Invasion, her return, meeting their future son, and wrapping his mind around them being reincarnated from a time long forgotten. He was actually feeling a little bit of peace at the moment and too much introspection just might make him go a little unbalanced again. He didn't want that to happen again. That's what caused him to have problems with her and Mari in the first place.

I worry about her more than I should. I mean, it’s not like I have some sort of maternal instinct still inside of me, my kids left the nest a LONG time ago. But this is a different kind of concern. In which I worry what she’s thinking, how far she could go, if she could harm more than herself. And it’s not a pleasant feeling.
She sits alone in the darkened room, the straight-jacket binding her arms tightly around her waist. Only a single, hardened mattress keeps her company; the officers didn’t want to risk her trying... anything. It would make sense of course, they still need her for questioning about that Hugo Strange fellow, yet I still feel uncertain as to whether it’s crueller to keep her alive or not.
That man, as sick and as demented as that evil WHAM was, was her purpose in life. I think that everyone can admit that they were once head over heels for someone that little bit TOO much. It’s sad really, to see someone so beaut

It was one of those days when John was miserable and cranky. There was no other way to describe it. He was just plain old cranky.
So the first reason he was cranky because he hadn't had enough sleep.
No matter how much reassurance she gave him, John wouldn't stop fussing over Shayera every five seconds. No matter what she said he was still worried that she would get hurt somehow or that she could go into labor at any second. And worrying about her cost him sleep.
And then his first coffee of the day had burnt his tongue and it was still hurting. Every time he opened his mouth it stung.
He had previously hurt his right shoulder and arm on a mission the day before so both his shoulder and arm were very sore. The bandages made his arm itch and he felt sluggish still and it was almost midday.
He'd gotten chewed out during a monitor duty shift that wasn't even his, as he covered for Shayera, for being inattentive
