Here is a brief history of April Fool's pranks deviantART has played on it's members. Please note that information is still missing (mostly older years) - this is because some April Fool's pranks were never recorded or are lost in the millions of journals on the site.
2001 - "jark is Arrested"
jark is arrested in Disneyland for cutting in line and refusing to move to the back.
2004 - "British Takeover"
April Fool's Day 2004 marked the day the British took over deviantART. New rules were enforced on that day, including spelling "color", "colour" and saying "Cheers guv'nor" instead of "Thank You".

And all the men and women merely players: They have their exits and their entrances, And one man in his time plays many parts, his acts being seven ages. At first the infant, Mewling and puking in the nurse's arms.
And then the whining school boy, with his satchel And shining morning face, creeping like snail Unwillingly to school.
And then the lover, Sighing like furnace, with a woeful ballad Made to his mistress' eyebrow.

Fudge! Probably one of the most simplest things ever - Milk, Butter and Sugar - mixed to a soft 'fudge' like consistency and often flavoured with other weird and wonderful things. Fudge is popular in the UK especially, as a tourist treat. Those little tourist shops that proclaim home made ice cream also often sell home made fudge! It's also popular at fayres too. Here's an interesting trivia note...
"The Hot Fudge Sundae was supposedly created in 1906 at C.C. Browns, a new ice cream parlor on Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles."
Why you feature stolen work?!?!Lately there seem to have been a few myths flying around in particular with regards to how we as Community Volunteers, give Daily Deviations. Many people seem to think that we sit at our desks in dark little rooms and let out evil laughter whilst we purposefully feature stolen work. The dark rooms and laughter - well I can't say yes or no on that one! But I can promise you it's not our intent to give exposure to people who have stolen work. I recently featured a piece of work that turned out to be stolen. However I went into extensive conversations with the artist before I featured it, and with added metadata and dates, it's difficult to know where to draw the line. I've given people the benefit of the doubt before - and it's worked out nicely as their work has been legitimate. Below are some comments I have seen being thrown around the past few days - and hopefully an attempt to bust the myth. Why you feature stolen work?!?!2 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This

The world of crafting is fascinating and never ending. We have been crafting since the first human molded some mud into a pot, and a seemingly endless list of crafts has been created since. Some crafts are very well known, and you have probably dabbled a bit into them yourself... but some of them are a lot less known. I put some examples together, please enjoy them and leave a comment below letting us know how many of them you already knew if you know any unknown crafts, feel free to share them with us!
Extra credits if you already tried some of these!
Note: These are NOT totally obscure crafts that are only practiced in remote places of the world or that require specialized equipment, I chose crafts that should be easy enough to pick up but not a lot of people are doing.

New Username Symbols: Extended ThoughtsTwo weeks ago, we released two new products – deviant and art Mentions and new username symbols. Gratefully, and as we'd hoped, many deviants are embracing these changes in exactly the ways we'd anticipated, and the ways we ourselves did over the past several months of testing. While some deviants embraced the changes, it's fair to say that others have felt surprise, curiosity, and maybe even shock. These feelings are totally normal, but for the large part, there's a hope present. A positive outlook. The first steps in a new era that makes the way for our goals in the future, and, at the same time, removes clutter and confusion that new deviants often experience.New Username Symbols: Extended Thoughts1 year ago in Personal More Like This
As with any change, there are a handful of deviants that don't understand why we made the choices we did

Are there places were street photography is impossible? Are there countries easier than others, or harder than others? How is it street shooting like in exotic places, or places you never visited, places that are completely different from what you are used to? I asked a few street photographers around the world to share with us their experiences.

Japan is a fascinating country with an unusual mix of the traditional and modern. It's a magical place filled with anime, cosplayers, samurai, sushi, and all the strangest things imaginable. Wrong! Well, not really, but this is just the cliché, outer covering. When newcomers just scratch the surface of this country, this cliché is all they find. But, in reality, Japan is a place like any other: full of human beings who have normal lives with all their little dr
How art tutoring should be nowadaysYes. Another one of my rants that starts with a personal experience. How art tutoring should be nowadays1 year ago in Deviant Events More Like This
It was a day like any other, and I was just surfing DeviantArt, browsing the many deviations in my inbox. While I did so, my eye wandered to something that was called an 'tutorial on manga anatomy'. As usual, I was curious about the content. And as the preview image was pretty small, I wanted to check this out. It seems like this girl, let's name her Abbey (it's not her real name, but I think calling her 'that girl' is so damn confusing) had made a tutorial on male manga anatomy. Nothing wrong with that, you'd say. But I've been following Abbey for a while already. I originally met her in the forums, asking for feedback on one of her fanart drawings. Mostly anatomy related stuff. I gave her some tips. We talked a bit. And I followed her soon after, as I thought her art looked pretty promising altogether.
Now, I didn't know Abbey in real life. But she was a beginning artist, nowhere towards a level

Artists beware! Thieves trying to steal passwordsEvery once in a while i get someone trying to hack into my facebook or deviantart. Lately someone sent me a link to a fake tumblr log in screen trying to steal my tumblr password. that person is obsidianwingsofmidnight.tumblr.comArtists beware! Thieves trying to steal passwords8 months ago in Deviant Events More Like This
Yes, i am making this public so that people know what kind of person obsidianwingsofmidnight is and be aware of messages from him/her.
this person claims they were hacked as well. That might or might not be true, either way i don't want to go hunting them down, just be careful of ANYONE sending you links, especially people you never talked to before.
A note for every deviant out there.
HOW TO PROTECT YOURSELF FROM PASSWORD THIEVES:
1. Start out by having a very strong password. Having passwords that have numbers and symbols (*!@#$%) is a great way to start, but a sure way of having a strong password is just having a very long one. I saw an article where it said that nothing beats a long password, So it's better to have a long passw

For today we have Mirz123! She creates fantasic stamps, sometimes fun and silly, but also often with an important and profound message, and always in her recognisable style. PE: Tolerance Towards Daily DeviationsIf you're like me, one of the first things you do every morning is turn on the computer to check the DDs for the day, if you make this a habit sooner or later you'll see something featured that you won't like at all, making you spill your morning coffee all over the screen.PE: Tolerance Towards Daily Deviations2 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
Oh the crime! That poor coffee going to waste.
Before you hit the Caps Lock button and begin an essay about the drop of quality of DDs, stop. Take a deep breath, maybe walk around for a bit to cool down, and think about what you're going to do. To begin with, complaining about the DD leaving a comment is extremely disrespectful for the artist because most of the time, they didn't even ask to be featured. Instead, take a moment to consider why was it picked, DDs are chosen for far more than just being visually attractive, as the article Daily Deviations - The Myth and the Legend explained; we often look f
Communities rely on Pillars made of HeartCommunities of all kinds are held up by pillars made of heart. Typically embodied by people who let the weight of their community rest on their shoulders, willing to let life be life. Sometimes it hurts, and sometimes it's comfortable. Regardless, the result is a halo that surrounds all participants in a community. The healing light of being mothered, fathered or cared for.Communities rely on Pillars made of Heart9 months ago in Personal More Like This
These are very special people who take this role in your community. Maybe this person is you. In which case, please be you today, and every day. Because you are very important.
For the rest of us, we all know who the pillars are that hold up the communities that we care about. We all know the value of what they do, especially when we stop to think about it.
There is nothing in life that I have ever found a deeper admiration for than people who take on this role. Pillars of Community. When a human being digs their heels in, claims territory and begins to show Love towards a group of people, they begin to embody
