04/08/06 14.46 World Superbike Championship Brands Hatch Kent UK

Noriyuki Haga around the back section of the Brands Circuit and as he rolls off the throttle his Yamaha R1 spits fuel into the pipes which then ignites. Quite dramatic and predicable which is great news for snappers.

Dean Ellison on board his Slingshot Racing Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade during a practice lap for the British Superbike Championship 2006.

Thanks as ever to Jay and Tasha at Londonbikers.com for the press arrangements for access to these events, a pass to get close enough for a mere 200mm lens, and the motivation to get my ass out there. Forever in your debt guys.

Minor contrast adjustment and burning of left corner to balance the frame. Edge sharpening applied to emphasis depth.

Well yesterday DA was running like a three legged dog so only two of my intended 4 were uploaded before I lost my rag and resorted to swearing and drinking red wine.

This is one of the most beautiful shots I think I've ever taken and I don't mind saying it.

Most of the wonder is down to the weather and the land. All I did is handle the camera and a wee bit of colour saturation in Lightroom.

Taken at Oulton Park during the British Superbike Championship this year. It was a mostly wet event which is hardly a surprise with it being held in the British summer.

Motorsport fans will note the wet tyres on Scott Smart's Hawk Kawasaki ZX-10R, these tyres are said to give as much grip in the wet as normal road tyres give us in the dry. Which is a lot.

For the racers, it's more about being smooth and avoiding the painted kerbs and lines on track.

Scott is clearly doing his best to dry out the track for his next lap.

Taken at the World Superbikes Race at Silverstone a fortnight ago. It was horribly wet on race day and the organisers cancelled the last half of the day for safety reasons.

Thanks as usual to londonbikers.com for the media pass that allows me to take otherwise impossible shots of these incredibly skilled riders.

Ollie Bridewell, 21 yrs, died on circuit as a result of injuries suffered in a fall on Friday 20th July 2007 at Mallory Park during a wet practice session for the Bennetts British Superbike round that weekend.

Ollie was perhaps the nicest guy in the paddock and frankly it nearly made me go home and forget the idea of trying to shoot these events.

I can't offer much support for those more closely affected by this tragedy, but photos can last forever and I hope the memories of this charming, witty, intelligent, gentle and respectful young man last forever too.

Go with God Ollie, pegs down mate.

Taken on Saturday evening just gone on the South Downs near the village of Elsted.

The sun was setting behind this fluffy bush - there were loads of them in that area and I fancied a shot of them. So both things came together.

Nicky Hayden on his Repsol Honda 800cc MotoGP bike shot this year during the British round at Donington Park.

Turns out it was to be his last year with Honda, he won the championship with them in 2006 but wasn't able to recreate that form until near the end of this year. Next year he's on the wild Ducati which should suit his lairy style to a 'T'.

Thanks as ever to Londonbikers.com for the press pass and opportunity to use it.
