Sucker PunchedThis is a LONG one so settle in!Sucker Punched1 year ago in Personal More Like This
I’ve been re-watching Sucker Punch a lot lately and have been humorously admiring how misunderstood it is. It’s almost comical how a movie that comes right out and says “I am about the negative connotations surrounding the constant sexual abuse and objectification that women endure,” gets reviewed and dismissed as “just another pandering male geek fantasy of objectified sexualized women.”
I could write a book on the various subtle metaphors and messages Sucker Punch visualizes, but I don’t wanna bore you all. But to demonstrate what I mean let’s just dissect a small piece of it.
Before we begin we need to understand two things. First, Director Zach Snyder made the film with the express intent of it being a feminist critique on geek culture. If you don’t believe me, hear it from his own words: http://www.filmschoolrejects.com/features/interview-zack-snyder-on-the-sexuality-and-world

Win a picture of your characters :)READ BEFORE YOU ASK ANYTHINGWin a picture of your characters :)2 months ago in Personal More Like This
Well, first a little explanation : lately, I want to draw, sadly I'm really, really, really tired. Tiredness simply kill my imagination, you have no idea. This is why I spend a lot of my free time to read and play video games, because this is the only thing I'm good at (when I'm not taking a nap...).
So, I had this idea : would you like to give me subjects to draw, like your original characters ? ^_^
- Be one of my watcher
- post references on this journal about your favourite original character (please no characters from anime/games... I want YOUR character)
- A female character please ... !
... and wait
I won't tell you if I draw your character or not.
I also won't tell you if it will be a black and white picture or a watercolor~
I don't have a minimum or a maximum of artworks I want to draw, it will depends on my motivation ^^
I really just want to become a better artist, if

This is a thing people often wonder and think it's a complicated to find out, but it is actually pretty simple. It's a different question you need to ask yourself based on different topics.
As for: Fuck talent! You'll find it if you scroll down
Topic 1: Am I on the right track to becoming a better artist?
Does your work from today, look closer to your initial goal than your work from last week? (this needs to be both in skill and idea.)
Good skills: Honing your technique, training you muscle memory, being more knowledgeable about your tools and art rules. With art rules I mean: Perspective, form, light, texture, composition.
Good ideas: Storytelling, characteristics, charm, emotion and design. Not just making things look polished but also convey something more, something that brings it to life and speaks to pe

Remember your first smile at Pinkie's antics?
Your first cheer as Rainbow completed a stunt?
Your first squee at Fluttershy's cuteness?
Your awe at the beauty Rarity's dresses?
Your belly rumbling at the sight of Applejack's baked treats?
Do you remember seeing Twilight come to Ponyville for the first time?
She was a sight to see.
Her shock at Pinkie's antics,
her grumbling about Rainbow's stunts,
her eye-rolling at Fluttershy's cuteness,
her disgust at the beauty of Rarity's dresses,
her fleeing at the sight of Applejack's baked treats.
But she has changed so much since then.
Nightmare Moon brought her
and the six together.
Trixie's showy magic got her
to defend her friends.
Zebra Zecora taught her
to not judge by one's looks.
Discord's nasty tricks showed her
that friendship must be kept.
Chrysalis' dirty masquerade revealed to her
to have faith in oneself.
And we have stood by her these whole three seasons,

Deviations seen listed have been reported once before but have not been removed and have been filed as 'invalid' or 'needs more information' despite them being submitted into groups centered around little girls.
*Every single deviation you see here for UnderAge Erotica has been submitted into at least one Loli Group. For those of you who don't know what a loli is:
Lolicon, also romanized as rorikon, is a Japanese portmanteau of the phrase "Lolita complex". In Japan, the term describes an attraction to underage girls, or an individual with such an attraction. Outside Japan, the term is less common and most often refers to a genre of manga and anime wherein childlike female characters are depicted in an erotic manner.*

It's hard to imagine that with what we have today, publishers and artists were using these same types of devices as much as 40 years ago to set type, scan images, or even draw pictures.
So if you were an artist in the late 1970's, what would it have been like?
Well, click here (or above) to watch a video to get a bit of an idea.
If that's anything to go by, straight-up drawing was still a little out of reach. But you could scan drawings, save them, view them on a screen, scale them,

Questioned by the Hong Kong PoliceSo where was I? Oh yes I was gonna talk about my experiences with the Hong Kong police, so here goes. OK this is the problem, whenever I visit Hong Kong I always have the fear of being questioned by the police, well not exactly fear because I've got nothing to hide, but whenever I am alone walking on the street and a policeman on patrol sees me, they would ALWAYS 100% stop and ask for my ID. For those ain't familiar with how things work in Hong Kong is that if they see a teenager (Especially male) on the street not in their school uniform during school time or with dyed hair or pretty much just 'gangster' or suspicious looking, they have the right to stop you in the middle of nowhere and question you. Now I match every bit of suspicion possible, what they are trying to check is if there's any sort of crime around the area so they can narrow down the suspects, or to check whether you are legal to be in Hong Kong, or whether you've got drugs on you. Anyway when I was in Hong Kong a monthQuestioned by the Hong Kong Police3 years ago in Personal More Like This

1.GOTA BE A FAN BEFORE DOING FAN ART FOR SOMETHING
Yup, I have not seen One Piece or Bleach so I will not do fan art for them, Im sure they are great anime as people has told me, but I just haven't gotten around to watch it thats all. So yes for me, I gota be a fan before doing fan art for something. Otherwise it kinda takes away wat the true meaning of what fan art is right? But yes I do know some people who draws fan art of whats popular rather than what they like, I remember one time I was walking in the artist alley and saw an artist who did an artwork of a fandom that I like, so I spoke to them about the series and realised the person has not played the game or know anything about it, but just drew it because
Premium Content and how I feel about making moneyHalloPremium Content and how I feel about making money2 years ago in Personal More Like This
There's a new feature called premium content that allows users to make file downloads available for a charge. This seems to be something with a vast range of different possibilities that range from quite nice to to quite lame. Of course we are all always against commercialization and sell-outs and everything and don't want things to change but there are some interesting options here.
Obviously everyone is going to know whether or not this is something he or she could use and how much sense it's going to make for what you do specifically but there's two points I want to adress.
I always thought it was lame when people sell stuff like brushes or psd files. This is probably just my personal opinion and many will certainly disagree for valid reasons, but I think, if you make some brushes, and you ask money for something as tiny as that, you are lame. Sorry. Actually, the point here is not that it will kill someone to pay like one buck for something tiny, it's just that it change
Misunderstanding of BDSM SubcultureBDSM.Misunderstanding of BDSM Subculture3 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Bondage/Discipline. Dominant/Submissive. Sadomasochism. BD DS SM. BDSM. It's a global phenomenom that's legal--as long as it's consensual--in the majority of countries. 5-25% of America alone is either part of the subculture or enjoys it. There are songs--Rihanna's "S&M," Lady Gaga's "Teeth"--dedicated to it. So, why do so many people fear it or are disgusted by it? Why is what people do in their bedrooms so controversial that it requires fully-clothed people on deviantart to put a "mature content" stamp on their work?
Here are some of the stories I've heard:
They have serious mental problems stemming from trauma in the past that leads them to enjoy such "torture."
The dominant--seme--positions are ALWAYS sadistic, and it's how they get rid of their feelings.
The submissive, or uke, positions have something neurologically wrong with them to make them enjoy pain.
Sadomasochism is a form of domestic abuse (from Vogue magazine

This is a picture of me when I was playing the N64 back in the day. So why do I wanna talk about the 64 out of all the consoles? Well mostly because I have been trashing Nintendo so much lately about their decisions in the gaming industry that I thought I should talk about something more positive about Nintendo when they were at their prime. ALSO because I have so many good memories with this console! Without further ado, THIS is how it all began.. it started with my dad coming home from work one day and showing me a newspaper article with a competition on it, it was sponsored by Toyota and i
Critical Assessment and Aftermath of Art SchoolCritical Assessment and Aftermath of Art School2 years ago in Personal More Like This
This is an updated account on how things are going years after having left art school, the effects it's had on me, and my personal thoughts on attending. My views here aren't wholly different than the few rants I've had on the subject in the past, but it's one I believe I have to continue talking about to assist others in making the right decisions for themselves and their future path. (I should also mention that this is the viewpoint of an american in America.)
It's become increasingly clear to me over the last year that out of my 25 years on this Earth, there's only one decision I ever truly regret: and that was going to art school. Now, there's a good chance that I may not be saying this had I attended a different school, but there's no way to ever know, so what I'm really saying is "I regret going to the school I chose, not school in general." I feel as though I was let down by my school. I held up my end of the bargain (some $80~$90

If you don't accept criticism, you won't improveThis statement is, to be blunt, incredibly stupid. I see it repeated around DevianART and, as bad as it is hearing it from the general public, I have to laugh uproarously when I see it coming from an artist. I usually try to be more diplomatic, but sometimes my inner Snape just can't be contained. If you don't accept criticism, you won't improve3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Here is the reality of the situation. A person who is building a set of skills can improve without feedback of any kind. Through trial and error, a human being can identify their own mistakes and, with honest work, rectify those mistakes. To say that this is not possible is so counter to reality as to be absurd. I could give thousands of examples but I'll just say this: if it were not for an individual's ability to invent skills from within themselves we would have absolutely no skills to pass on to other people.
Is this a good reason to reject any kind of negative criticism or criticism in general? Does this mean that criticism is useless? Absolutely not. This
