Is college the best thing for you?I don't know how many people out there know this, but I never finished college. I attended for roughly 3 years, but it eventually got too expensive for what I was getting out of it. So, I dropped out.Is college the best thing for you?1 year ago in Personal More Like This
At the time, I was slightly ashamed, but it turned out to be for the best. There's a bit of a stigma attached to those who don't follow through on their education, but in the art world, a degree itself often isn't worth the paper it's printed on. In my relatively short career, I've never once been asked if I attended college or even if I have a degree, and I'm not the only one who'll tell you that. Your portfolio and experience are what speaks for you. You can finish art school, but if your portfolio is no good, the jobs won’t come.
Today, because I chose this route, I’m debt free and I've worked for companies like Lionsgate, Warner Bros. and the Moving Picture Company, opportunities I might not have had if I stayed in school. Now, I'm not saying don't pursue a college e

"Do something you love, and you'll never work a day in your life."
Today someone posted a comment reply on a facebook post of mine saying the above, as a motivational one-liner. I've heard it tons, and its a nice sentiment -- but this time it resonated, I realized I disagree strongly with what it is saying - and that it is the wrong kind of statement to give an aspiring artist. (I know it was meant well, so much love to the commenter of course!)
(Random daily painting of mine, because yay pretty things to look at!)
I've got a tiny bit of experience now, and this is what I think is more true: If you're a freelance artist, a painter of any sort -- and you want to be a successfu

OBJECTIVE: CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT AND STORY BUILDING
I began working pretty heavily on LMS during the first quarter of 2009. I had now a handful of characters, a rough idea of the story, and a general scope of what I wanted the book to be. To get started, I felt every book should have a theme. Movies do, right?
Spider-Man: Great powers, great responsibility.
Batman: Be more than just a man, a symbol, and be remembered a legend.
Star Wars: The myth of a heroes destiny, and the truth that allows him to be set free.
Who was Gabriel? What type of character or archetype was he? What were his rises and

Is Reference Bad?I feel like I've addressed this before at some point, in some other journal, but I find myself either discussing this with people a lot, or coming across people who on their work proudly claim to have "used no reference."Is Reference Bad?3 years ago in Personal More Like This
The biggest problem, and misconception, regarding references is that people feel like it's cheating or that it somehow cheapens their work. While I can understand the sense of accomplishment coming from using no reference to finish a painting or drawing, people who consistently do it are only hurting themselves in the long run. So in short, no, reference isn't bad.
Artists have been using reference since the days of the old masters. They would reference life, whether it be landscapes, objects on a table, or models standing in a studio. They would even reference their own sketches or other people's work in order create convincing paintings.
For some reason, a lot of people today seem to think that in order to be a good artist, they have to be able to do things without

orld War I (1914-1918) was a human catastrophe
that devastated Western civilization and mocked the hope inherent in “modernism”. The sheer volume of the war’s slaughter was beyond belief. The horror of it all destroyed the trust in science, medicine and technology as the golden gateway to a harmonious and peaceful future for humanity. All that was thought to be good had been twisted to the evil purpose of a global war. A global sense of hopefulness was replaced with a global sense of fear and loathing.

THE NEXT THREE YEARS OF MY LIFE
I had received a job offer at Microsoft. I guess this could have been one of my first 'big time' jobs, so I was a little ecstatic. It felt like a slow build to get to this point, after numerous indie games and under the table freelance jobs, but finally it had come.
I was working with my now best friend and business partner, Stephan, a suave German who I had met only a year or so prior. He had brought me into the fray, working with several other individuals who will, well, simply be known as individuals for privacy sake.
But yes, finally, I could put a professional company I

My Two cents on Portfolio ReviewsYou know, I see quite a bit of portfolio on a regular basis, and even more so when I go to comic con and CTN.My Two cents on Portfolio Reviews2 years ago in Personal More Like This
This time around was the same thing, I saw quite a few portfolios. Some good ones and some that miss the mark.
There were a few in particular that caught my eye.. a few extremely good ones, and a few that just didn't work, and I wanted to try and share my opinions about portfolios in general.
This is just my point of view, based on MY experience and definitely not a definitely law, rule, or "must do". Just what I noticed in many student's and young professional's portfolios.
The first thing that strikes me is how similar portfolios can be from one student to another..I can almost always tell when one student is from Art Center, San Jose State, Otis, Sheridan or any other major school. It's a good thing and a bad thing. Mainly a bad thing though
Just a few personal thoughts on portfolios since I just came back from comic con and saw a ton over there.
Your portfolio should be a r

A Pop Culture Interpretation of The Supernatural
Every culture around the world created gods and other mythical beings by mixing and matching fanged and taloned animal parts—e.g., enormous eagle heads on lions’ bodies—human beings have always seemed to need to believe there are powerful and usually quite vengeful supernatural beings lurking just beyond the candlelight.
Supernatural beings come to serve several purposes:
They kept people on the lighted path of truth and goodness, fearful of exploring beyond;
They were a reminder of the punishment we deser

Strawberry PastaWoke up early and I love making a really simple, yet delicious dish which is healthier than my bad habit of having cereals or pancakes. Plus, I am active person and I need an energetic "start of day".Strawberry Pasta10 months ago in Personal More Like This
When I say about italian pasta with strawberries and cream with sugar, most of my foreigner friends faces were expressing "yuck!" like it was a bad combination. It's rather popular in Poland.
I thought to share it
I love it not only for refreshing taste but it's very easy to make. I love tasting food and I'm sort of interested in culinaries but I hate cooking. I can't stand being kitchen. Also I'm lazy with making food but more in meaning... I don't like wasting time on it But that's how I am.
Simply it's pasta with crème fraîche (kind of sour cream)/or kefir/or natural yogurt, fresh chopped strawberries and with brown sugar.
Healthier alternative is brown rice instead of pasta.

Tips to improve our artwork♣ Hard working - constantly practice even when we don't want to draw.Tips to improve our artwork3 years ago in Personal More Like This
♣ Learning from others artists - no matter who is it, from beginner to master, we can always learn something from them.
♣ Learning from audience - carefully consider comments from other people, their opinions are valuable.
♣ Accept our own weak points - though it is so hurtful, look for them - try improving them instead.
♣ Always be a beginner - there are many things beyond than we have ever realized. Let's open our mind and learn new stuff.
♣ Don't waste your time on choosing tools - choose the appropriate materials - what we like the most is the perfect one.
♣ Only taking a break but don't give up - there are numerous obstacles that await for us in this path - confront and fight them!
♣ Basics are the most important part- then we can adapt to anything we want.
♣ Believe in ourselves - self-esteem needs to be added to ingredient in our work.
♣ Not only know

Things were pretty bumpy for me. I wasn't even able to play games or watch movies.
(except watching The Amazing World of Gumball S2 or Bob's Burgers. But those aren't even movies, lol)
This is because: for the past weeks, I became busy moving to my sis' apartment, in preparation for an office studio our boss recently rented for us employees to use.
I'm expecting things to be more bumpy and exciting, now that the work will not become online-limited anymore.
I can imagine it now: The ultra heat in Manila, the no-more-procrastination lifestyle, that part where I can't work with only my underwear, Oh god.
It'll be a huge change for me, but heck, it's gonna be awesome!
(right? right??? or is it gonna be like school all over again? lolol our boss is the teacher, our client is the principal, our colleagues are the classmates, and the janitor is the janitor)
So now that I'm living in a new place, we are yet to have a permanent internet connection for us to use.
And looking at the
5 Ways to Avoid Being DiminishedThere's a discussion brewing in comics about artists being more diminished as of late--that readers, reviewers, and publishers are focusing too much on writers rather than the artists who draw the book. I agree it's happening, but I'm not sure it's worth sounding an alarm over. I never felt diminished, but maybe I'm part of the exception. Maybe it's because I'm an artist and a writer.5 Ways to Avoid Being Diminished1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Either way, I do have a few thoughts on what artists can do to pull themselves out from under the rug.
1. DON'T DRAW LIKE A COG.
If you conform to a "house style", then you're at higher risk of being treated like an interchangeable cog in the comics machine. Yes, you're more likely to get consistent work, but you won't stand out as much. Therefor you'll be sought after less by big name writers, you're less likely to make a lasting impression on reviewers and readers, and you'll have a harder time getting raises (12 others draw like you and for less money).
I also suggests inking yourself if it helps. Penc
How to work as erotic artist in DAHi dear watchers and lovely people! How to work as erotic artist in DA10 months ago in Personal More Like This
As you know, RHEMORA was suspended for two weeks because of "resubmission of works that have been removed", so he'll be back soon, don't worry!
Due to the last journal that I shared with you, I noticed that there are at least another 10 erotic artists who were banned too. WHAT?! O.o
Yeah! So please be careful with your submissions and your comments and descriptions!
If you let me say something, I want so share some advices with you, so you have a little less troubles! (And trust me, I passed for this a lot of times, so I know what I'm talking about!) If you could spread the word to other erotic artists I'd appreciate it! <3
1. USE THE MATURE TAG IN YOUR MATURE SUBMISSIONS. DA is a safe place, yay! And there are children who can see your pic! So please please plase if you don't want troubles, this is the basic rule. If you have a naked woman or a naked guy, mark as mature.
2. DON'T SUBMIT TOO EXPLICIT WORKS! Even if you think that it's

“Have you heard of Patreon?”
“Why doesn’t your site have a Donate button?”
Put simply, I have this (evidently archaic) opinion that; if you want to make money, you have to do the work first. I don’t like the idea of taking money off people unless they get something for it immediately, not [insert timeframe here] down the line. It feels like a scam. That’s why I produce all those cheap digital comics: to finance my larger projects (and which is why I get pissed off when I find them being distributed freely online, because it slows everything down).
Even for large projects, like video-games that only have a niche audience and which big publishers won’t ever assist: I don’t see crowd funding as a particularly good way to go about getting production capital. I prefer the early release approach, such as that Mojang took with Minecraft.

Okay, it's been 4 years i haven't updated my commission info.
I thought it's time for a change. As you all know, ever since i've graduated from University, i haven't had any luck in getting to a gaming studios/company or industries, so technically, i'm not a full time artist working in a studio. At the moment, i've been doing a lot of freelance works from other clients (professional or not). So this is where i've been getting my money since.
And i NEED money. Through out the years, a lot of people have been telling me
that i've been dramatically improving, and it's time for me to enhance the pricing
of my commissions. And i've been thinking, if this is what i will do for a living then i'd have to change all this, professionally-wise.
